Nobodies discussing Iwundu. I think he can run the point. He did it a lot in college. Has good handles just needs to mature into the position. Maybe Clifford gives him more time there.

Nah

Simmons for delon wright and Norman Powell works

Has TOR's opinion of Powell changed that much in a year?  Weren't they treating him like he was untouchable for a while?  I know he fell out of the rotation but still.

Some Free Agency thoughts.

I think we should use the MLE to go after a PG.

Real Options:

1. Fred VanVleet

2. Dante Exum

3. Yogi Ferrell

Looking at ability plus availability, I think VanVleet is our best option. Both Utah and Dallas are under the cap, so would feel less monetary pressure matching our offer. Toronto, on the other hand, is already over the luxury tax. Put out a high enough offer and they might be wary matching it. Plus, he is probably the best fit, as he is the best shooter of the bunch.

What I think the Magic should do for FA: Cut Mack. Offer Van Vleet the full MLE as soon as free agency starts. Offer Hezonja a 1+1 offer at the 5.2 or what ever it is to try to keep him. Offer Gordon a 100/5 contract and tell him if he wants to test the market, we will match any other offer he can find.

We should also test the waters for any trades for Fournier and Vuch, but only take ones that make sense.

Regardless of what they think of him he's been out of the rotation. They could use an upgrade there.

I like most of your thoughts, though I'm not sure about your second choice of Exum. I might make a fast play for Isaiah Thomas, since the Lakers may not want to commit their money too early to him, and he may take a mid-level, one year plus player option to show the league he is back after his injury. For that matter, Derrick Rose is still a serviceable point guard; not the MVP he once was, but not sure how much it would take to pry him loose from Minn.

Why do you prefer old, washed up and broken down point guards that can't play defense? Those pickups would be against everything our team is building towards and outside of our timeline. Not to mention I have no faith in their ability to produce at even a back up level. Overall, we should be aiming for young PGs with potential, not old PGs on the downswing (both of whom who also seem to be bad locker room presences now).

I definitely have some concerns about Exum, especially due to his injuries. However, his performance at the end of the regular season last year was promising- even if it was a small sample size. He also will only be 23 next year, which fits into our timeline for players. Finally, his size fits into our team build, and his defensive stats were actually fairly impressive in those 14 regular season games he played. According to 82games, he had the second largest positive impact on Utah after Golbert, and NBA's tracking stats have him as holding opposing players to 9.2% under their normal shooting percentages.

Obviously VanVleet is my preferred option, as he is more proven (Exum was a train wreck before this last season), because I think we are more likely able to get him base on monetary considerations (I.E. Toronto will be less likely to match a high offer, as they are already in the luxury tax), and he is a better shooter. But Exum might not be a bad pick up either. A riskier pick up, but one still with some potential.

We need to pick one though and aim at them. If we fail to get one, I think our best option is to find a young guy to put on a short- prove it deal to back up Augustin for next season.

Augustin is better than both Rose and Thomas
