Yeah, he should in theory be a great defender. Chalk it up to what his role was and a lack of effort. Hopefully he can have a Wiggins like transformation on that end

Have to lol at Ross being the worst defender in the league

I do t really think it is giving up on them outside of whichever you are including in the deal. They have different skill sets than Mitchell does. you say deep playoff runs need more than scoring, but neither the Celtics nor warriors get to the finals without singularly great performances by their best individual scorers. Coke is maybe the guy who has shown that kind of individual ability of the three, but nothing like what Mitchell was doing in year 2. Could he make the jump? It is possible. But if you are betting on any of these guys or future draft picks to have the ability of Mitchell, I think just getting Mitchell would be the safer bet. While our two lost important pieces in Franz and Paolo aren’t in the ready to compete phase yet, Carter Fultz and Isaac are being paid as if they are. Adding Mitchell would definitely put us in the playoffs in the east and wouldn’t it be better for the young guys to experience that sooner rather than later? It is probably a moot discussion since I don’t think the FO will do it, but if they think they have the core of a contending team in place, even if it isn’t ready for the big time yet, I don’t see why they shouldn’t push the chips in to get that last piece

Zach Lowe had Kevin Clark on his pod today and talked a good bit about the magic. It seems like it is always the same discussion when big NBA guys talk magic I.e. rehashing all the bad decisions the team made up to this point, but there was some good discussion about Paolo and lineups. They also both agreed we should attempt to acquire Mitchell if we could do it without mortgaging the future. I find myself agreeing. I don’t think it would be blowing up the rebuild like with Ibaka. Mitchell is a better player and we have better young prospects and assets than back then. Lowe said he thinks we have three fifths of a real future playoff team and eventually if we want to compete we need a real handler and scorer at one of the guard positions. I think Mitchell is young enough and in theory we are long enough to cover his defensive deficiencies, and players like him generally just don’t become available. Maybe you wait until the deadline to see what the core with Paolo looks like, but I would pursue it

I think it is has less to do with them having no balls and more that it isn’t possible

Yeah, Utah is not giving up their best player without giving us one of our two best prospects in return. It’s weird, Mitchell is undoubtedly a better player than Franz, but it is still a tough hurdle for me to get over in my mind

Well Paolo has me sold. The catch and shoot and step back 3s made me really say “okay I see the vision with him”. You can see the Tatum comp, tho he is definitely different. I’ll be curious what his physique ends up looking like a few years down the road. He doesn’t quite have the first step burst so I wonder if they will try to slim him down

I wonder if there would be a way to insert ourselves into a suns and nets trade and come out with bridges or cam johnson

Oh I would absolutely still throw an offer. I just think there is less pressure in house for a deal to be done now

I think the Mitchell trade speculation was because of strife between him and Gobert, so I would bet that with one gone the other will stay

Absolutely. I don’t know if the team is ready to compete tomorrow if we got him, but I do think he would be the kind of guy that can catalyzE the team and push other players forward

Was hoping if we were planning to run back the same core we would at least use cap space to acquire picks. I think the team will be better just based on individual improvements, but hope they front office looks for some trades

    2022 NBA Draft Thread

I find it incredibly hard to believe they would pick someone they do t want without having a deal in place. There was also no talk of any actual discussions happening, just speculation as to why the line shifted all of the sudden to Paolo

A good landing spot for him for sure. Do t think he would amount to anything on a bad team

It is weird how we all talk about how Curry changed the game and made it all about 3s, and yet so many guards lately come into the league as bad shooters. Anyway another guy I think would be fun in the 2nd would be Ron Harper. Would be a big reach tho

I actually don’t think Randle is a great comp, but that is mainly because I don’t think Randle is all that good. I think having Mose as a coach and looking at his work with developing Luka bodes well

The Blake comparison is a good one IMO but also makes one remember that Blake was never on a team that won meaningfully. I think it is interesting because teams driven by the point big type haven’t really found playoff success recently outside of Giannis and I guess Lebron. But hey if he reaches those levels we will have no issues. I think it is why I preferred Smith as a prospect because he just made more sense as to what he is and can be in today’s NBA

I think the hope has to be the shooting gets more consistent and he develops into a legit jumbo wing like every team is looking for these days. Would certainly make him worthy of the top pick. Defense has to come around
