ma 6 Report post Posted January 20, 2010 First, I apologize for the new thread. I wish there were a couple of sticky threads with general discussion topics where people can post their stuff and it would be read without getting lost. **************************** Here is my 2 cents on Stan and Vince/Hedo: - Stan: Stan is not the best motivator for sure. His personal skills may lack some warm approachable older brother figure. He is also very animated and expressive. Doesn't like keeping anything in. May not make the best decision on lineups and rotations, or offensive gamesets. But.. He is a very demanding person, perfectionist kind of. And he is not afraid of any player or Stern to speak his mind. He seems also very good with statistics and kind of a clever guy. So, let's look at achievements of Magic during his time: 07-08 improved from 40 to 52 wins, one MIP award, 2nd round 08-09 improved to 59 wins, one DPOY award, COY nomination, Finals I would say that keep Stan, but hire some good assistant coaches for more offensive creativity. - Vince/Hedo: Vince is probably the best dunker in the NBA history and a solid scorer. However he doesn't seem to play very well with other established scorers around him (Jameer, Rashard). Vince needs the ball in his hands to get himself going, and he doesn't have the awareness of his teammates needs that much. He takes the easy route way too much with 2 feet behind the 3pt line chuckers. Hedo was not very athletic and a relatively inconsistent scorer, but his dribbling skills and game IQ was very high. In addition, his personal awareness was very high, and he always tried to get all the teammates involved in the game early. Hedo needed the ball in his hands to get his teammates going (especially Rashard). That's why he was mr.4th quarter, he didn't look for his shot until late in the game, which might explain some inconsistency. He also didn't always perform well with minimal rest between games. So, the problem this season is that: Jameer is a solid scorer , so he looks to get himself going early (as opposed to Alston whose shooting was secondary). Rashard needs to be fed the ball to score (can't create his own much), and same with Dwight. So, we are left with Barnes/Pietrus and vince in the starting lineup. Now, Barnes doesn't handle the ball much, and Pietrus is not known to pass anything. Vince is the guy who should be balancing this starting lineup by creating mainly for Rashard and Dwight. He is not doing it so far, and our starting lineup always gets outplayed by the other team.

This paragraph is very true having not really watched Carter much throughout his career I am not able to say if he has been a good passer. I do know that he attracted the double team often because he has always been a first option player. This season he is or should be the third scorer until the fourth quarter. Thus far I see him coming out early shooting horid jumpers that he makes extremely hard. What we need is for him to get some dimes. Perhaps a dollar worth? I wouldn't mind that. Will we see it? I tend to have my doubts at this point. He just seems lazy and willing to chuck 35 footers.

ivielma 0 Report post Posted January 20, 2010 I think that Carter needs to embrace JJ Reddick mentality. Hear me out! JJ Reddick was a prolific scorer when he was in college. It was natural for him to want to play as a rookie and of course demanded a trade when he didn't get playing time. Well, now we can all see that his strict college game doesn't translate well into the NBA. He has learned to create his own shot, distribute the ball, improve court vision, take it to the hoop at times, take a charge when needed and improved defense. This is the transformation that VC needs to take. Not only embrace JJ like play but also Kobe like play. In his later years Kobe has learned to hone many of the above skills mostly distribution and picking his shots carefully. It will be a transition for VC since he was everything to the Nets. I think that with time and an open mind VC can gel with the current crew but I hope he does it before either we fall flat in the playoffs or he is traded. I think with a mind shift VC can be a dangerous weapon on the floor (not talking about scoring) and can take over the 4th quarter as we think he can.
Optimus Prime 0 Report post Posted January 20, 2010 You can't say Carter can't play with other scorers did you forget he played with RJ, KIDD and had Krstic looking like a top center in the game before his injury? and Bosh second year he was 17 and 9? and Jameer is an established scorer after one good half a season? ma 6 Report post Posted January 20, 2010 Kidd is not a shoot first guy. I don't know much about Jefferson.Bosh was not an established scorer then, Jameer was player of the year in college. quote: Originally posted by Optimus Prime:You can't say Carter can't play with other scorers did you forget he played with RJ, KIDD and had Krstic looking like a top center in the game before his injury? and Bosh second year he was 17 and 9? and Jameer is an established scorer after one good half a season? If he knew anything about the game and could actually coach, he could yell, be the biggest ahole in the NBA, and the players would still respect him. What the hell was that exchange with the refs about singing a song? (talking about when he was wired live against LA). I thought Stan always says the problem is lack of focus? This guy cannot coach even if his life depended on it.
