Hawks forward Marvin Williams had outpatient back surgery today to take care of a bulging disc in his lower back. Williams should be able to return to basketball related activities in about six to eight weeks.

Here is the official team release:

forward Marvin Williams underwent a discectomy on his lower back earlier today to alleviate an isolated bulging disc. Dr. Hal Silcox of Peachtree Orthopedic Clinics performed the outpatient procedure. Williams walked out of the surgery center this afternoon and will begin rehabilitation immediately. He is expected to make a full recovery and return to full basketball activity in six-to-eight weeks.

Williams battled injuries at a couple of points during the season and wound up playing in 65 games while averaging 10.4 points and 4.8 rebounds per contest. Marvin is under contract with the Hawks for two more seasons and has a player option for the 2013-14 season.

If we made a trade to upgrade the three our four like this one, I'd be open to bringing back J-Rich. But if we make no moves then I don't want another long term deal going to a guy like him.

agreed completely. A roster of:

Arenas/Duhon

J-Rich

Williams OR Turk

Smith/Anderson

Dwight

is not a bad start. I'd have williams start ONLY because he is better defensively than Turk. And when Turk comes off the bench he can have all the BALL he wants.

Don't know if this has been posted

Smith hasn’t requested a trade, but has privately told league friends that the Boston Celtics, New Jersey Nets, Houston Rockets and Orlando Magic are his preferred destinations should the Hawks decide to move him.

Is it to early to add Josh Smith on Twitter and welcome him?

Anyone know how much Marvin makes? We could maybe do something like Jameer/Ryan for J-Smoove and the TPE for Marvin and that would save the Hawks money while getting them a replacement for Jamal Crawford.

Too much for the TPE.

he is owed $25 mil over 3 years, with the last being a player option. I don't think they will be able to resign Anderson (nor do they want to) so pointless for them to acquire him.

Josh Smith is on his way out of Atlanta and he reportedly wants to be traded to the Orlando Magic. If Smith and Howard were to team up, it would not only give the Magic the most athletic 4-5 duo in the NBA now, but in league history.

It seems like each player has been in the NBA forever, but they're both actually only 25 years old. Smith would be the type of talent the Magic could bring in to keep Howard in Orlando.

As long as Orlando can match up the contracts, which isn't as easy as it sounds; it shouldn't be that hard to pry Smith away from Atlanta. Quote from an NBA executive: "They would die to be rid of Joe Johnson’s contract or move Smith."
