Nike 2 Report post Posted April 11, 2010 L.A. does. Since we're both division winners and split the two games against each other, the tiebreaker is the record versus the opposing conference. The Lakers have a better record versus the East than the Magic do against the West.
NickAnderson 14 Report post Posted April 11, 2010 quote: There has been some confusion about how a tie would be settled in the event of a Lakers-Magic Finals rematch. The league office confirmed for me this morning that since the two teams split their regular-season series, the tie would be decided by record against the opposite conference. That tiebreaker would favor the Lakers, who are 22-8 against the East, while the Magic are 20-10 versus the West. http://espn.go.com/nba/dailydi...0411/abc-sunday-dime
3 Ball 0 Report post Posted April 11, 2010 That is what the media is reporting... that it is the Lakers who hold the tiebreaker, but they have yet to spell out why when they do. I agree with the OP, according to the rules the third tiebreaker is record against OWN conference. As a matter of fact there is nothing on NBA.com that specifies HCA between two teams in the finals, even if you search specifically for it in the event of a tie. Hopefully we can bang out the final two games and it won't matter anyway... Thanks Portland!!!
God hates Magic fans 0 Report post Posted April 11, 2010 it's an *** backwards rule. yeah nba, real fair using opposing conference records.....

the notorious S.A.C. 89 Report post Posted April 11, 2010 I bet if we finish a game ahead of the lakers they change the rule to be you must finish two games ahead of the lakers to get home court advantage. I cant imagine the rule change for the Cavs.
Leoben 0 Report post Posted April 12, 2010 This rule actually may have perfect sense and may be fair, sorry to admit This rule favor Lakers in current season yes, and it sets very dangerous precedence, NBA can favor Lakers and be fair at the same time You give HCA for team which had in theory more difficult job to get same record, teams from different conferences play different opponents, about 30 games more in your own conference so easier conference give unfair upper hand. By looking on records against opposing conference you get a feel which conference was better, same total records so teams should be equally good, if Lakers have more wins on East ground than Magic on West then in theory it means their conference is better. On April 5th it was 245-200 (0.551) advantage for West in inter-conference games, West is better. This rule was used before.
anish_vince 0 Report post Posted April 12, 2010 no need to worry guys.. we got a game on them... and now just having two games left against INDIANA and PHILI. both will be WINS !!... and the lakers hopefully will drop a game against Sacramento or something.... the way the lakers been playing lately ..... i really think either San Antonio or Oklahoma will give them a run for their money in first round... HOPEFULLY they face San Antonio..,.!!
Quester 0 Report post Posted April 12, 2010 http://www.nba.com/statistics/playoff_picture.html quote: d. Home Court Advantage:For purposes of home court advantage, ties will be broken pursuant to the procedures used for breaking two-team ties for playoff position. So: quote: a. Skywise316 211 Report post Posted April 12, 2010 I know, its screwy. According to NBA.com, Magic should get tiebreaker. According to NBA League Office, Lakers should get tiebreaker. So let's just not get Sacramento King-ed and just finish one game ahead of the Lakers.
