Hey gentlemen.... Its been a long time since I have posted here. I miss our fiery debates. I joined the U.S. Army and am loving every minute of it. Even more exciting is being WITNESS(hear that LeBron?)to the Magic finally turning the corner to greatness. We have an amazingly talented young team that looks to stay in tact for years. Its an exciting time to be a Magic fan. I am stationed in Ft. Benning, Ga. Thats a 6 1/2 hour drive. And I drove down this morning. And I did it with hopes of scoring a ticket for tonights game. (Sorry Mods if this is in the wrong section, for give me Sirs) Not looking for a handout here. Gladly have money to spend on a ticket. I tried going to the Arena and people there were giving some crazy numbers. So I wanted to try my luck one last place, here. If anyone has a seat for a soldier, It would rock my world. The Magic have a good formula working. We have Dwight Howard in the middle and four shooters that teams have to guard. We made the mistake once of thinking we needed more defense. And what did we do? We traded Cat Mobley for Doug Christie. Anyone remember how that worked out? We are an average defensive team. Dwight patrols the middle and is in the top 5 in blocks, and tops in rebounding. The absolute worst thing we can do is put in a player that allows other teams to double Dwight without fear of the unmaned magic player burning them. TheGodfather

Im sure that SVG and Hedo would not have done anything to risk his injury. Obviously both felt he was good enough to go. And again, even if he was ineffective, just the threat of him out there would have stretched the defense and allowed the offense to flow. I understand our offensive rebound woes, but they have to be weighed against the the problems Augustine would have caused. SVG saw that Hedo being in the game, not Augustine, gave the Magic the best chance to win the game. There is a reason you NEVER see Augustine on the court during a close game in the 4th quarter. Tonight was no different. If the Magic were to lose the game, I doubt anyone would have attributed it to SVG not subing JA for Hedo late in the 4th. TheGodfather

In my opinion, bringing him off the bench would decrease his productivity. Hedo is thriving now because of Howard and Rashard. Teams cant focus on all 3. If you put him in with the second unit, sans Shard/Howard, teams can zero in on him more. But the flip side is, even if he can score his career average off the bench, it would still be one hell of a spark. I think we shouldnt mess with a good thing. But it will be interesting to see what happens next year when Battie comes back. Will they start Battie and Howard at 4/5 with Nelson, Bogans and Shard at 1/2/3? Or will Battie come off the bench for Shard and add a big, physical body to go with Foyle replacing Howard? Who knows. TheGodfather

He had an elbow issue and wasn't doing good out there because of his injury. He barely made an alley pass to howard because of this. Hedo went for 7-19 fg,2-7 3pts 7 turnovers, 4 personal fouls by the 4th quarter. While the bulls mounted an attack on us, we could have put James in place of him to help on the defensive end and help us with the offensive rebound struggle. Hedo only had 5 points in the 4th quarter and 2 fouls. He made up for it in the 4th quarter but we clearly did not need to go to the 4th quarter. We weren't struggling on offense, we struggled on defense through most of the game. Outrebounded and outmuscled in the perimeter. Quite frankly, Hedo could have had his rest and we could have won the game without going overtime. Turk is having an amazing year. In particular, in the fourth quarter. He may have been struggling, but as you see, you dont take out one of your best players because they are struggling. They play through it. When Kobe Bryant goes 6 for 23, if they are down 1 point, he will still take the final shot. Hedo is one of our best scorers. In a close game you want as many scoring options as possible. Putting in James Augustine in the game would have screwed everything up. All that does is give Chicago a free pass to double Dwight Howard because they dont fear Augustine on the offensive end. They could have left a man on Shard, Bogans and Jameer-keeping the 3 piont ball out of the equation-and doubled with James' man knowing Howard needs a little more work passing to the inside out of a double team. Our offense makes teams pay for double teaming by Howard kicking out to Shard, Bogans, Meer or Hedo. Putting in James would have been ridiculous. Remember when Rashard was struggling? Did he come out? No. It doesnt matter that he was in a shooting slump, the threat of him was enough. Teams still had to account for him. Same thing with Hedo. With him out on the court, teams had to respect his shot, whether he was making them our not. SVG knows this, and that is why you saw James Augustine on the bench and Hedo making the game winner. If we can get him for cheap, and if he can accept playing 20 mins a game, I say go for it. He has to accept his role. But he has said that he wants starting minutes. That wont happen here. But if he changes his mind and wants to be a part of a great team atmosphere and contribute, welcome aboard. TheGodfather
