  1. The fact is that we have a 10 man rotation of guys almost entirely under 25. We are betting on ourselves to be better than Washington and Phoenix in 3 years, and we'd much rather have whatever talent we can get in the last 1st round than 3 late 2nd round picks.

With paying Franz and Banchero, as well as Fultz and whoever else, we're going to need some good young picks to fill in the holes because we're about to have zero cap room in 3 years.

It’s not just shooting well, it’s having confidence in your shot and willingness to take the shot you have. I’ve seen multiple times when he refuses to take the shot given to him. EP 2.0.

This has been my concern for a while. The hope is, unlike Payton, he can develop a shot which the jury is very much out on. VERY possible though.

There seems to be a lot of backlash due to the team not playing Kai Sotto. I could care less, personally.

The last social media post I saw on the Magic's page was 100 comments of #PlayKaiSotto. Why we would sign him, highlight him on social media for all his rabid followers to see, and then NEVER play him even in garage time? I have to believe the guy must have a terrible attitude or something because there's no way we don't just strategically throw him out there at this point.

Nope. The Cavaliers first season with LeBron was actually very similar to Paolo's first season: "The Cavaliers lost their first five games of the season, leading them to an awful 6–19 start. However, they played .500 basketball for the remainder of the season, finishing fifth in the Central Division with a 35–47 record."

This is the kind of stat that gets me hyped for next season. I don't think Paolo is Lebron, but the parallels in this example of uncanny.

  5. Jabari Smith Jr with 38 points tonight. Obviously we know Summer league can mean nothing, but that's now 2 for 2 on good outings from JSJ, who looks much more comfortably driving and finishing vs just pulling up from deep.

Obviously happy we have Paolo but it's going to be interesting to see if JSJ turns into the offensively weapon many thought he could be here.

So long as we haven't officially announced the re-signing of Wagner we're exploring stuff we could do with our cap room. As of right now we have I think ~13mil in cap room (off the top of my head, could be wrong), as soon as we officially resign Mo that drops to ~5mil. We can use the room exception or bird rights to resign Mo so the amount of cap room we have left won't matter to retain him.

I've thought about this too. It gives me hope that there is something else we're attempting to do behind the scenes. That Tyler Herro rumor is the only thing jumping to my mind unless there is a different trade or player signing that we're looking at.

  7. AB is the ultimate glue guy you want on your team. I don't expect much out of this Magic SL team, but I'm hopeful AB continues to grow his offensive game while showing those clear defensive and game-flow instincts that you just can't teach.

If I can nitpick though, AB's handle needs to get a lot tighter. He's enough of an athlete I think we'll be fine, but both his handles and shot (which he's shown is improving) need to improve for him to be a starter in this league.

    - Amen is impressive - if he gets the ball

    - Cam isn’t playing smart basketball - he thinks he’s a number 1 option

    - Jabari got hot in the second half - still don’t like how Houston utilizes him. Maybe Udoka changes things in Houston

    - Eason is going to be an elite role player

Overall Houston is a talented crew, but the character of that team is going to be a problem. I don’t see a team growing together. I see a bunch of „me first“ players, playing alongside

    - Portland has a bright future

    - Scoot is a star, no doubt. Future All Star for sure. He’s different. Also played highly efficient before getting injured

    - Sharpe is also a star. Nor doubt! He can really develop into a ultra athletic Devin Booker. He’s so skilled.

I think Udoka is a good coach to put together these pieces as he did a good job doing so in Boston - but I agree: Tons of talent and will take a Denzel in Remember the Titans type of inspiration to get these "me first" players to buy in and play cohesively.

Love that Harden's bluff was called by Philly. Reports today indicate Ime didn't ever want him in Houston, so Harden and his agent were leaking that to the media. Having watched the intensity and team play of the finals the last few years, I doubt Harden ever wins a ring. He's too into iso ball, seems to wilt in the playoffs, and doesn't seem to be a team guy.

Selfish, me-first guys at the end of the day won't win rings in today's NBA. They'll sell jerseys but won't win rings. Harden is a prime example of that.

Either we just flat out weren't interested (most likely) or he prioritized a spot he thought could be an immediate contender.

Side note: Dallas have had a great off-season so far. Used the draft to get Lively, the full MLE and OMax Prosper who I think might be able to contribute immediately. Then kept Kyrie which realistically they had to do and added Grant Williams, Seth Curry and Dante Exum who might be a sneaky good addition. And possibly they'll add Thybulle also with the MLE depending on if Portland match. It's not blockbuster but they've added a bunch of defense and some shooting around Luka/Kyrie.

I imagine Williams wanted to start, which he wasn't going to do here. Might have been a deal-killer from the get-go as I would have rather had Williams at $14M / year than an aging Ingles at $11M / year. Or maybe for the Magic it really was about keeping cap flexibility as our core players come off their rookie deals.

  11. I imagine the tournament in December is to break up the open of the season (which sees a lot of viewership) with the All-Star festivities. Having it too close to either would likely lessen viewership, but I do agree that you're only like 30 games in at that point and it feels weird.

Stirring the pot. Seriously does anyone on this board think we made the wrong move on this twig?

I think Banchero is a more surefire star for many years to come, but Chet has (and still does have) a higher ceiling but a ton more risk.

If Chet plays 65+ games each of the next 10 seasons, there's a good chance that he could become a better player than Paolo, but my belief (and many others) is that he'll play 65+ games for maybe 2-3 seasons in the next 8-10, continuing to struggle with injuries with his thin, stretched frame.

I hope for the sake of the NBA, he stays healthy, because he seems like a good kid and would be very fun to watch.

I think the key here from the demeanor of these two is that the Magic continue to care about character. They continue to pick good, humble learners whom will gel well with a team and will ultimately make on court decisions that seek to win as a team above achieving personal glory.

I really like whom we have and I hope the base of characters we're drafting turns into a winning formula. Can't wait for summer league!

I've always seen Bol Bol as a player who makes some individual highlight reels but is consistently lacking when it comes to team defense or playing with the flow of an offense.

I think everyone sees Bol Bol's potential, but basketball is a game of small victories over the course of 48 minutes, and whether it's a lack of rebounding at his size, tunnel vision offense, or otherwise, multiple teams have now passed on him and there's clearly a reason why.
