The Official 2015-2016 Trade Thread

This only makes sense if you think Russell can become a star.

EDIT: I could see LA trying to go after Dipo or Harris, two younger guys that have some experience and could help attract FAs.

Not sure there's much point playing Russell and Payton together.

plus it'd push back the rebuild a year.

so ultimately we're getting cash out of this deal

Cash is nice because iirc it increases the amount of cash we can throw in a deal or use for a buyout. but I might be remembering that completely wrong.

97. Can cash be included as part of a trade package?

Players can be traded for cash, and cash can be included in trade packages. The amount of cash a team can pay or receive per season is limited to the "Maximum Annual Cash Limit," as shown below:

There are two separate limits, one for the cash a team pays as part of trades each season, and the other for the cash a team receives as part of trades each season. For example, in 2011-12 a team may pay up to $3 million as part of one trade, and receive $3 million as part of another trade.

The cash applies to the current season's limit even if it changes hands in a future season. For example, suppose a team trades a draft pick that is top-10 protected this season, top-20 protected next season, and converts to $1 million cash if a pick is not conveyed by next season. $1 million is applied to the teams' Maximum Annual Cash Limit for the current season.

Cash is NOT considered when matching salaries under the Traded Player exception. For example, a taxpaying team cannot add $3 million cash to a trade of their $5 million player in order to acquire a $10 million player.

In a sign-and-trade arrangement, if the contract contains a signing bonus, then any amount of this bonus paid by the signing team counts toward the team's Maximum Annual Cash Limit (see question number 91).

The limit for 2015/16 is $3.4M, both incoming and outgoing. We have not paid anything, and received $100K from the Knicks (KOQ), $1.079M from Miami (Napier), and now $500K from Cleveland.

Who do you all believe will be the best player in 2-3 years: Payton, Dipo or Russell? Curious of the thoughts of the board.

I think you could make an argument for all three because we're dealing with hypotheticals

... Well if all three somehow were on the Magic under Skiles' leadership
