2016-2017 Trade Idea Thread

Tyus Jones. He was an absolute stud in high school, international ball and at Duke. Not quick or tall but poised. If we could get him from Minnesota, I think he could excel in Orlando, especially with the defenders we would have behind him.

I wouldn't mind but he isn't going address the scoring we so desperately need.

Maybe or maybe not. We have grown used to bad PG play with very little spacing. And Jones can score the ball plenty, too. For instance, consider this blurb from summer league:

"#1) Tyus Jones, 6'2, Point Guard, 20.1 years old, Timberwolves, Duke

EWA: 2.0

PER: 25.6

TS%: 59%

20.4 PTS, 3.8 REB, 6.8 AST, 1.4 STL, 13-32 3P, 48-57 FT%, 45.1 FG%

Tyus Jones, the second year pro and 24th overall pick out of Duke in 2015, put together an impressive performance in Vegas, earning him MVP honors. Jones took the keys to the Timberwolves offense when Kris Dunn went down with a concussion after two games, and led the team to the finals where they lost in overtime to the Chicago Bulls. Jones led the Las Vegas Summer League in assists at 6.8 per game, and finished third in points at 20.4 per game.

Jones has just average physical tools for a point guard, but he has elite ball handling and decision making skills. He looks very comfortable and patient playing out of ball screens, and keeps defenses off balance with hesitation and crossover dribbles, as well as his ability to knock down the pocket jumper. Jones has shown that he can get into the paint and make plays, but struggles finishing against length and often resorts to floaters and runners. He has some catch and shoot ability, having shot 37% on 106 attempts with Idaho and Minnesota last year. Jones hit some big shots in Las Vegas, and showed he could lead a team, but it will be interesting to see where he can find minutes next season behind Ricky Rubio, Zach Lavine, and Kris Dunn."

Plus, he's just a flat out winner. He's the one that crushed Wisconsin in the NCAA championship game. I hope he gets a shot somewhere.

Maybe we can get him along with Wiggins?

We know they're not getting a superstar. James Harden, Klay Thompson, etc., are all off the board. So the Magic have to try and find someone with a high level of usage and efficiency under the radar. Oh, and they have to do so in a way that works around the clustered roster they've assembled.

Some ideas:

Otto Porter, Washington Wizards: I know, this sounds crazy. But Porter is averaging 14.7 points per game on 53 percent from the field and 41 percent from deep, with eight rebounds per game. He's shown early signs of making the leap. The question of course is where to put him. If the Magic were to move Vucevic in a deal for Porter (either to the Wizards or in a three-way trade), they'd still have the problem of too many front court guys. You could move Serge Ibaka to center and play with Elfrid Payton, Fournier, Porter, Aaron Gordon and Ibaka, but the Magic have used Ibaka almost not at all at the five. Porter just represents an ability to get in on the ground floor on what will likely be a max player this year.

Lou Williams, Los Angeles Lakers: A veteran who can get buckets. The problem with most of these suggestions is that the easiest answers for available scorers are all two-guards, and it's hard to see getting a better scoring two-guard than Fournier. You can boost your bench with Williams, but does that significantly impact their situation?

Zach LaVine, Minnesota Timberwolves: Same deal here. You can't play LaVine and Fournier together, and while LaVine scores about a point more per game, it's basically a wash.

You left out the best paragraph!

"This, however, is probably the best option. Bismack Biyombo is eligible to be traded Dec. 15. Packaging Biyombo and Fournier to Portland for C.J. McCollum and Myers Leonard or Noah Vonleh (with filler on either side to make salaries match) accomplishes a lot for both sides. The Blazers lose McCollum, but Fournier maintains a high level of scoring, and they add the rim protector and rebounder they desperately need. The Magic get McCollum, who can be the franchise scoring star they're in search of. It makes a lot of sense for both sides, but it's very difficult to see Portland being willing to let go of McCollum without getting a star back and Orlando being willing to let go of Biyombo after signing him to be their rim protector."

That trade doesn't work. Matt forgot about the poison pill

This is what would have to happen (imagine Vucevic and Watson are actually biyombo)

http://www.espn.com/nba/tradeMachine?tradeId=gtldd92

If you add Fournier to that trade Portland would have to dump an additional 10 million on another team.

So basically you're in a scenario where Portland would be trading McCollum, Aminu, ed davis, Shabazz, and either harkless or Leonard for Fournier and Biyombo. We would be trading Fournier, biyombo, and meeks for mccollum just mccollum.

Furthermore, Denver and Philly have 15 players. They need to cut players to have open slots to accept the new players they're receiving. They won't do that for free. We'll need to pay with future draft picks to rent their cap space.

I actually disagree and think LaVine and Fournier could work.

Anytime you can play two guys together who both are better off ball and are below average defenders at their positions and whose current teams are better when they don't play you gotta do it. Huge recipe for success there.
