Marc Stein just twittered two things:

After spending all day trying to recruit a fourth team, Dallas' deal for Marion will be a three-teamer, with Memphis taking on Stackhouse

quote:

Grizz will waive Stack and buy him out for 2 mil by Aug. 10 with Mavs cash. It says here Stack will be an underrated FA find for someone

We CANNOT do a S&T for Gortat. He has signed the offer sheet. We either match, or we don't. Period.

But Junkie, I actually do think we might very well be the 4th team involved, as Toronto has made it plain that they want to work S&Ts, but Toronto has nothing we truly want.

With our interest in Bass, it would make sense that we would want to jump in to this transaction.

Might not happen, but it certainly is a possibility.

Update from ESPN:

quote:

The Dallas Mavericks and Toronto Raptors on Wednesday night moved to the brink of completing a complicated sign-and-trade deal involving the Memphis Grizzlies and at least one other team that will ultimately send Marion to Dallas, according to NBA front-office sources.

Sources told ESPN.com that the trade would also send Jerry Stackhouse to the Grizzlies and include one more team that has yet to be identified, with one source close to the process saying that a trade call with the league office has been scheduled for Thursday, indicating that all sides have agreed in principle.

The known parameters of the deal call for Marion to receive a five-year contract in the region of $40 million from the Mavericks and land Stackhouse in Memphis, where he will be bought out by the Grizzlies -- with cash furnished by Dallas -- for $2 million by Aug. 10. Toronto will receive unspecified draft considerations and/or cash, but the involvement of a fourth team virtually assures that other players from the Mavericks and Grizzlies will be involved.

Dallas spent much of Wednesday trying to find a fourth team to join in after the Mavericks and Raptors successfully recruited Memphis to participate and take on Stackhouse's contract, thereby ensuring that Toronto could help Marion find a new home without endagering the cap space needed to sign Hedo Turkoglu away from Orlando later this week.

From realgm... looks good! * Report this post * Reply with quote Re: Toronto/Dallas: S&T Shawn Marion, Memphis is 3rd Team PG 9 New postby EViLMiKE on Wed Jul 08, 2009 11:05 pm All this trade speculation is great! This has been a great lesson in Capology. For this trade what we know now for sure is 3 teams (TOR, DAL, MEM) are involved; with a possibility of a fourth team being added. Who is the 4th team? My guess - Orlando. The magic make a lot of sense being the 4th team, since they are a source and rumoured destination for players from TOR and/or DAL. I could see the trade being expanded to include at the very least Gortat, Bass, and Hedo. It's a good bet that Gortat and Bass will be trading teams, and Hedo is obviously going to TO. ORL, DAL, and TOR could all save their MLEs by working together. Something like this is hugely beneficial to all team involved: TOR Trades: Shawn Marion $22 million/3 years (flat) Cash $3,000,000 Future 2nd Round Pick TOR Receives: Hedo Turkoglu $53 million/5 years (10.5% inc) Why? Raptors get Turk, keep the rights to their bench, and keep their MLE and LLE. DAL Trades: Jerry Stackhouse $7,250,000 Brandon Bass $15 million/4 years (flat) Antoine Wright $1,800,000 Cash $3,000,000 Future 2nd Round Pick DAL Receives: Shawn Marion $22 million/3 years (flat) Marcin Gortat $32 million/5 years (10.5% inc) Why? Mavs get Marion and Gortat AND keep their MLE. MEM Receives: Jerry Stackhouse $7,250,000 Cash $3,000,000 Future 2nd Round Pick Why? Stack is bought out for $2 mil. Being financially prudent just made $1 million and a second round pick for MEM. Not bad for doing nothing. ORL Trades: Hedo Turkoglu $53 million/5 years (10.5% inc) Marcin Gortat $32 million/5 years (10.5% inc) ORL Receives: Brandon Bass $15 million/4 years (flat) Antoine Wright $1,800,000 TPE (non-simultaneous) $8,700,000 Cash $3,000,000 Future 2nd Round Pick Why for ORL? Hedo and Turk are gone anyways, might as well get back something in return. Bass, Wright, a huge TPE, Cash, and future 2nd is a big incentive to join the other 3 teams. From my understanding a favor from Cuban. In fact, they wont even lose anything in the deal because Cuban will be paying the money they'll use to buyout Jerry.

The buyout for Stackhouse is 2 million and Cuban is giving Memphis 3 million. Nice tidy profit of 1 million for not doing all that much.

That is the kind of favor anyone would like to do lol.

They also get Douby from the Raptors and send Buckner to the Mavs.

I think it's hillarious how some people said with absolute assurance as if they're Otis's right hand man or something that this wouldn't go down.

The fact of the matter is we have to give Otis his props when props are due. He somehow found a way to get us money that will either help us now (which is when I imagine him using it), or at some point during the reg season or next offseason. Basically it just increases his options. Good work Otis. Like Britney b****, you did it again!

I'm guessing he may go for someone like David Lee. New York would love to have this TE.
