2008 MVP discussion - MOCK GM DRAFT

Recommended Posts

Ok so I figured in order to really get the true answer out of my self of who the MVP is, I had to imagine all the teams being cleared and GM's having to draft the players all over again and signing them to one year contracts. (so that age isn't a factor)

Who would be taken in the top 10?... answer yourself.

heres what I answer,

1. Lebron - he really does EVERYthing.

2. Kobe - lock down D, scoring when u need. sports 3 rings. The game changer.

3. Kevin Garnett - makes his team play and look better. leader, performer.

4. Chris Paul - 23 YO. freaky quickness. 8 eyes, 2 for each side.

5. Dwayne Wade - young. does it all as well. wears a ring to bed.

6. Dwight - 22 years old. Dominates with a capital D in the paint. (ill explain later)

7. Tim Duncan - you defend one way, he'll beat you the other. winning mentality.

8. Paul Pierce - when he gets hot, he is for that moment pretty underrated on this list.

9. D Williams - unfortunately sits in shadow of CP3. young and amazing.

10. Chris Bosh - scores, rebounds, paint presence.

Dwight is behind 5 players because 3 of them are proven clutch champions, one has carried a very mediocre team to the Finals already(Lebron), and Chris Paul, b/c he's a PG, makes everybody on his team amazingly better. Dwight has proven he has just enough weaknesses for opposing teams to attack that he can not be taken above those guys as being more valuable. IMO. whats yours? honest.

i would put dwight ahead of paul, wade and garnett. Garnett can't be the main guy on a championship team. I think great centers are rarer than great pgs and have a greater effect on the game so i put him above paul. Wade was on the least impressive championship team i've ever seen. If the refs don't escort him to the line 30 jillion times a game, the mavs win that series. I realize it doesn't matter now and he will always be a champion, but he would need a lot of help to win another one.

1. Lebron

2. Kobe

3. Paul

4. Dwight

5. Wade

6. Garnett

7. Bosh

8. Duncan

9. Pierce

10. Redick

Sorry, couldn't help myself...

By next year, Durant will likely make the list.

He was actually the one I was going to put at 10, but I decided to take a cheap shot instead.

Both Dirk and Pierce have proven that they need plenty of help from other superstars to actually win anything, so I see them as fairly equal. Dirk is probably more talented offensively, but he's also more of a ball-hog. You do however get the additional rebounding out of Dirk.

I was actually referring to just how mediocre Pierce has played this year. It's gotten lost, since Boston keeps winning, but Pierce has hovered sub-.400 shooting for most of the year and is playing much worse defense than he did last season. Dirk's been much more efficient this year than Pierce has been, and Dirk's also passing a bit better this year.

My list:

1- LeBron

2- Duncan

3- Kobe

4- Howard

5- Wade

6- Garnett

7- Deron Williams

8- Chris Paul

9- Nash

10- Manu

Almost making the list: Amare, Parker, Gasol, Bosh.

For the future: Rudy - Barbosa (in the years to come they will be multiple times all-star. These kids are amazing).

I can't believe people are down on Wade, he is KILLING it this year.

He has better FG%, 3P%, STL, BLK, PPG and APG than Lebron and he is on a far worse team!

Not to mention his lockdown D and this dunk of the year so far!

I love what Lebron is doing but show some love for D-Wade, guy is the real deal!

I think Wade is going to have 2 MVPs in his career, and he is one of the best players on earth.

That being said, you have to take into account that he is probably beating LeBron in STL, BLK, PPG and APG this season because he plays much more minutes/game, noting that LeBron is resting pretty much every 4th quarter, since his team is completely blowing out their opponents.

Wade is averaging 36.8 to LBJ's 35 MPG! I know what you mean though as even if Lebron does play in the 4th he is not at full speed as the Cavs are blowing teams out left right and center!

I know Dirk is a great player. but i'm not a huge fan of his game. I don't see him as a court leader. I feel like he can't choose when he wants to be a game changer.

as far as pierce goes, he just won a ring being the MVP of the finals. when he chose to turn it on, he scored. dirk hasn't done the same in a while.
