magic proposes VC for gilbert trade. deal done by this week!?!?

Recommended Posts

i'm on the fence on the entire thing, he's a risk, but if he goes on a point scoring bender with jameer and rashard then dwight and whoever else is at the 3 would just have to play solid defense and hit their open shots. does anyone here care to research how he's done since his knee issues?

Here's an Arenas (28) age comparison...

5 years younger than VC (33)

Same age as D-Wade (28)

Same age as Jameer (28)

A few years ago, he was in the conversation with Dwyane Wade, and the Wizards were having fantastic success, even leading the Eastern conference for a while. Of course, he's had multiple set-backs since then, but he absolutely has game.

Can he get back to all-star level? That's debatable, but there's no denying the man's a competitor. Drafted in the second round, he made a name for himself with everybody doubting him. He wore the number zero because that's how many minutes people said he would play in college. The man thrives on proving people wrong.

Enter the gun situation. More than ever, Arenas has something to prove.

Contract-wise, the trade is questionable. Obviously, Otis has searched and failed to find a better deal if this goes down. He could wait 'til the trade deadline, and VC's contract would go up in value, but then we have to deal with integrating a new key player half-way through the season. Plus, if Arenas plays even at 2/3 his olf self, would said player be any better? Unlikely.

Character-wise, Gilbert Arenas is a little nutty, but he's not what some people would call a "thug". I really do think he's a kind-hearted person who just made an extremely immature decision with no ill-intentions.

Another way to look at the whole thing: Arenas' value is at an all-time low. From the gun situation to Washington drafting Wall, we could never get Arenas for less than we can now. It's a situation that could really pay off if he gets his crap together, and at 28 years old, I really think he can.

What does this team lack the most right now?

Exactly what Gilbert can bring, scoring and creating.

The Magic were top 4 in the league last year in offensive efficiency.

Out of curiosity, what improvements would you make?

Jareth: A nice grilled fillet of salmon between two pieces of multi-grain flatbread, with a light brushing of lemon juice, and then tickets to see screaming dolphin at the social.

Horrible trade. Even with a first round pick, the financial commitment is horrible.

watch basketball before saying dumb things

Gilbert got better every month last year, including 25/8 in december

he would be huge upgrade

Yes, because committing a large sum of the teams money for the next 4 years is such a brilliant idea, especially for someone who WON'T take us over the top. Thanks for the pep talk.

Gil could play SG as well

people can say what they want, but arenas is exactly the type of player that can put a team on his back and pretty much score at will.

I feel sorry for Howard, he's supposed to be the face of this team and the #1 option, but no one mentions his name when talking about a player that can put this team on their back and score at will.

Also, I'm impressed that half or most of the people on this forum would prefer to have vince over Arenas. You people make it seem like Vince isn't worth more than a bag of chips and a soft drink. You should be willing to trade him for a happy meal.

Vince is only worth is expiring contract. There's no doubt most of us would prefer Arenas if it weren't for the financial commitment he'll require.

Improve defense against dribble penetration.

Pass to Dwight in the post sooner when he's established deep position.

Improve offense against zone defenses, because christ-on-a-stick were we terrible against them last year.

I kind of feel like we should just roll with what we got, let the VC and and Rashard contracts run their course, maybe do a few other things to get under the cap along the way and re-tool through free agency.
