The OFFICIALish Training Camp Thread.

Let's not overreact guys, I didn't watch the game but O'Quinn had some nice games late last season

Yeah, he had a couple of good games. I'm just not sure if it's just him getting an opportunity on a bad team. I mean we were 4-31 in games he played more than 8 minutes. I don't think that statistic means a whole lot because you can use it to say the same thing about any of our guys who played at the end of the year.

I guess I just don't see where he fits. What his role is. He's not a good defender. He's a good not great rebounder. He can hit that 18 footer if left open.

His numbers stack up well with Ronny Turiaf but Kyle is worse defensively.

He really is what he is. If he sticks on the roster, fine. If another team is forced to cut a young player with potential (like Sacramento with ray mccallum if they don't want to carry 4 point guards) I'd prefer we cut o'quinn and go after a player with more potential.

I wouldn't be bummed if he left but he's a young "big" man who can hit a few jumpers. I wish he was more athletic though

He's just a big body. I wanted him to be good too, but he's not. I was hoping he'd be a scrappy Tony Battie type, but he really doesn't bring much to the table on either side of the ball...

I really didn't like the play of our starters last night. It really felt like our bench did all the work, save Harkless who did a good job on defense, and scored a few points. Dipo did well disrupting the opposing offense by cutting off passes, and did a decent job of passing the ball as well. Nicholson did well on offense, but I can't tell if he has improved defensively at all. Harris is still Harris, regardless of how you look at it, Harris had the best game of the night, and played like he deserved to be a starter tonight. Maxiell did well on the rebounding side of the ball and that is a good thing as that is what he was advertised to do in the first place, now if only O'quinn could play like he does then we would be in the clear.

The biggest disappointment to me last night was Affalo. Affalo is suppose to be the primary scoring option of this team in the starting line up and did absolutely nothing at all...in fact Dipo did better than him and that was Dipo's first game at the next level. Not only is that disappointing, but its down right disgraceful. I feel by the end of the season Dipo will have stole the starter gig either from Jameer or Affalo depending on who falls off in terms of performance or via injury this season. Which is fine...so far I see no reason why Dipo shouldn't be receiving more minutes than Affalo at this point.

It's preseason. These games mean nothing. There's nothing to show that this game will have any correlation to the play during the season. Many vets put in sub-optimal effort. Many fringe players have crazy stat lines to show they deserve a roster spot.

Afflalo will be fine and by January he'll be on OKC.

In my brief 5 minute stint in the chat room last night (I was hoping there might be activity in there and someone might have a link), someone was outraged that Harris wasn't starting and that O'Quinn could potentially be taking his spot. I was informed that "sometimes preseason lineups can reflect a coach's mindset".

I left the chatroom.

Afflalo to OKC makes so much sense I'm surprised it hasn't happened yet.

I like that trade even though I'm not sold on Lamb. He's still a young guy and getting rid of Afflalo and Baby in one trade is just too good.

Baby would also bring some toughness to that OKC team. He could work well close to Ibaka and he was championship teammates with Perkins.

Unrelated to our team but this also makes a lot of sense:

0gxx.png

- Mavs get a fringe all star for 2 washed up stars. Ellis-Gay-Dirk make a better case for a playoff run than what they have right now

- Nets get one more old star with some gas left in the tank (also a former Net and J-Kidd teammate)

- Raptors get rid of Gay for a bunch of expiring contracts

Remember guys, the goal is to lose and I know deep down in your soul, you want to win. lol.....I want to win too. This why I kind of threw O'Quinn under the bus early. We should care about looking decent...I guess.

I miss JJ Redick...

I certainly wasn't referring to you, if that's what you're saying. I was simply flabbergasted that someone would get worked up over a preseason lineup, which as ?4thewin correctly pointed out, means absolutely nothing.
