Offseason Thread pt V: The Sentinel Strikes Back (and makes us sad)

Recommended Posts

According to NBA executives familiar with the league’s strategies, once the lockout is in place, the owners will push for a hard salary cap of $45 million, the elimination of guaranteed contracts and ask that the players swallow a 33 percent salary cut.

The concessions made in recent weeks, including the “flex cap” of $62 million and a guarantee of $2 billion in annual player payroll, will be off the table.

If this seems certain to guarantee the loss of the entire 2011-12 season, it is because there are owners who think it is necessary for the long-term viability of the league.

Good news for Gilbert. He will get 18 months for his knee.

Hedo is coming back in a walker though.

Contrary to what the owners may think, if the entire season is lost (hell if half the season is lost), the NBA will be making a ginormous mistake. The league has finally surrounded itself with worldwide star players, the quality of games are high, interest is back. A year off and those new fans, young fans, fans who still had the thought process of players being greedy and overpaid will be gone.

Not to mention guys like Kobe will be another year older. You're taking away the last years of some star players.

This whole thing is just gross.

Jareth, you'd prefer to play the upcoming season and the league go bust in ten years then? Instead of the league being sustainable forever and stalling the upcoming season?

Silly.

he hates the back and forth.

and the owners pushing for a hard cap etc. will not ensure sustainability "forever" in the NBA. Especially not as long as the NBA continues to rely on paid athletes for its game.

I'm SERIOUSLY all-in for a The Replacements type scenario for the upcoming season.

El-Amin/Cleaves

Felipe Lopez/Denham Brown

Sticks/Freije

Hendrix/Alexander Johnson

Robert Swift/Jeff Pendergraph

Title team.
