Luke_FfS 249 Report post Posted September 24, 2009 quote: Could the New Jersey Nets become the Nyets? The basketball team once known as the New Jersey Americans is a step closer to being owned by Russia's richest man, Mikhail Prokhorov, who on Wednesday said he has a deal to buy 80 percent of the NBA team and nearly half of a project to build a new arena in Brooklyn. The proposed blockbuster deal would give the Nets' current principal owner, Bruce Ratner, the needed cash to move forward with the centerpiece of his Atlantic Yards development, which includes plans for retail and residential projects. It would make Prokhorov, a Russian billionaire and former amateur basketball player, the NBA's first non-North American owner. http://sports.espn.go.com/nba/news/story?id=4497411 Interesting situation. Someone on the article comments is already dreaming about LBJ in Brooklyn...

Luke_FfS 249 Report post Posted September 24, 2009 And first media reactions: quote: Mikhail Prokhorov purchased a significant ownership stake in the New Jersey Nets this week and he has the money and wherewithal to turn the franchise's prospects around. Some believe he might become a bigger recruiting tool for LeBron James to come to the Nets than Jay-Z.
Bun B 0 Report post Posted September 27, 2009 Its going to be really intersesting to see what the Nets do next summer. Now they have a new billionaire owner, a guarantee of moving to Brooklyn, a ton of money, a top 5 GM, Jay Z, and a bunch of young up and coming players. If that doesn't entice LBJ and others, idk what will. They have the perfect combination of assets at the perfect time to have them.
