IMO Suggs is better than either of them by quite a bit. I think he could start right out the gate. I do question why he is rated so much higher than Davion "bad day" Mitchell though? His D makes the PG he is guarding have a very bad day.

Whoever we pick we need at least 2 guys that can throw the round ball in the hole and score points at a decent percentage. No more projects please!

the grass always seems greener. Let suggs play in the league first before claiming he is better than anyone. I like him and would not mind taking him, but I am not going to place him above cole or fultz until till he does something in the NBA first.

With two days until the draft, I’d be interested to hear what everybody’s realistic dream draft would be?

To prevent the same response, let’s assume trading up isn’t an option.

Dreaming: Trade up for green and also keeping our 8th pick. We give up our bulls future first and this years 2nd rounder. The, we pick up moody at 8th.

Realistically: we get either suggs/barnes at 5th. Then we get either moody/bouknight with 8th.

Nightmare: We do a dumb trade and we lose someone that becomes an allstar on a different team. cole/okeke/fultz/issac... etc...

Should be in draft discussion. I'm more worried about what veterans we have going into next season on this thread. We simply cannot just throw 8 to 9 rookie and second year players into the mix. That's what we did last time. We need an alpha dog.

Even if we are super bad next year we need a player that is a leader. It's too late on the coaching level. Coaches do not play and we don't have a savant anywhere on the coaching or management staff.

This is one reason I think we are looking to move up in the draft. During one of the past drafts, we punted (traded) a 1st round pick we had. Management said they wanted a balance of young players and vets. They also said in the post that they did not want too many young player at once. Therefore, I think we are looking to package picks/players to move up in the draft to get the best talent, but also to not bring in too many younger players at once.

My biggest fear is that we give up too many assets in a dumb trade. I would rather hold on to the 5th and the 8th, then to see a bad trade.

I would hate to lose Chuma, but I would do that deal with Detroit. My question is, would we be better served trading the 5th pick and a player for Green? We need scoring.

I think chuma is going to be a stud. Please he fills a area of weakness (shooting). He is a much better scorer than people know as well. I would rather keep the 5th and 8th in the draft. People are saying this is one of the deepest draft in history so we will see.

I do think if we trade, it would be one of our 3 point guards. I dont want to lose cole either.

  5. The gordon trade was okay. I like Harris. I have also heard people speaking highly on RJ, though I did not like him in the draft. I hated the vuch trade and I do think we gave Evan way. I think we should have gotten more for Evan. I really need to see what picks we end up with before passing final judgement. Porter can also be good, if we sign him to a much better contract. I do like our young future. I also thought that this would be the year to tank for picks, because it was shorter and Isaac got hurt.

The missed up thing is that aaron finally started to look good with better usage. Too bad he requested a trade.

Last I read Aminu was close to a return. I know he had to have some 'minor' surgery a month or two ago to fix a recurring problem where his knee swelled after working out, haven't seen anything else about him having a further set back.

I think it's hard to be critical about something like the training staff because there are so many variables that we can't know and the training staff can't control. And this could quite well be just extraordinary bad luck.

not sure if he will make a difference. He was not great when health. He did not look good last year, with the mins he had.

Okeke should not be playing...even Clark is better

I think he makes solid basketball plays. He is a rookie so it will take time. He needs to take his open shots. He is also good at keeping the ball moving. I was surprised that he was a good ball handler. He has more overall talent than clark. it is just too early because of limited practice time for rookies.

Our bench has been great this year.

First of all, I acknowledge as I must that I'm not as knowledgeable as you guys ... but I got a question: is Markelle way of playing last night, making himself the Magic's main and principal shooter, the way y'all would want him to play every game? is it the way a PG is expected to play? or would he be expected to share the ball more often (21 FG attempts and only 2 assists)? there probably were more passes that, had his team mate scored, could have become assists ... and maybe his play last night was contingent upon the way the Wizards were playing him, and him taking advantage ... what do y'all think?

he needs to take what teams gives him. If they dont double him, he needs at abuse them in the paint and get easy buckets. Then, it will open the passing lanes. He shot 52%. yes, keep scoring please. We have needed good pg play for a while.

The point guard play and bench has been the difference so far.  It has been a weakness for a while. Good to see pg play turnaround so far. Let us see fultz continue to earn that contract he got.

Agree.  And that’s a lot to expect from two middle first round pick rookies who are both coming back from long layoffs, and also hoping Isaac doesn’t get injured again after he returns.  Seems like a lot needs to go right for us to improve.  Stranger things have happened, though, and at least it gives us something to root for.

They are both middle range but they were projected to be 10 top in the past. Therefore, I think they can produce. I like what I have seen so far.

So here is my take on the pre-season and how it impacts going forward. I think Cole Anthony had  a really good pre-season considering 1) he hasn't played since March, and 2) none of the rookies had much of a camp. I think he immediately slides into the backup PG role, and helps bring the energy that they have sometimes lacked. His offensive ability and mindset should take some of the pressure off of TRoss, hopefully allowing him to become more efficient and effective - possibly also allowing TRoss to expend a little more effort on the defensive end as well. Hopefully, the return of Ennis will move Bacon back to the second unit and that should also contribute to the offensive punch of that second unit. I expect Bacon to be better against backups than he was starting. I do still have some hope for Bamba, and I think playing with Anthony and a more up-tempo second unit will either make or break him. Hopefully it will force him to get in the shape necessary to keep up, and play with the energy he frequently lacks. Anthony is the type of push-the-pace guard that will get Bamba easy transition buckets and good position/mis-matches if he steps up. I truly hope he does, otherwise I think he will be off this team next year.

I find it interesting that what should be a position of strength for us (PF) is currently probably our weakest spot due to injuries. With Isaac out for the year, Aminu still in recovery mode (and not very good last year before the injury), Clark being really inconsistent as a bench player, and Okeke being a rookie/coming off an injury/not having played in a year and a half, it is the position of concern in the short-term. I did see some positives from Okeke, and I think he will be given time to recover/grow into the backup PF role, and maybe even some backup SF. I think we will see the same conservative, low-pressure approach for him that we saw them take with Fultz. I wouldn't even be surprised to see him spend a little time with Lakeland to get him more court time with less pressure. I know we haven't really seen it yet, but if Birch did add a three-point shot he may grab some of the backup PF minutes. I don't like the Vuc/Birch front court, but Clifford seems to. So here is where I see our rotation going once we get some guys healthy:

    Fultz/Anthony/MCW

    Fournier/MCW/Bacon

    Ennis/TRoss/Okeke

    Gordon/Okeke/Aminu/Clark

    Vucevic/Bamba/Birch

I think we see a lot of 3-guard lineups for the second unit with Anthony/MCW/Bacon/TRoss all getting regular minutes. I think Clark may start out getting most of the PF backup minutes to start the season, but dropping to the end of the bench as Okeke gets into shape/the swing of the season and whenever Aminu comes back. I don't expect to see Isaac this season at all. Once we get to the trade deadline, I think we may see some guys gone for whatever we can get.

Fournier might be of interest for a contending team as a 3rd/4th option or even as a 6th man/scorer from the bench. With his expiring contract I wouldn't expect us to get much back, but who knows. A contending team might pay more, but I wouldn't expect much more than a mid-first, or a young guy and a late-first to be offered. I think Aminu or Clark will probably be headed out at the deadline as well. I think that will greatly depend on Okeke's development and AG's health whether either or both remains with the team.

Frankly, I don't think Ennis and Clark both would have been re-signed if Aminu and/or Okeke had been closer to playing, and if Isaac and AG hadn't gone down. I think Clark got a contract strictly based on his play in the bubble, and the number of front-court injuries. I think we might have brought Ennis back, but I think Clark would have been gone - he is a cheap insurance/fill in while guys are recovering.

This front-office does seem to be giving us a clear indication that they are going to try to improve via internal growth, and/or "reclamation" projects. We have a lot of guys on our team who it can be argued have "under-performed" in their careers/in the draft so far due to injury.

Both Okeke and Anthony were projected to be top-10 (top-5?), but fell in the draft. Fultz, Isaac, and Bamba have all had sub-par careers to date. All five of these have had injury issues. Bacon had a pretty good first year in Charlotte, but fell off in the second year; and MCW was a former rookie of the year who was completely out of the league at one point. Ennis only cost us a second-round pick, and Clark was a waiver-wire pick up. Again, four more guys other teams had given up on.

That is nine guys out of the fifteen on the regular roster. That is a lot of "reclamation" projects on one team, and yet we have still managed to make the playoffs the last two years with this strategy. I'm not sure whether to be impressed or appalled at the fact 60% of our current team consists of this category of player. Having guys who have something to prove/a chip on their shoulders seems to be a point of emphasis for them. We'll see how it works out. It could be a very interesting season.

I agree. Our future will depend on the growth of our young players: lead by fultz, Isaac, Anthony, and Okeke. If they dont continue to improve and/or produce, the team will fall flat on its face.

I think Aminu did have surgery back in January, about a month after the injury. They did try the "just let it heal" approach first. They may just be cautious with the rehab process - that does seem to be their default setting, not rushing players back.

He was bad anyway. Give the young guys burn

Fultz was first on the team in pick and roll possessions per game and second on the team in pick and roll frequency (behind Augustin not Fournier).

It felt like he came down passed it to a wing. We will see when season starts. I have most the past game recorded and he was not aggressive enough. I will check some replays

What’s nice is our team is fully in the hands of Fultz now. Yes, vets will get minutes, but we will sink or swim with Fultz’s development. And to have Anthony right behind him even makes the year more interesting.

Yes. It will be up to the playmakers. I also think the coach will be a major factor.  I want fultz attacking and not settling to give the ball to Fournier. I don't want fultz sitting in the corner on offense. He needs high usage. Him and cole need the green light to attack the basket constantly. Let playmakers make plays

If Bamba hasnt improved Im calling it over for him. Hopefully Okeke will be good so we dont have to see aminu.

I looked up mo bomba's scouting report and all of his negatives are still glaring now in the nba. He still has low energy an a motor that is hot and cold. With someone that gets less than 18 minutes a game, I don't understand if he truly wants to be a nba player. If he doesn't show more energy on the court, the best players in the world will eat him alive.
