Mike Conley gets a 5 year/$45 mil extension

$45M for Conley? There's a reason bad franchises stay bad: Owners like Heisley. Can't wait for Stern to explain why Grizz aren't profitable.

This is just hilarious... what an awful organization. First they throw Rudy Gay that contract (without actually waiting for a team to make an offer since he was Restricted), and now they most likely completely ruin their chances of keeping Mayo and Gasol, Marc Gasol being their best player.

Matt Moore's take on this(Hardwood Paroxysm and CBSSports):

This makes Lewis' contract look reasonable...... actually no!

I'd have given Conley 4 year/14 mil

and i think his camp would go for it.

he's restricted though. let another team offer him a contract then match.

Wow. Based off of what? A half a decent season? Oh Memphis...

Also, off topic, but how's about Blazers not picking up Odens option?

Maybe every time they look at Oden they see the ghost of Kevin Durant.

RealGM is at least 90% stupid and/or crazy, but there was always something joyfully perverse in watching Blazers fans there try to retroactively justify taking Oden over Durant as the right decision.

"WE NEEDED DEFENSE, NOT OFFENSE!"

"28 GMS WOULD HAVE MADE THE SAME PICK!"

"IT'S NOT LIKE HE CAN'T GET HEALTHY IN THE FUTURE! BIG Z DID!"

"STILL HAS POTENTIAL!"

High comedy.

What a stupid thing to do. Who would have thrown big money at Conley in the offseason?

Yeah, I don't get why it's wrong to admit they did wrong.

"We went by the philosophy that you take a great big before a great guard. Oden had the potential to be great and we took a risk with his injury history. We bought into Oden's hype that has been building since he was in 7th grade. We saw what he did with a broken wrist and thought he was going to be the next Patrick Ewing or something. We often see a lot of prolific wing scorers in college flame out in the pro's. Our scouting team dropped the ball on this one though, we were too focused on Durant's perceived weaknesses and conflicting positions with Roy that we ignored a lot of his positives. We screwed up."

Thats not ****ing your organization. Good, even great, GM's make terrible decisions sometimes.

After his foot falls off in a week or so they will be happy about that one. Maybe its just because I lived through the Grant Hill saga but I would never take a guy who had an injury history at every single level he played at.
