    Read Between The Lines

NEW ORLEANS -- The agent for Luther Head said Wednesday that his client is healthy and that the New Orleans Hornets have not offered a reasonable explanation for why they rescinded a two-year contract offer for the veteran guard. Mark Bartelstein said the Hornets informed him not long after general manager Jeff Bower had stepped down on Tuesday that Head, who played for the Indiana Pacers last season, had failed a physical. "That's absurd," Bartelstein told The Associated Press by phone Wednesday night. "There's nothing wrong with Luther Head. Nothing. They're doing tremendous damage to a player by putting out there that there's something physically wrong with him when there's nothing wrong with him. ... I spoke to the Pacers' medical staff this morning. They said he passed his end-of-the-season physical with flying colors and there should be absolutely no issues." The Hornets have not formally acknowledged that there was ever a deal with Head, but Bartelstein said on Saturday that Head had a two-year deal with New Orleans worth about $2.5 million, with a player's option for the second season. "Jeff Bower got fired yesterday. This is a deal I made with Jeff Bower on Saturday. Then suddenly, hours after Jeff Bower was fired, I was told they were going to rescind the contract on Luther," Bartelstein said. "So I would ask anyone to connect the dots." Although it was not immediately clear what sort of recourse Head could pursue without a signed contract, Bartelstein told ESPN.com in a phone interview that he would "explore every avenue possible" with the league and National Basketball Players Association to determine if the deal can be enforced. http://sports.espn.go.com/nba/news/story?id=5381188

  8. quote: Originally posted by MouseNtheHouse:As long as one of Bosh, Wade, or Bron are on the court... Does their bench really matter? It's not like there's a written rule that says all of them need to ride the bench at the same... All three of those guys have been franchise players, so i'm sure all of them can carry the scoring load for 5 minute streches the other 2 catch some rest... Essentially they can have a top 10 player on the court at all times, it's not like us where when Dwight goes out, we're stuck with a fringe all-star level player to try to run the offense through... They will have THREE top 10 players in their prime, let that soak in. Who cares about the bench, when most likely Bron or Wade will always be on the court... fundamental basketball does not work that way, if you think one guy can carry the whole team when its scrubs playing with you on the court i would argue that point with you. when you try to play one on 5 basketball you get what has happened to the cavs for the past 2 years.......nothing

That'll mean the Heat will have to find a counter to Howard and keep him from denying the paint. Howard has also shown he can guard Bosh now, so maybe 'Shard moves to LeBron. This would at least keep LeBron out of the paint, as 'Shard still has a couple inches on him. For LeBron, hopefully Barnes will be back. Or, if he's gone, someone like him with some sort of length. For D'wade....you're right, that's kind of a problem. Hopefully VC can stay with him. We won't be able to double much, with Mike Miller lurking outside, but I think we'll have a HUGE advantage when our bench comes in. The Heat had better build GARGANTUAN leads in games because their bench....is nonexistent. The only concern I have about Shard guarding LeBron is that I don't think he has the foot speed to stay with him. I think LeBron would just blow right by him and get right to the rim. But you're right. It's definitely a gift and a curse for Miami in getting the three biggest free agents. They'll be stuck with those 3, Chalmers, Miller, D-Leaguers, and old players. They better do something about their bench because a deep bench definitely wins championships and the Lakers, for example, have shown that. i dont even think its an issue about the bench, their bench is going to suck so bad that the HC whomever it may be at the time is going to realize this and is going to play the dogcrap out of wade and lebron and they are going to fizzle as the season goes on, i dont know but that is what i see happening. we saw what happenes to lebron when he plays a ton of minutes in the playoffs so why will it be different now. plus what happens when one of the big 3 has a bad night, who is going to bring it on to score. i just dont see this working.
