But, even Nyce was on the phone a little while ago telling me that it we matched Gortat we couldn't trade him for 6 months to a year...I said I don't think that's true...

You are right. There is a time period after matching where Gortat can't be traded without his permission, which might be 6 months, but he's free to be traded in any scenario he consents to as long as that trade isn't to the team that made the original offer sheet.

I imagine that the longer we wait on signing Barnes the more we are talking with Houston about getting Battier. Getting one means the other would be out. Hopefully we are trying to get Lowry out of the deal.
