Pachulia, 25, spent the last four years with the Hawks on a $16 million deal. His new deal is believed to be for the same amount of years but with a significant raise, according to one of the sources familiar with the situation.

I doubt Otis would've given him that.

One more step along the road towards matching Gortat. Zaza gets 4 million per as a backup.

EDIT: Read that wrong, he was making 4 mil. Probably getting near the MLE now. Still think matching Gortat is overpaying him?

Well, thats too bad. If there was one team to lock him up, it would have been the Hawks. Good for them, he is a good player. It was unrealistic in hoping that we could attain him for part of the MLE, but we can hope cant we?

I was hoping he would fall into our lap for less than the MLE along with Bass. Oh well. I guess productive big men are too hard to find for that to happen.

One of the big voices of doom saying that We shouldn't pay Gortat MLE type money to be a back up is the same voice of financial doom and gloom that declared earlier this year, and on a regular bases since then, that the economy would spell doom for free agents and in particular, that there was no way Hedo would get a 5 year 50 million dollar contract.

In a shallow front court, matching that offer for Gortat makes sense. Both in the mind of keeping him as a back up playing minutes at the 5 and 4, and also as a solid piece to trade before the deadline for the right return.

If he got a raise, then he is not worth it. Better to retain Gortat for slightly more money.

This needs to be around the NBA
