All Eyes On Me

The Prunty hiring is official. What a stellar off-season by Weltman and Parker. I barked loud after another dead trade deadline, but he’s redeemed himself this summer and then some.

He’s in the Popovich coaching tree and was on staff for 3 championships with the Spurs, so I’m all for it :)

So if we’re done, the off-season saw us turn KCP, Cole, Gary, Cory Joseph, McClung and Caleb into Bane, Tyus, Jase, and Penda. Still a good chance we bring back Caleb imo as the last roster spot. Hell of an off-season. Our big man rotation will be the deciding factor on just how high our ceiling is.

Moe officially back, 1 year $5 million

Sounds like the Suns are working toward a Beal buyout. I wonder if he’d come back home to play for the minimum after our buyout. Is he washed? Sure. Could he play a no pressure role in 10-12 minutes off the bench? I think so

We let go of the rights to Mac McClung, so he’s now a UFA

About as an exciting off-season move for an assistant coach as you could possibly have. This is the best Magic off-season since the T-Mac and Hill off-season 24 years ago.

Jett not on the summer league roster… Is this anything?

Us, Atlanta and Detroit all making moves to change the balance of power in the East this off-season. Maybe I’m just bored and hopeful, but I feel like we’re still working a trade. Something like JI and Jett for Monk

Yeah, I think we prob bring back Moe and a minimum guy, then when Moe is healthy we might make a trade depending on how the team is doing to make room in the rotation for him.

The Dame stuff is crazy. Way to ruin yourself for FAs going forward. I expect Giannis to force his way out now, didn’t before today.

Will be interesting to see how we wrap up the off-season, right now weve got about $6.5 million til we hit a hard cap and 2 empty roster spots. If Moe is coming back, someone is getting salary dumped. Goga? JI? Jett? If moe isn’t coming back we’re bringing in 2 minimum guys and calling it done

Tyus Jones has led the NBA in assist/turnover ratio for the last 6 seasons. Also is over a 40% shooter from deep for his career. Might not be a sexy move, but he’s going to unlock levels in Franz and Paolo that we haven’t seen before.

Massive extension for Jaren Jackson Jr, 5 year $240 million

7 minutes into free agency and no moves have been announced yet. Wow

We could trade for Coby pretty easily this year, but it’d almost assuredly be a one year rental. Declining Caleb and Moe’s team options points to an FA move more than a trade imo

I feel like we pick up the option on a healthy Moe Wagner. The ACL injury and him probably missing 2-3 months of next season had to have played a role in this decision

I think CT said it already, but if we could swing JI for a guard and sign DFS, that’s a massive W

Deadline on the Moe and Caleb team options is today at 5 EST. If we pick up both we’re pretty much done outside of a trade. If we decline both, we have an FA target in mind for tomorrow.

Lonzo Ball to Cleveland, Isaac Okoro to Chicago

I love Moe as much as everyone else, but we can’t pick up his team option. He’s going to miss half the season continuing to recover from his ACL. The move is decline it, use the MLE, then use his bird rights to sign him to something more lucrative long term. If he gets a better offer elsewhere, so be it. His injury plays a big factor in what we do with him imo.

Yeah, there’s still more to come imo. We have to decline Moe so we can access the full MLE, unless we trade JI. For me it boils down to, was Penda brought in to replace JI? We’ve been super aggressive and I agree the title aspirations are real, but the bench doesn’t fit the mold yet. We’re either trading a big for backcourt help and signing a new big, or we gotta use the MLE on a guard. Should be an interesting weekend

Yeah, we’ve been hoarding 2nds for years to make moves like this too. I got a chuckle out of people saying we gave up “too much”. Picks after 45 are a crapshoot, we gave up two of them, and the future 2nds to me have next to no value.
