  1. quote: Sure, the Magic would love to sign free agent shooting guard Corey Maggette and plug him into a lineup with Dwight Howard, Jameer Nelson, Rashard Lewis and Hedo Turkoglu. This would be terrific if the games were cut to 30 minutes and nobody would ever get injured. The problem --- even if Maggette would take less and accept the midlevel exception (worth about $6 mill per) --- is that the Magic would have one of the weakest benches in the league. Because if Maggette would be so generous, the only way the Magic could sign more players and not creep into the punitive luxury tax is offer them the league minimum. You'd have maybe four or five players making the $1.5 million to $1.8 million minimum. http://blogs.orlandosentinel.com/sports_magic/2008/07/the-problem-wit.html
  2. 2007-2008: Chris Duhon - 66 G, 22.6 MPG, 5.8 pts, 4.0 ast, 1.8 reb, 0.71 stl, 1.08 TO, 39% FG, 35% 3-PT Carlos Arroyo - 62 G, 20.4 MPG, 6.9 pts, 3.5 ast, 1.8 reb, 0.42 stl, 1.24 TO, 45% FG, 34% 3-PT Stats pretty much cancel each other out. Would it then depend on who would accept less money?

  4. http://sports.espn.go.com/nba/news/story?id=3470016 quote: Maggette is drawing serious interest from San Antonio, Orlando and Boston already and could emerge as a top target of Philadelphia if the 76ers -- armed with more salary-cap space (an estimated $12.4 million) than any other team in the league besides Memphis -- are unable to sign restricted free-agent forward Josh Smith away from the Atlanta Hawks. Yet Maggette could also wind up as a target for the Warriors, who without Davis' salary suddenly have the financial flexibility to re-sign prized youngsters Monta Ellis and Andris Biedrins and make a splashy signing or two from the outside. Throws the Warriors and Sixers into the mix for Maggette too, and with a lot more money to offer him at that.
  5. Duhon is nuts if he thinks he's getting anything close to the full MLE -although now that I think about it, the Knicks might be dumb enough to bite.

  7. quote: Erstwhile Chicago Bulls point guard Chris Duhon is expected to be in town to talk to the Magic today about a free-agent opening. He wants all or a majority of the mid-level exception, worth about $6 million a season. But like the Knicks, the Magic want to split it up between two players almost evenly. So unless Duhon comes down a little -- hey, it's early in the bargaining process --- he and Orlando can't marry. Duhon is just playing the game. He knows that even though he has been a back-up most of his career in Chicago, the point-guard free agent class is weak. (Now you know why Magic GM Otis Smith signed Jameer Nelson to a five-year, $40 million extension before the start of last season. Nelson would be the runaway No. 1 point guard as a free agent this summer.) http://blogs.orlandosentinel.com/sports_magic/2008/07/chris-duhon-in.html
  8. http://proxy.espn.go.com/chat/chatESPN?event_id=21316 Get your Maggette to Orlando questions in now!
  9. quote: Dave(Orlando): Maggette to Orlando for the MLE and a ring...would he bite on that...No state taxes, parents live here, and a chance to actually win and stop playing on that other team in LA that nobody knows about. John Hollinger: (3:24 PM ET ) It's possible, but only if the rest of hte market for him dries up. If the pursuit of Josh Smith doesn't work out, Philly could offer him some good dough to replace the aforementioned Willie Green. Otherwise, MLE may be best he can do anyway, so why not go home.
  10. http://blogs.orlandosentinel.com/sports_magic/2008/06/maggette-move-u.html quote: Well, it's nice that Clippers shooting guard Corey Maggette apparently wants to return to Orlando, where he started his career. He could become an unresticted free agent today. The reality is that the Magic can't afford him; their free-agent game-plan is to put some relatively inexpensive pieces around Dwight Howard. The Magic have all their money tied up in five players: Howard, Rashard Lewis, Jameer Nelson, Hedo Turkoglu and Tony Battie. They are rummaging through the bargain bin now to find some serviceable pieces and to fill out the roster. GM Otis Smith used the word "fiscal responsibility" the other day when talking about free agents. Concentrate more on these sort of names for the Magic in free agency: PG/SG Keyon Dooling, PG Chris Duhon, guard/forward Mikael Pietrus, point guard Jason Williams, shooting guard Jarvis Hayes and PG/SG Juan Dixon.
  11. Unless it's a sign and trade, it's pretty easy to see that obtaining Maggette this summer will not happen.

  13. As it stands right now, one day after draft night, the Orlando Magic roster looks like this: Dwight Howard Rashard Lewis Hedo Turkoglu Jameer Nelson Tony Battie Keith Bogans Courtney Lee JJ Redick Marcin Gortat Brian Cook And the guys possibly not returning: Keyon Dooling Maurice Evans Carlos Arroyo James Augustine Adonal Foyle Pat Garrity Who do you hope the Magic can grab to fill out the rest of this roster - whether through free agency or trades this summer?

  15. It has been repeatedly reported that Miami and Orlando will not be doing any trades with each other after the SVG/future draft pick swap thanks to Pat Riley. Neither team wants to help each other anyway. I'd love Haslem, but I doubt it will happen.

    Magic Promise to Pick Lee

quote: Houston has offered Luther Head and the No. 25 pick to Washington in hopes of moving up to No. 18 to snag Lee. The Wizards, who are high on Speights, aren't expected to trade their pick. Indiana, who pulled off a blockbuster Wednesday night with the Toronto Raptors involving Jermaine O'Neal and T.J. Ford, could use the No. 17 pick it acquired from the Raptors on Lee as well. So - who do the Magic take if one of these scenarios happen and everyone mentioned is unavilable (Lee, Lopez, Speights)?

  18. HA! That's great. I have no intention of participating in this either, I just figured someone would like the information. How wonderful would it be if old Schmuck, er, Schmitz is sitting there at his computer with no one asking ANY questions of him today at noon?

  21. http://blogs.orlandosentinel.com/sports_magic/2008/06/magic-need-to-h.html quote: It doesn't matter if the Magic on Thursday draft a shooting guard, point guard, small forward, power forward, center or an alien from Mars. As long as that alien can play and contribute, who cares? At this point in the Magic's dismal draft history --- the history that says they bomb when they don't have a No. 1 choice --- they just need to deliver a player. Sure, the odds get longer when you pick at No. 22, but that's no excuse. Other teams have found gems that late. Gilbert Arenas and Carlos Boozer were second-rounders for goodness sakes. Hey, the Magic should get used to the view: A playoff team usually selects this late, and frankly, the later the pick, the better. You want to shoot for where the Celtics are drafting. That's the goal. This draft is pretty deep, and looking wildly unpredictable as any in recent years. So there should be a player there at 22. The rest of the article pretty much rips all the Orlando Magic draft picks aside from the #1's. They do need someone to make SOME kind of impact for this team, whether it's on the court or used later in a trade.
