The Official Trade Thread

we should get in on this gay to toronto trade. toronto has a lot of great young prospects (ross, valanciunas, derozen, acy, davis) and basically all memphis wants is to get under the luxury tax. theyre looking for a 3rd team and that tpe could be very helpful in facilitating this trade

The problem with using the TPE is it could make us taxpayers. Not sure ownership wants to do that with declining attendance and still paying Arenas $21M.

I could see us getting involved eventually, but the closer to the deadline we wait the more leverage we'll have. I'm expecting a lot of activity the day of the deadline with our desire to obtain picks and our ability to dangle that TPE, JJ, and pretty much anyone other than Vuc or Harkless.

There's 2 types of owners, one that wants to win and the other doesn't want to pay the luxury tax.

The only problem is that we won't be, nor do we want to be, winning this year or next. So the question becomes are we willing to pay the tax and lose, at least for the next couple years?

Weirdly enough according to basketball reference, we have better attendance this year than last year. We're in fact 6th in the league.

Now this very well could be management inflating gate receipt numbers but still.

ESPN shows us 14th with a drop of 1,100+ per game, for what it's worth.

The Memphis Grizzlies and Toronto Raptors have agreed in principle on a trade that will send leading scorer Rudy Gay to the Raptors, according to sources with knowledge of the deal.

Sources told ESPN.com that the Grizzlies will acquire forward Ed Davis and veteran guard Jose Calderon from the Raptors and then move Calderon on to a third team to ultimately make this a three-team deal.

The Detroit Pistons, sources said, are one of the prime options to take on Calderon, having pursued the Spanish floor leader all season.

The Grizzlies want a small forward out of the trade and Detroit has two believed to be available: Tayshaun Prince and Corey Maggette. But Memphis, sources said, is talking to at least one other team about taking on Calderon and is expected to receive a second-round pick from Toronto as part of the deal.

The Raptors, sources said, are expected to take on Grizzlies reserve center Hamed Haddadi in addition to Gay.

The Dallas Mavericks are the other most likely landing spot for Calderon, but sources said Dallas is resistant to parting with Vince Carter, Memphis' prime target on the Mavs' roster.

Good info, even though a little credibility was lost on this part. Resistant to parting with Wince, really?

Great trade by Memphis. Prince is serviceable and Davis has a lot of potential. Plus, they dump Gay's awful deal. Winner winner chick dinner
