yep actually in the 99 season orlando had the best record in the east and thats the year they lost int he 1st round and New York went to the finals and faced the spurs. Spurs won

It's less the owner's need to protect themselves as much as it's the notion that the average owner needs to protect himself from having to overpay to match owners who'll spend whatever because they don't care. Hell, Cuban alone has probably increased player salaries 10%.

 

And despite what Bianchi is selling in this article, I can't imagine the team won't still have to pay rent on the arena during the lockout.
