Chad Ford "rips" Otis for mis-management of our salary cap! (ESPN Insider)

It will, however if there is a need to assess and make moves to enhance this roster it will be the recent moves that deteriorate our every chance to do so. This is pretty much it. This is what we have.

We gambled, just like we have been gambling every other year. One thing I have noticed is timing is everything. When SA drafted Duncan, they had Robinson coming off being injured. What pieces did they need to add to win? When PHX signed Nash, they were not good the year before and drafted Amare, they already had Marion. Both of those guys were on rookie deals that cost much less so they didn't have to break the bank. Shoot look at Toronto! Bosh now has Bargnani, they didn't have to overspend at all! We haven't been anywhere near as fortunate with timing and maybe that is what it all comes down to, luck. We draft Dwight, we get just good enough to get a high lottery pick but not bad enough to get a really good player. If we stunk the year after drafting Dwight maybe we have a team with Chris Paul and Dwight. If Grant came back at his full ability after we drafted Dwight, if Tracy stayed, if, if, if.

None of that happened, this is what we had to work with. Ford says Wallace was the way to go. Wallace said he wanted to stay in Cha, we would have had to overpay and that is assuming they wouldn't just match. He says no one else had the assets to get Rashard so we were bidding against ourselves. So Isiah and his magic trade machine weren't out there? Houston wasn't calling?

There are no sure things, if there were, no GM would ever be fired. Sure Otis probably could have done things better. He could have cleared cap better, he could have gotten something (ANYTHING!!) for Darko, Grant, and Diener, but this is what the choices were as of July 1, 2007.

ouch.

^^^ amen brother!! It's just could've, should've, would've... what if this what if that... that's what we got, that was the best he could do. Do I stand 100% behind his decision? No! Do I live with it and hope for the best? that's all I can do.

Chad Ford just collected pieces of what we've been saying for the last couple days and orchestrated it into an articulate point.

He brings up so many good points that it is difficult to disagree, even if you do...which I don't.

Hasn't Otis been saying for years that we need to be patient and allow the plan to develop? Wasn't Darko a key part of that plan? It seems like in one day, he scrapped the plan and went in another direction completely.

It's just difficult to understand how JRich and Darko will combine to make as much as Rashard and that options like that weren't explored or followed through upon.

This is the same arguement we have year after year being Magic fans. Just because we are stuck with it, doesn't mean we need to be satisfied with it. Especially this offseason of all offseasons. This was supposed to be the year we took a MAJOR step toward contention. Well, we took one step forward and took three step back. We have mortgaged our entire future on the shoulders of two players. It's not even a calculated risk. It's just a blantantly unnecessary risk.

We had loads of options and instead of exploring them all, or even preparing for the possibility of others, we opened door #1 and were completely content with the prize we won. Too bad when we were walking to the podium to claim our prize we found out about all the ancilary fees, taxes and penalties that would accompany the coveted prize.

It is tough to stomach Darko walking especially since they did talk so much about how he was a big part of what was going to happen but, was Darko a better option for GS than Brandon Wright? We also have to keep in mind that they needed to cut cost and we know that Wright would be cheaper than Darko.

The more I look at things people just don't value our assets as much as we do. Think about it, Seattle took a 2nd round pick in the sign and trade. They had no interest in Turk? Darko? Keyon? We were basically giving things away and they didn't want any, that has got to mean something.

People seem to forget, that Otis did not want to destroy the whole team just to keep Darko. We still have our young core intact, except Darko and we added the most coveted free agent on the market this year, that fits perfectly for what our game plan is.

Shooting guard position did not get any worse, all we lost was GHill, who was not a shooting guard anyway. JJ, Ariza, Dooling, and Bogans can combine to fill that spot.

PF spot we did lose Darko, but we got a better post up player in Rashard, and Gortat and Augie have a chance to prove they belong. We will need to pick up a rebounding tough guy for this position, but that can be had.

We still have our depth that we were told last year by these same reporters was one of the best benches in the NBA.

GHill wanted to go, and Darko's agent made it apparent he was only in it for the money, and did not care what would make the team better.

We also have one of the best 6th men in the NBA in Hedo, to use or trade to fill a need.

Overall so far, Otis has done what he set out to do: Get a scorer and keep the core intact(JJ, Ariza, Jameer, Howard, Hedo, Dooling, Arroyo and now Lewis, with veteran Battie as a back-up), not counting Augie, Gortat and rights to Franny, who may or may not come over anytime soon.

I am very happy where we are at so far, we still need to fill in a couple role players, but which team doesn't...

We are still a deep team and very versatile team, and ready to make a run in the Eastern conference for years to come.

Ford forgot to mention that in his little Darko and Wallace scenerio, the Magics salary cap would have been peeked for the next few years anyway, so why suggest something your whole article was against in the first place.

Ford is just upset Otis did not give him the scoop on anything....

A blind man could see what your saying, but these are reasonable issues to discuss at this time. AS Smack stated:

The point couldn't be more valid. We are in a position we're its either going to happen or its not. Unfortunately there are no ifs to that point. People don't have to accept it if they don't like it.

I think this gets to the root of the probelm that people have with this move. Just because Rashard was the biggest free agent this year, in a depleted free agent class, doesn't mean that he is the right piece. And it crtainly doesn't justify paying him that ridiculous contract.

Hypothetical Question, if Hedo Turkoglu was the biggest name in next year's free agent class, would you agree that he is worth 10-15 million just because he is the biggest name?

Here's another car lot analogy for you guys that love the way I kick it.

If you went to a Porsche dealership and all they had left on the lot was a Mitsubishi Eclipse, would you sign the papers to buy that car for $120,000.00?

What kind of backwards logic is this? We had an aging, beat up SF starting at the SG position last year and you want to claim that we didn't get any worse? Of course we didn't get any worse. That's beacuse it's impossible to get worse than rock bottom.

I think we walked around the corner and bought the Honda we've had our eye on, marginally better than the Mitsubishi, but it is used. I just hope its not a lemon.
