The Official 2015-2016 Trade Thread

Recommended Posts

Either Hennigan sees more in Oladipo than even I do or devos/martins won't sign off on the deal.

I said I wouldn't trade Oladipo unless it's for an upgrade who can play on both ends of the floor. Butler is that guy

It's the unnamed player. AG or Mario. Has to be.

Nope. Vucevic or Frye. You can listen for yourself

Also, sorry. That guy has a voice for newspapers.

These guys have a radio show, run the Orlando city soccer site broke it on Twitter. Then a lot of people said they were full of **** (myself included). Then they defended their statement pretty strongly explaining exactly what they were told by an extremely solid source. In the meantime, an Orlando magic site along with David Baumann came out and said these guys are legit and not in the business of rumor fabrication. The talks definitely happened.

Oh and kyler implied everyone involved in this rumor is an idiot.

Classic Kyler. If we could trade Dipo, Harris and our 1st for Butler and perhaps Gibson, we'd be a nasty team.

Which would make sense why we would say no. We'd have no starting center. They probably want to bring Taj off the bench, and have a Gasol/Vuc front court.

What would happened if we turned that deal down and Dipo is the player he is now for the rest of his career?

That isn't a big problem as long as the rest of the team improve. It also depends on what type of team we want to run. If we take the George Karl, Denver Nuggets starless approach, then look at their starting five in his last season in charge:

- Ty Lawson, Andre Iguodala, Danilo Gallinari, Kenneth Faried, Kosta Koufos

Main players off the bench:

- Wilson Chandler, Corey Brewer, Andre Miller, JaVale McGee

Then we are not looking at a team that was full of all star calibre players. In general you are looking at good players at each starting position, with a good rotation off the bench. They played in a system that worked for them and played to their strengths. Granted they didn't make it past the first round of the play offs, and during his entire time in Denver they only made it past the first round once when they lost in the conference finals with Melo. But after Melo was traded to the Knicks, the Nuggets still made the play offs in three straight seasons, played some good basketball, by using a starless approach. If we are looking to copy this style of approach until we manage to find, develop, or sign a star player, then Oladipo playing to his current level is not an issue because he would fit into a starless approach system because of his work ethic and ability.

That said, even if we take an approach where we build around a couple of star players, then having a player like Oladipo at his current level can still be a good thing. He is a reliable player at both ends of the court and does a solid all round job. If he is the third option on a team, that type of role should suit him. If we have a big free agency and manage to persuade a top free agent to sign with us, for example Kevin Durant, that would give us a star and go to scoring option. That would leave the likes of Oladipo and Vuc playing complimentary roles. Even if Oladipo heads to the bench to sixth man duties, that could work for the team because Fournier or Hezonja could slot into the SG position and add some fire power. So Oladipo is a good piece to work with going forwards, but he is also a good trade asset to have because players like him will always bring a good return.

Maybe. If the rumors are true, Atl is asking for the kitchen sink for Horford. I'm intrigued by Denvers young bigs.

The problem is would we fine a center as good as Vuc?

Let's say hypothetically we do deal Vooch and Oladipo to get Butler. Still gives us Tobias to shop around for a center. If we trade Vooch without getting a 5 back we're more than likely making another deal to get a 5

If we look at free agents for 2016:

- Andre Drummond, restricted

- Dwight Howard, player option

- Hassan Whiteside, unrestricted

- Al Jefferson, unrestricted

- Joakim Noah, unrestricted

- Zaza Pachulia, unrestricted

- Roy Hibbert, unrestricted

- Timofey Mozgov, unrestricted

Granted we may or may not have any interest in the players above, but there are options available in free agency that we could pursue. Some of the names above would need to sign here and bounce back to their previous form, but some of them are appealing options if we did trade Vuc. Though if we can keep hold of Vuc that would be a good scenario because if we could get away with a trade like Oladipo and Harris to get Jimmy Butler, then bring in Pau Gasol in free agency, that would leave us with Payton, Butler, Fournier, Gasol, and Vuc as our starting line up which looks pretty good to me.

I agree that Denver have some talented bigs. Jokic and Nurkic are talented options, though whether Denver want to trade them is debatable. But with the amount of first round picks Denver have in this year's draft, they might want to offload a big for the right price. Both seem to be similar type of centers to Vuc.

Starless teams rarely go to the ship. I know it's hard to get to that level and we should be just happy to be in the race when we get to that point but we have to at least make the attempt to get there.
