    2022-2023 Draft Thread

I can see us trading #11 for a future 1st and a 2nd rounder. Something like that unless it's someone we really, really like - of which we'll then trade one of our young assets.

Basically the question for everyone here is "Who is getting minutes who doesn't deserve them / will be phased out?" I don't think you keep all 4 of Kelle/Suggs/Cole/Harris and draft a guard, and as a forward we have some room for backup minutes, but if Franz/Paolo/JI/WCJ are all healthy, it started to get tight - and you certainly don't draft someone at #6 expecting them to be a backup in 3 years. Therefore, I too am led to believe we will throw in some pieces for a big "fit" piece to play along our non-moveable core before or during draft night. Too many upside young pieces in need of minutes already on this team.

After last year, I am convinced nothing that comes out of a good Gm's office is unintentional. There's equal chance this is real and equal chance they don't actually like him but want to worry any team behind them who loves him and might want to trade up.

The deal makes sense for both teams, but I think more for the Wizards than the Suns. The Wizards needed to get bad faster to start rebuilding, and that contract is arguably the worst in the NBA, no trade clause included. They were staying in the 7-12 range with Beal. Blow it up and get a top 5 pick the next 3 years and give yourself a chance to build as others have.

Would much rather have Ingram than Zion who is a great athlete but can't stay healthy and has a questionable work ethic / leadership capacity. Zion I think in the end will be an Andrew Wiggins player - he'll never be THE guy, but could be a great #2 or #3 scoring option on a good team.

Lamelo would annoy the hell out of Durant, Booker, AND Beal. Lamelo is the epitome of immaturity on and off the court. He would be helped by being around veterans as he has a lot of talent and could use some mature guidance, but you don't bring a risk like that into your locker room when you're trying to win a championship.

There is no world where we trade for Zion. If we do, I'll buy this entire board drinks at the next Magic game event we do.

I'm still of the opinion Charlotte trades Scoot + other assets for Zion. Charlotte needs a big to run with LaMelo.

I have to question whether I would be want us to trade Markelle, 6, and 11 for Scoot. I would trust management, but I really think Markelle is much better as a floor general that brings out the best in others than what his stats would indicate. Crazy because I think many here would do that trade in a heartbeat and I don't think Charlotte even does that deal.

Even with all that shooting Talent, I still don't see them beating the team of the Denver Nuggets. Too much non-complementary play, and the support cast / 2nd unit will be a bunch of rookies and vet mins. With that said, I don't expect any team to agree to another "no trade" clause like this. The return for Beal, a bonafide top 30 player in this league, was effectively nothing, especially compared to that of recent trades like Gobert, Durant, etc.

I'm fully prepared and will be ok. WeltHam has earned my trust the last 3 drafts.

I'm thinking we would benefit the other parties from both having multiple 1st's, taking on salary (which we can do), AND contributing salary (most notably Jonathan Isaac's contract). We have a lot more flexibility than most teams. We're a perfect 3rd party team. Make something happen WeltHam!!

The no trade clause basically holds the Wizards hostage to wherever Beal wants to go. If he wants Phoenix, he'll reject anyone else. Crazy that this could be forced.

I think Herro is a perfect compliment to this team. Would love to have him

They waived Paul and doubt Paul sign and trades to go to the Wizards. I would assume Ayton - but honestly, what 1st round picks do they have left to give after the Brooklyn trade?

    2022-2023 Draft Thread

I don't think there's a package we could offer that doesn't give up 3 1st round picks to get #2 or #3 to draft him, but if we believe that's who he has a chance to become, you take that. I don't think our picks in the next 3+ years are in the lottery anyway, so go all in and get your guy unless we believe just as much in #6.

    2022-2023 Draft Thread

The problem is we haven't worked Scoot out (but I guess that didn't stop us from drafting Paolo), but if the hype is real, I do this all day. Guy has a Jordan/Kobe/Westbrook killer mentality with elite athleticism. With that said, I think it takes more than that to get Charlotte to trade the #2 pick.

    2022-2023 Draft Thread

I honestly think this works for both teams. NO is looking to move on from Zion, where the relationship has begun to get strained as he can't stay healthy (and seemingly isn't willing to mature and try) and Charlotte's new ownership is looking to make a splash and don't really care about drama (point in case, making Lamelo Ball the face of their franchise). This is a good trade for both teams as Scoot Henderson I think makes for a greater core with CJ McCollum and Brandon Ingram and is clearly the #2 in the draft over Brandon Miller - and Scoot and Lamelo's style's wouldn't gel at all. I'm giving this a 65% likelihood to get done. It makes that much sense.

I'm seeing 250-1 on Orlando to win the East

Someone explain to me the payout here (I bet $10, I get... $2,500?). I might put money down if the risk is worth it prior to the draft. If we move up for a player like Scoot, I think we could be top 4 depending on what we give up.

We know literally nothing about the draft outside of pick #1. A lot of smoke is normally just that as managements have learned to be selective with what they leak. Excited for this draft but won't believe anything until it actually happens.

Guys work out on their own with their own trainers during the off-season, so I'm not worried. With that being said, I always thought it was really cool when Jameer put on a "Team Camp" during the summers to increase team chemistry on and off the court. I hope someone brings that back.

It's as good a guess as anyone's what happens in 10 days. So many options with so many implications for the future, particularly with the new CBA cap. Draft night can't come soon enough!

    2023 NBA Playoffs Thread

What I love about Denver is they had a really well-built TEAM. No "let's sign the best players and put just anyone around them." This was intentionally built and complimentary pieces - like AG - were added along the way. This is the blueprint for the Magic to follow. Excited for what the future holds!

Paolo is 20 years old and was a high school QB who its said could have gone farther (6'8" as a freshman) but chose basketball for obvious reasons. He has great court vision that will only get better as the game slows down. I'm fully of the belief that if the offense runs through him he can average at least 7-8 assists per game with a good movement offense around him.

I want to be making a deep playoff run by that point. Pass.
