Best ever PF to wear a Magic uniform?

Recommended Posts

I was searching the interwebs, trying to see what PF's are out there, dreaming about Amare or Bosh next to Dwight, when I came across some old video of Horace Grant, which led me to realize he's the exact kind of player we need. Well, then I got curious as to other good PF's the Magic have had, and the only other name I could come up with was Rashard, who is actually a SF. Have the Magic really been so devoid of PF's that we only have 2 near all-stars that have ever manned the position? And no, Dwight's early years don't count.

Drew Gooden was pretty good when we first got him mid season at the deadline. I remember he put up some big numbers in the playoffs for us.

Of course the next season he lost his mind and started to think that he was a shooting guard.

The Magic have had their share of pathetic 4's, but we've had several good 1's who were exiled too soon.

Ben Wallace, Brian Williams, Drew Gooden, Darko, & I always felt Derek Strong was vastly underrated prior to dying briefly.

Horace without hestitation. The man couldn't score, but he knew his job was defense and rebounding and we still scored over 100 points a game with him.

After him, even though he's not a real PF, I'd got to go with Rashard. He's an All-Star, playing out of his normal position. Yeah, his rebounding is not as good as it should be, but his defense on bigs has been much better than I expected.

Can we add Chris Webber to that list?

If Webber doesn't count then Horace Grant is the clear winner. I still consider Lewis a SF.

Skywise, we really haven't had many true PFs. It's really hard not to say Horace Grant or Darko on this one.

I still have an old Grant jersey from his first stint with the Magic. Wore it once, because two weeks after I bought it, he left. Then when he came back, he had already transformed into Grant the Locker Room Assassin.
