Steve Kyler(HoopsWorld) says it's time for the Magic to make a deal

Recommended Posts

quote:

Orlando: The Magic are simply average, yes they got out to a great start, but Magic coach Stan Van Gundy has warned all year that their record is far better than their play on the court. The Magic need a serious four spot player, and that's got to become a priority if Orlando wants to get out to the mediocre rut they are in. Word is the Magic have been getting nibbles on JJ Redick, and they have some ending contracts that are attractive to those seeking future cap space. Keyon Dooling is immensely popular in the trade market, but the Magic would be making a huge mistake trading off Stan Van Gundy's favorite player.

Carlos Arroyo and his $5 million ending deal is really the best chip for Orlando to cash. Carlos' value is very high right now, but he is not a long term member of the team. Carlos is going to be a free agent and if he and his agent are smart, they are going to go shopping for a big money situation where Carlos can increase his chances of starting. Carlos loves Orlando, and Orlando loves him, but at the end of the day business is business, and both the Magic and Carlos are not destined for each other long term. A package of Carlos Arroyo and JJ Redick would get you a lot of options in the trade market, that's more than enough to get Golden State talking Mickael Pietrus or Toronto talking Juan Dixon and Joey Graham. The real question becomes will Magic GM Otis pull the trigger on a deal, and is he ready to admit JJ Redick simply doesn't fit in Orlando? The Magic would be smart to cash out Carlos and JJ and get a front court player and a draft pick, it would be a shame to waste this year on a first round walk by Detroit or Boston.

Toronto: The Raptors are supposedly going to get TJ Ford back soon, that's a huge plus for the Raptors, but even Bryan Colangelo has admitted that he doesn't have enough minutes for Juan Dixon and Joey Graham, and neither are long term for the Raptors. Both players make tremendous sense for Orlando and the Magic have some things that might be of value to Toronto

For those of you that think Steve is a blogger at some small website here is his resume:

quote:

Steve Kyler is an active member of the Professional Basketball Writer's Association, and has covered the NBA for the past ten seasons. Steve serves as the Editor and Publisher of HOOPSWORLD and SWISH Magazine. You can hear Steve daily on more than 30 radio stations across the US as the voice of The Basketball News Report.

He is a avid fan of the Magic and attends all of our home games as well as having access to the players.

Then again, this is his opinion based on what he knows.

Nice post, junkie. Trade talk always gets me excited. I don't know about Graham/Dixon but I like the idea of trading for Vilanueva (if we can't get Haslem that is).

But as quoted:

The real question becomes will Magic GM Otis pull the trigger on a deal....

I would go after Charlie V. of those mentioned. He would be a good power forward, but please don't use JJ in the trade, cuz he will burn us four times a year and I cant take watching another Magic player lighting us up. Someone needs to wake up Stan to Dooling's glaring faults, there is a reason Pat Riley decided to not keep in Miami. Think about it.

Collison would be my first, second and third choice. A hustler/banger who would be a great fit with Dwight. Seattle could use a shooter like JJ and a veteran PG like Carlos. Throw Fran's rights if you have to.
