Root Problem ... System or Players?

Recommended Posts

I say give Dwight one more chance with Hakeem Olajuwon and if that doesn't work make him your Super Ben Wallace. Dwight needs a guy that can dominate out on the wing. Badly.

The funny thing about all this Jameer hate is that if the Magic managed to get to the Finals, everyone would be raving about how good Nelson was as he destroyed LA.

The fact is Rondo has been pawning Jameer for the better part of two years now. The weakness of this team, has and will always be the 4 position, until the Magic decide to go into a tradtional four, they will never be able to compete with LA or Boston. Its the same problem we had with Detroit. The fact is we got Bass to play pf, and he has proved to be as ineffective at defense as Rashard Lewis.

The fact is if lewis did better than 2-8 2-6 2-10 the last 3 games we might be up 2-1

I would have personally rather seen Otiz build this team differently, but you can only criticize SVG & Otiz so much given the success Orlando has had the past 2 seasons. If Orlando is going to win a title however...

1. Magic need a more versatile front court lineup.

Stretch 4, finesse b-ball...great if your goal is to be the Pheonix Suns or Sacramento Kings & top out in the Final 4. SA had Horry, but they also had a big option. The Lakers have Odom, but they also have Bynum. This isn't something you can unleash in the Final 4 in 4 minute stretches and think you've addressed a weakness.

2. Magic need a 1 on 1 player on the wing & a more versatile offensive play book...

Just as the finesse 4 is limited, so is an entire offensive play book that consists of posting Dwight, & running pick-n-rolls.

I mean, JJ Redick is prob one of the top 5 shooters off screens in this league. He's spent 4 years with the Magic and the Magic don't even run pin downs accept as a decoy to set up entry passes to Dwight???

I admit, I thought VC would give Orlando an upgrade over Hedo because of his ability to create off the bounce, he hasn't. It's no secret Hedo was let go to give them team flexibility long term & VC was a bridge to the future. We can only hope the long term plan here gives Dwight a true running mate.

3. Magic need a better compliment to Jameer @ PG.

Love Jameer when he's pushing the ball, attacking the rim, and playing with a chip on his shoulder. But, let's be honest...he has limitations.

Same issues for 3 seasons.

As much as I would personally love to see the Magic rebuilt as the biggest, baddest team in the NBA...I think this team is simply in need of more versatility.

But im not sure he could have, he has always struggled against Boston. He has struggled all year long, he has played average at best. And Boston is just beating him up. Shard has always been somewhat soft.

thats what i'm saying. Its a players problem, not system. Shard plays like last year shard then im sure we win these games. He's on the downside of his career.

The stretch 4 concept isn't the problem. If Dwight can't dominate with a stretch four; he isn't going to dominate with a traditional one. We would be blown out in all 3 games if we played Bass and Gortat the whole time.

When I say traditional I mean a 4 who can shoot the midrange maybe step out for a three, but rebound and defend something.
