2018-19 Official Season Discussion Thread

Bump. The science is there. -
Something has to be adjusted with the DJ-Vooch PnR coverage. It’s one thing when Kemba or Lillard are eviscerating it, but it’s quite another when George Hill figures it out and tortures you.

Not sure why that posted twice.

Fournier is so *****ing brutal it hurts

Can't describe how disappointing it will be if we come out with poor energy tonight and lose. Everyone is aware that inconsistency and poor performances have been an issue. It's been pinpointed. Time to actively buck that trend. -

Yeah I had posted this exact thing on the article and he’s already changed it. No mention of the Knicks anymore. I get that his thing is being snarky and ****ting on bad teams, but felt like I had to call him out for that one. Making an error or misquoting something is no big deal, but doing it after you gloat about having no reason to watch just makes you seem kind of lame. -

Zach Harper in his power rankings today: ”I cannot think of a single reason to watch anything this team is doing right now. During this boom of offense as NBA coaches and players take advantage of the Freedom of Movement emphasis, the Magic just barely cleared a 100.0 offensive rating with their win over the Knicks on Sunday.” Seems like a pretty bad look to basically admit you don’t watch them in the first sentence and then be citing a completely different game/team in the next. -

Pretty sure I'd do that. My homer glasses might be blinding me but if WAS continues to be a dumpster fire, it might not even take all 4 of those assets. -

I don't know that I would take Wall for anything. Bad attitude, injury history, historically bloated contract. I would prefer almost any other option TBH. -

You guys, I figured it out. There’s nothing to worry about. Last year we started 6-2 based largely on unsustainably great shooting, then everything turned completely around and we lost 74% of our remaining games, finishing 25-57. This year we’re going to start 2-6 based largely on unsustainably bad shooting, but then we’ll turn it around and win 74% of our remaining games, finishing 57-25. Easy! -
Don't disagree. I think anything should be on the table with respect to lineup changes right now. I also think Fournier will get out of his slump, but I'm not even sure his shooting is what's hurting us the most right now. It's a) his inability to see teammates/plays develop right in front of him (he missed about 4 cutters for uncontested layups last night and prioritized finding his own shot) and b) his tendency to hang his head and take himself out of the game when things aren't going well. I honestly feel like if he focused on elevating his teammates and creating some positive energy, the shooting would come back quicker. But that just doesn't seem like part of his personality. He's so competitive that I think he feels the need to carry the offense and then ends up pressing. Probably doesn't help that no one else can.

As much as I love Ross, who supplies a lot of hustle & glue, he isn't the answer either. I wouldn't mind seeing him start but I don't think it changes much, especially long-term. He is just so streaky and will shoot us out of just as many games as he shoots us in (if not more). He needs to learn what a good shot looks like b/c he relies on too many crowded, fading, contorted jumpers. But I mean Fournier is a train wreck right now.

Jesus, it is as bad as I thought it was. Adding to this, for the season we are 28/106 on "open" 3s (26.4%), 38/105 on "wide open" 3s (36.2%) -- totaling 66/211 on open or wide open 3s (31.2%).

The problem is tanking isn't worth it anymore starting with this draft. Even if we finish with the worst record, we have a ~50% chance to get a pick between 1 and 4 and a ~50% chance of the 5th pick specifically. Meanwhile, if we finish with the 6th worst record, we have a ~37% chance of a pick between 1 and 4. That's not really a significant difference, IMO. We've consistently drafted at or worse than our expected position given the odds since the Oladipo draft. The new system only compounds the likelihood that that continues to happen for teams. It will be cruel if we continue to be awful, yet can't obtain a high enough pick because the odds have improved for worse teams now -- but that is a real possibility.

Losing to a mediocre team on a cross-country B2B while we are rested is pretty inexcusable. How professional basketball players can miss that many wide open looks — no idea. Even if we get acutely worse (we may not) by shipping out Vuc and Fournier, we need to do so for the culture change. Fournier especially just drops his head when things don’t go his way.
