I'd like to point out that Bilal went 7th; so your comment that Bilal wasn't the 6th best prospect and wouldn't go top 10 in reference to my calling the Magic take him at #6...

I'd just like to highlight this comment for when y'all doubt me next time. Lol

With that said, I like Black as a glue guy for us, similar to what Aaron Gordon became for the Denver Nuggets. Every team needs those guys who play hard every play and are okay not chucking 15 shots / night.

Related, did you all know that Black had a 39 inch vertical at the combine? Wild.

I'll be shocked and have reservations if we pick Bilal at 6.

I don't think Bilal is the 6th best prospect in this draft. I don't even think he's top 10.

Naz Reid is just about the last backup big id want. A 6'9, offense first big who we'd have to give big money to.

    Just resign Mo Wagner.

Agreed. Mo is a serviceable backup who will be on a friendly contract. If WCJ goes down, we'll adjust but shouldn't sign a high profile center to a big contact "just in case" WCJ gets hurt. There are better ways to use cap space...

On Black also, anyone who actually watched Arkansas this year would know that that was such a bad context for everything he does well. The guy expected to be their best shooter was injured or dealing with injuries the whole year. And the rest of the team were below average shooters. Of the guys who played more than 500 minutes for them Black was actually their second best 3 point shooter. The paint was always packed.

Watch an Arkansas game and count the sheer number of times Black makes the right read to an open perimeter player and they either brick the shot or flat out don't shoot the ball.

With the much better spacing of the NBA I think he gets to the rim easier and with the much better weapons of an NBA team I think he gets way more assists in a similar role.

I admittedly have not watched game tape of him outside of the highlights, so I'll take your word for it, CT. What happens in a game matters a lot more than just what the stats are at the end of the day - case in point, the guys who argue that Cole Anthony is a better starting point guard than Markelle Fultz.

I again have been proven wrong two years in a row with the pics we have made, so this management has my trust until proven otherwise.

i know, people just compare the hair which is crazy.. EP was a terrible defender, he was actually nowhere near the bball iq that Black has shown..

Ant Black took over heavy duties in that Arkansas lineup which was poised to let Nick Smith shine and score like crazy.

What happened was that Nick Smith got hurt and Black made everybody around him look like first round talent. Council, Walsh, Brazile all got hype. He was setting them up like crazy.

Then injuries started to hit that team and Black kinda went under the radar. Especially when Smith came back and tried to get his.

Black was a great pick for us in all honesty. I’m still confused what happened to Cam. I would have been mad if Cam fell to the Wizards and they would have drafted his upside. But they passed and a whole lot of teams passed on Cam.

So there must be some truth to the falling

EP was a great one on one defender as he routinely averaged 1.5+ steals per game and about half a block per game.

Payton also had a great BBIQ, so not sure where that's coming from. There's a reason he averaged almost 7 assists per game with us and was named All-Rookie 1st Team. He to this day still has the most Triple Doubles in Magic history with 8. Hardaway and McGrady only ever had two each.

I'll give you this: EP averaged an abysmal sub 60% FT shooting for most of his career, starting. Anthony Black in his one season in college averaged 70% on the line. Other than that, shoot % on 2% and 3% were relatively the same during college for both of them. So maybe with the FT% there's a glimmer of hope he'll maybe get better.

    Lol ok dude.

Let's all pretend that people are making this comparison for any other reason than the hair.

Come on, CT. You and I both know the similarities are there, and it's not just the hair.

High BBIQ, really good defender, great motor, great vision, good finisher, big and long for a PG... and can't shoot and there are red flags if he will ever be able to fix it...

If he had normal hair, I'd still have concerns. It just happens that the hair comparisons could be the same which throws the comparison to an even eerily higher degree.

This is a stat I'm very certain Elfrid Payton had as well. Ant Black is literally Elfrid Payton 2.0 is so many ways, and it's just sad that so many are convincing themselves to be excited when we all know what the limitations of having Elfrid Payton as your PG were.

  8. I have to wonder if we would have gone with one of the Thompson twins should they have dropped. Whitmore dropping was the biggest hit to us as I believe we would have taken one of them over Ant Black. It felt like there was a clear top 5, similar to 2019 when we got Mo Bamba and the top 5 had JJJ, Luka; and Trae.

I'm hoping that tier distinction is wrong.

For anyone who ends up feeling disappointed tonight by whoever we draft, just remember... you probably felt that same way when we picked Franz, and look how well that's turned out.

I was disappointed with Franz AND Paolo - so they have my full trust at this point. Until they pick bad again.

Gonna be interesting …as soon as Victor is off the board the intrigue of who’s going next kicks in …I personally think Miller fits better with the Hornets he’s super talented …but he had the issues with the law then you got reports he wasn’t in great shape for his workout …kinda red flags for me .

I think Charlotte goes Scoot …then I think Portland prefers Scoot …so what do they do ? …Looking forward to seeing it unfold

I think Miller actually fits in better with both teams with how they are currently constructed, but I think Scoot at the end of the day will be a better player.

I don't see LaMelo and Scott fitting well together at all, on or off court. If you want personality examples, I think it goes about as well as Dwight Howard and Kobe Bryant.

That’s nuts. Two first’s and KP for Smart. Typical NBA loaded deal for the chosen ones.

KP's contract isn't great and the Wiz clearly wanted to just move him to again strip their roster. My real question is how adding this KP contract affects their ability to sign Jalen Brown as they've now lost Smart.

Smart is also a great add to the Grizzlies. Hard-nosed veteran leadership is what that locker room needs, and Marcus Smart won't be afraid to get in the face of their young core to push them to be better in many facets - I'm looking in particular at Ja. Great add by them.

The Black rumours are just smart from FO, They know Wash and Utah are desperate for him. Create a bidding war then trade down.

I don't think Black fits with what we're doing. You're right that I think it's smoke as well. Really smart if so. I'm fully strapped in that we want to get Bilal and will trade back a spot or two for him.

From a historical standpoint, you’re not wrong in the board collectively overvaluing current players, however Paolo and Franz are different assets than we’ve had in a long long time. Bill Simmons NBA trade value column has Franz at 30 in the “too young, too cheap, too good.. please stop calling us” group and Paolo at 18 in the “Budding Franchise Guys” group. Bill Simmons is an anti Magic, Celtics super fan. These guys are incredible prospects at the national level, we just are too close to it regionally at the moment. Probably scorned too bad by the never ending rebuilding, but we’re so close to finally getting back to contention.
