Ned Ryerson 94 Report post Posted November 29, 2007 It would be nice... Especially considering we are playing the best offense in the nation on Saturday. Also, here is a great AP article I found on ESPN about Kevin Smith. http://sports.espn.go.com/ncf/news/story?id=3132349 I saw him at the basketball game last night with 4 girls. Holla! Live or Die Magic 383 Report post Posted November 29, 2007 That was just his "take out" posse....you should see the size of his "stay in" posse. Wait, did I say posse? I meant..... Oh, and DLO...we have slowly been getting more and more votes in both the AP and Coaches poll the last couple of weeks. I think a victory over Tulsa will get us a strong push toward that 25th position, depending on who else wins/loses. Right now, we are like "31st" or so...if you go by vote total. If not this week, then a bowl win should seal the deal. I hope we are ranked after this week because then that would mean we could play the bowl game as a ranked team. If we don't get ranked till after the bowl then we wouldn't get a crack at actually playing as a ranked team...because come next season, we would drop again. I would love to go into the bowl game ranked, but I'm not getting my hopes up. It would really be something if we could finish the season in the top 25. Alot of teams would have just packed it in after the thrashing from USF but major props to the Knights for staying strong.

Live or Die Magic 383 Report post Posted December 3, 2007 Saturday's game was a truly awesome experience. I was able tailgate for about an hour or so, just enough time to have some jello shots, two beers, some vodka/lemonnade, and for the first and possibly last time, Cabo Wabo. I was so proud of the UCF players, all of them. I was equally proud of the UCF fans...that stadium was rocking the whole game! I taped the broadcast on ESPN HD and watched it later. The stadium shook so much that ESPN's cameras couldn't keep a still picture!

Live or Die Magic 383 Report post Posted December 3, 2007 ^^^^ That is definitely a possibility. I was pleased to see that UCF received the 2nd most votes of those in the "others receiving votes" category in both the AP and Coaches polls. I guess this means we are "unofficially" ranked 27th. We have a good shot of making the cut should we manage to beat Miss. State in the Liberty Bowl. The bummer for me is that we won't be able to play a game as a ranked team. Ned Ryerson 94 Report post Posted December 7, 2007 Interesting Blog by Kyle Hightower... quote: Been getting a lot of feedback on this morning's story on Kevin Smith not being up for major awards at tonight's college football award show at Disney. The following comes from reader Chris Bogey who did a little research of his own to dispell the argument that Arkansas' Darren McFadden played against that much better talent this season. Interesting stuff. Have a look: Kyle, I enjoyed your article this morning and since I heard that Kevin was not even his own conference's player of the year I was extremely irritated and did some research on the cold hard stats. I hate that it is automatically assumed that C-USA does not have the competition is ludicrous. To add to your article, McFadden has faced 6 teams in the bottom quartile of rushing defenses and also a 1-AA opponent. I compare him to Darrin McFadden, who I will even admit is probably the best player in college football. First look at the stats: Smith -- 2,448 yards, 5.9 yards per carry, 29 rushing TDs (30 total) McFadden -- 1,725 yards, 5.7 per carry, 15 rushing TDs (16 total) The average rushing defense ranking in D-1 of each McFaddens opponents is 75th. On top of that ranking of 75th he went against a 1-AA opponent, Chatanooga, that does not even qualify giving him less games in figuring out the total average. Here are some more facts: --McFadden faced 4 rush defenses ranked 100 or above and a 1-AA opponent. --He also missed the 100 yard mark 3 times all year (Auburn - 27th, FIU - 105th, and Miss St - 65th). --McFadden has two runs over 70 yards all year. --McFadden rushed for 200 yards one time, and 300 yards once. Now, lets look at Smith's body of work. The average rushing defense ranking in D-1 of each of Kevin Smith's opponents is 79th, one 4 spots higher than McFadden. UCF also did not face any 1-AA opponents this year. Here are some facts about Smith: --Smith faced 5 rushing defenses ranked 100 or above --Smith missed the 100 yard mark only ONE time all year (USF -19th) --Smith has 4 runs over 70 yards including 3 TD runs of over 80 yards, o by the way, an NCAA record. --Smith rushed for 200 yards 4 times and 300 yards once.
