2016-2017 Season Discussion Thread

Recommended Posts

We actually looked good during the 1st and 3rd quarters (when the new starting lineup played together). The ball was moving, we had shooting from the 1 and 2 positions, and we were great defensively with Biz, Ibaka and Gordon.

The thing that was missing was Gordon's offensive game. If he was a legit two-way SF we'd be great.

The problem is that while looking good, we were splitting points with the Bucks. So one of our better lineups is good enough to do that and not much more. When we start playing scrubs like CJ Watson the entire thing goes down.

Gordon's and Biyombo's offensive games are terrible, but they're big men and we have to deal with that. The supporting cast is terrible though.

What I also noticed while watching the game, is that the reason the Bucks are better than us is because they have Giannis who's a monster at cutting to the basket, with his spin moves etc. and even Michael Beasley was giving us fits and driving at will.

Elfrid Payton is the only guy we have that can consistently cut to the basket but he's terrible everywhere else

EP can't run an offense. AG can't shoot very well. Simple. Use them properly.

Ep can run a properly designed offense. We don't have one. Evan is not a go to guy. Ag at this point is just energy and that may be all he ever wil be.

new starting lineup had an offensive rating of 109.5 and a defensive rating of 94.8

that's fantastic

Payton-Watson-Gordon-biyombo-vucevic was 118.2 and 82.9. that's very very good

augustin-fournier-gordon-ibaka-vucevic was 95 and 116. bad

Payton-augustin-Fournier-Ibaka-biyombo was 66.7 and 138.9

That Biz and Vuch combo seems to always be a part of lineups with good ratings recently.

Might need to exploit that more and bring Ibaka off the bench.

Just for this discussion, I wonder what a lineup of Payton/CJ McCollum/AG/Biz/Vuch would be like?

when Gordon was in the game we had an offensive rating of 102.3 and a defensive rating of 95.1

Gordon was on the bench for 16 minutes. in those 16 minutes we had an offensive rating of 90.7 and a defensive rating of 138.9

because we only played Gordon and Fournier at 3 the "on bench" numbers show what we did with Fournier at 3.

over the whole season our net rating improves by 1.5 points when Fournier is on the bench.

over the last 10 games our net rating improves by 12.2 points when Fournier is on the bench.

over the last 5 games our net rating improves by 2.7 when Fournier is on the bench

over the last 3 games our net rating improves by 16.2 when Fournier is on the bench.

over the last 5 games the only players on the team to have positive net ratings are Vucevic, Ibaka, Gordon, payton, and hezonja (lol).

The biggest drop off comes when Ibaka goes to the bench.

Biyombo is a net negative yet all lineups with biyombo-vuceivic and biyombo-ibaka are positive. Biyombo-green and Biyombo-rudez lineups have been horrible.

Do we have any numbers of those four? (no Hezonja) Do they do well together, or do they do their best damage apart?

ok so we have 158 minutes of that initial starting lineup that was basically that group plus Fournier and it was 103.4/110 over the entire season. (bad)

we have 11 minutes of that lineup post okc and its 86.4 and 57.3 (horrible to watch but effective)

we haven't played that 4 with any other players in the last 9 games which is kind of weird.

payton-fournier-green-Ibaka-vucevic is the best defensive lineup in the league of lineups that have played more than 55 minutes together this season.

it's also the worst offensively.
