assuming a 101 million salary cap, here's what our summer situation is going to look like:

Biyombo: 17,000,000

Fournier: 17,000,000

Vucevic 12,250,000

Ross: 10,500,000

Augustin: 7,250,000

Gordon: 5,504,000

Hezonja: 4,078,320

assuming the 4th pick in the draft: 4,241,700

Payton: 3,332,340

the 25th pick: 1'263'500

a waived Watson: 1,000,000

a minimum salary slot: 815,615

a minimum salary slot: 815,615

That comes to 85,051,090

so, making no other changes, we'll have 15,948,910 in salary cap space.

a max contract for a 0-6 year guy is $25,250,000. We would need to cut 9,301,090 to reach this level.

a max contract for a 7-9 year guy is 30,300,000. We would need to cut 14,351,090 to reach this level.

a max contract for a 10+ year guy is 35,350,000. We would need to cut 19,401,090 to reach this level.

The teams that project to have more cap space than us are Boston, Brooklyn, Chicago, maybe Dallas but it requires weird Dirk situations, Miami (depending on renouncing a lot of their guys and if Bosh comes off the books which isn't a given), Minnesota, Philly.

Only Miami and Philly have max cap space right now. Other teams will try to get there. so instead of working the free agent market we need to see if we can leverage our cap room. Maybe we can get Crowder from boston so they can go after Hayward. Or Wilson chandler from Denver, or Courtney lee from the knicks.

I wonder if we try to trade that pick for a PG or something.

I don't know.

ultimately, if we can convince a max free agent to come here we'd just dump vucevic onto another team with a protected future first and stretch augustin. Or do the same thing with Fournier.

we could probably trade Fournier to Brooklyn with our second rounder. But we'd have to have the other free agent lined up first.

Probably depends on where the pick falls. 1-4 we probably keep it. Anything outside that I can see us trying to trade it. That will really get FA's attention if we get the right player.

I am hoping and expecting Fournier, augustine and either Biz or vuc to be traded befor free agency starts.

IDK. I like D. Smith with our # 5 pick. I am afraid that Phili will do another Payton move on us as they are again picking ahead of us.

I like who he might be able to be in the NBA. I just think Rob will present a plan to management when exit meetings take place that will suggest this because that's what they want.

The biggest variable is Devos. He wants to see us win before his time is up. That's the reason for a lot of these moves.

The Magic have the 29th-ranked offense in the NBA, they come in seventh in turnovers per 100 possessions and they’ve made fewer 3-pointers per 100 possessions than all but five teams. They’re 23rd in opponent effective field goal percentage, and they have the 23rd ranked defense in the league.

But other than that, we're just a tweak away from being a good team.

Nice write up.

Makes you wonder what could have been if we just planned to suck this year and not wasted a bunch of money on players that aren't good.

It's much easier to sign a big time free agent when not every team has max money like the past couple of seasons to offer. This could have been our summer to add a top 3 pick and elite free agent.

Instead we are most likely picking 5th and have no money.

But we do have DJ & Biz at least.

That would be a major letdown. Here's to hoping our new GM isn't that dumb.

Yup.

Though i don't think we pull a big free agent while tanking anyway. But we'll see if Brooklyn or Philly pull a big free agent. That'd be a good indication
