You do not replace ANOTHER "play maker" and 3pt shooter with players who provide that HUGE defensive force we need on the team. Seriously, I would rather hear about replacing JJ with Miller than replacing Pietrus/Barnes for Miller. I love our bench the way it is now, with JWill and Redick doing most of the "play making" and adding Miller to that would be worse. Sure, he's a better play maker than Redick, but he's also older, and to get rid of players that actually play defense for one that does not would be a huge mistake. ****, this itself is only as good as it is defensively because of Howard, with Pietrus and Barnes providing help on the perimeter (I would add Gortat but he usually does not play that many minutes).

The Magic are trying to build a championship-caliber team, not a team full of has-been All-Stars...

Who can Mike Miller guard that Pietrus can't?

You know what... scrap that. Who can Mike Miller guard, period? He's a sub par defensive player, and always has been.

Quoted for truth.

Guys like Pietrus and Barnes help teams win games. Mike Miller compiles stats and turns the ball over in inopportune times.

Glad you can be objective instead of subjective.

Appreciate it!

There's an inordinate amount of baseless comments in this thread. Pietrus never has, nor will he ever be, the offensive player Mike Miller was/is. Discounting one season, his final season with the Magic where he was forced upon becoming our 2nd scoring option, Mike has never shot below 43%. Pietrus, by contrast, has only shot above this clip three times in seven seasons. He isn't the playmaker Miller is, he's hardly a comparable rebounder, and comparing them as shooters is insulting.

Pietrus obviously has the edge in the defensive department, but offense? Please.

And I find it humorous that some have pulled the "loser" card into this discussion. So what, now Miller's case is harmed by circumstance? Most of his seasons as a "loser" were spent with Pau Gasol and Jason Williams. Are those guys losers, too?

My Goodness.
