Are the Magic making too many moves

Recommended Posts

This team went to the NBA Finals and they are completely tearing up this team. No Alston, No Battie, No Lee, No Hedo and now no gortat most likely. Yes we needed to make a deal because Cavs got Shaq but shaq alone wont help. The Lakers lost to the Celtics and made like 1 or 2 moves and won the finals the next year. Adding Vince is a big move because it makes our team older and even though the offseason is far from over... we dont have a deep bench.

Alston - Was a 1 year rental anyhow. We have an All-Star PG. No need to pay that kind of money for a backup.

Battie - LOL

Hedo - Not worth the long term. We'd have to sign him to too much money for too long. Was important part of this team, but was upgraded by acquiring Vince.

Lee - We gave up a stud rookie SG for a stud rookie PF. We'll be OK. He was a fan favorite, and one of my favorites, but Ryan is going to be good for this team.

Gortat - Same thing with Alston. Too much for a backup at that position without being versatile enough to play another. Will do good for another team. Plus, we still may sign him, so who knows.

No. We are keeping our base core together and adding better pieces.

Hedo has been a good player for us but its his choice, not ours. He was made a fair offer and he declined it. So the Magic are making moves to offset and improve a championship team.

I loved Courtney as a player but Vince Carter is def an improvement. Other than that, we are moving role players for better talent and depth.

This is not blowing up a team, its improving for the future and a better chance at a ring.

The thing people don't understand, and what Cutestory aptly pointed out, is that were are not making these moves out of panic, or for the sake of change, we are basically being forced into making moves.

Hedo not accepting our offer = trading for Carter.

Rafer was brought here on a trade last year.

Battie was worthless and making way too much for a guy who plays once every 5 games.

Lee is a stud but we got a young player in return who fills a need.

Gortat was a long shot from the beginning. He's a starter in this league and deserves that chance. He wont get it here and we shouldn't pay $7-8 Mil for a backup.

AND....

It's not even July yet, we have plenty of time to fill out our roster.

Yeah, but the Lakers essentially added Bynum and Ariza to the rotation (hurt against the Celtics), and it was their first full season with Gasol.

Also, if Hedo was willing to sign on the cheap like Odom will do to keep their team together, things might be different.

the magic got rid of a role player, a rental, and a useless battie. granted we're probably going to lose hedu/gortat. however, hedu isn't worth the deal he wants and gortat is too much money for a backup. the front office knows what they're doing. give it time before people start making panic threads.
