You guys have to understand with guys like McCollum, you want him because he averages 20 ppg. But you don't get to port over his numbers. You have to plug him into the rest of our rotation. McCollum has averaged 21ppg over the past 3 seasons but needed 18.3 shots per game to get those shots.

If he only got 16 shots per game and his scoring dropped to 18.5 ppg would you still view him as a big addition? Because that's what's likely to happen when he comes here. Because in Portland he's in a system where he and Dame get every shot they can take and their center is the only other player who gets 10 shots per game. It's a two option offense. Here we spread it out more which hampers everyone's numbers.

Additionally, McCollum has been a less efficient scorer than Fournier for a while now. He got this reputation as an elite offensive player during the 16-17 season when he hit 51% of his twos, 42% of his threes, and 91% of his free throws. But that was just an outlier season.

Since that season he's hit 48% of his twos, 38% of his threes, and 83% of his free throws. That seems trivial. But 4% on three point shooting is the difference between the average team last year and the best team last year. It's the difference between being a top 15 shooter and a top 55 shooter.

So consider these things when you blow up the team to get a guy like that.

McCollum is a phenomenal scorer. 48%, 38%, and 83% is not bad on volume shooting. He would be the best scorer we would of had in a long time.

I like him a lot. He does not fit our size and length plan and that is really the only issue. I dont think evan is a better player than McCollum, so I guess we will have to agree to disagree.

I do like evan's size and ablity to play both SG and SF. McCollum size reminders me of why we choose Evan over Victor. I think some would like to have Victor back, but that is another story.  McCollum can also play PG. I am more so giving different ideas.

His defense is quite bad.  A big reason Doncic did go off is because Vooch plays his PnR coverage extremely poorly against guards who get into the paint.  He keeps dropping and never commits.  The Doncic floaters in the 2nd half that Vooch defended were almost comical in the way Nik kept backing up -- he gave Luka a free pass right to the front of the rim.

I think that is what cliff wanted to give up. I think it was the coverage call. Personally, I would have blitz or trapped, but I think that is sometimes by design. The truth is, our defense is not the issue. It is the 30th offense in the league. Our defense has been good and vuch has not been the issue there. He closes out our defensive possessions with this rebounds in and out of space. He is long and can get in passing lanes.  He is fine on defense. We need to fix the offense by yesterday.

(Dont get me wrong. Our shooting as a team is the reason we have lost a lot of games. That is not on the coach. I blame the players in not hitting open shots. Though, I do think our pgs can get us easier shots.)

Why is keeping Vuc on an even more diminished offensive role seen as a good thing or the preferred option?

I like the ball going through vuc, but sometimes it is not a good option in the post because of the matchups. Marc gasal is an example of a bad match up for vuch. In that type of match up we need pick and roll or pick and pop with a play maker like fultz or MCW. We are not using our PGs good enough. They can create offense for everyone. I hate when Cliff talks about Fultz because he tells us how great he is in the lane and with the ball. I dont want to hear words, show us by calling his number 20 times a game to make plays. Increase fultz usage rate and let see what happens. Tell the kid to attack the rim down hill. I dont want his usage to be bring the ball up, pass to someone, and sit in the corner. Give me some kemba walker plays on multiple positions.

I know you have the plays cliff. Dont play with me.

I wouldn't want to risk anything substantial for Hayward given that there's a chance he walks next summer and Hayward is a good but not franchise changing player.

This is less about "let's build around Hayward" and more about "let's get off of Vucevic's contract while not losing a long term piece and not downgrading our offensive talent while also maintaining future flexibility given he expires at the right time"

i have been consistent about liking Vuc. I like him as a piece for us. I like what he does and dont think his defense is as bad as advertised. I wanted to resign him and happy we did. I think we need to build on Vuc, Isaac, Gordon, Fultz, and ross. Outside of horrific shooting,  I do think some of the issue has been coaching.

In the half court, I think the coach could use fultz better. I think we have not continued to go to the hot hand on offense. example, gordon having like 19pt vs dallas in first half and we barely go to him in the second half. That is on the coach and play calls made. We should have had continued to attack with gordon. We need to continue to find our gamely miss matches and feed the hot hand. I think   Doncic does not go off in the second half if we dont allow him to rest by not attacking with gordon. It just common since. Feed the person who has been scoring and has the best match up. We fail at that so we fail to score and we fail to win.

So the way I'm looking at things I have no idea if they'd be interested in a Hayward for Vucevic trade. I have no idea if we'd be interested in Hayward

But I'm pretty confident they're going to move Hayward.

We know from the past that they really like Vucevic.

So that's the thought process. But I don't know. Maybe Indiana offers Turner and Warren and that becomes a more appealing deal for them.

that would be a good trade for boston but I think turner and warren would be way too much. I think the pacers look at turner as a big big piece for them.

They saw Bledsoe flop and still upheld it. Laughable....

it is a joke. the refs are just trying to save face. It is getting to the point that New York will need to look at challenges because the court refs can not make unbiased decisions. You made a bad call. Do not make it worse buy doubling down on another bad decision. It comes down to pride sometimes. These refs need to be humbled.

Believe it or not, Fultz is the guy with the best FG % in the whole team

we have an astonishing 4 players under 40% (ross is even under 30%) and our usually high % bigs are at 39% -bamba-, 41% -vucevic- or 44% -gordon and isaac-

Yes, fultz does well finishing at the basket and making good plays in the lane. We just need to run more plays for him to do it.

The shooting thing is just really unfortunate and I can't get over it.  Everyone having career-worst slumps simultaneously leads us to a 2-6 start rather than a 5-3, 6-2, 7-1 start.

The worst part for me with these shooting woes going on has been just flat out knowing that we have essentially 0 chance of making an important crunch time go-ahead basket right now.  Even with the ball and only a 1 point deficit last night I didn't ever feel like we were going to score.  We've wilted in crunch time now in every loss except Milwaukee. 5 of 6 losses with a chance to win late.  Let's recap:

Atlanta -- Tie game, 1:30 left.  Fournier missed 3.  Vucevic blocked at the rim by Huerter (my god).  Fournier missed 3.  Game.
Toronto -- Up 1, 3:03 left.  Ross missed 3.  Fultz missed 3.  Toronto now up 97-91.  Game.
Denver -- Down 1, 3:00 left.  We get a steal, but then Isaac runs into Fultz to create our own turnover in transition.  Next possession we dribble around doing nothing, Fournier ends up with the ball with 4 left on the shotclock, and instead of trying to do anything, jacks a 32 footer -- brick.  Isaac missed 3.  Fournier makes 2.  Now we're down 3 with the ball, but Vooch commits on offensive foul.  Game.
OKC -- Down 1, 4:40 left.  Gordon missed 3.  Markelle turnover.  Gordon offensive foul.  Now down 8 with 1:56 left.  Game.
Dallas -- we all saw what happened.

We were supposed to make progress in late game execution after last year.  Instead, so far this team looks like the early Tobias/Oladipo teams that found ways to lose on so many occasions.  And it is just made so much worse knowing that even if we shot "below average" rather than "historically awful", we might be in position to be able to make these mistakes and still win.

I agree. We also need ross healthly because he was a big factor for us last year.

So did Gordon act out at the end of the game because he's pissed at his teammates?

Went 9-11 in the first half with the offense being deliberately run through him. The third quarter he had no offense run through him and all 4 shot attempts was someone dumping it off to him with 3 seconds left on the shot clock forcing him to take contested jumpers. He didn't get a legitimate fga until 2 minutes left in the game.

I think it is more on coaching. The coach does not seem to tell the team to ride plays until they are stopped. It is my main issue with fultz. If you are calling fultz our best playmarker and perpetrator why are you giving Fournier (the black hole ) the ball. Why is fultz crossing half court, passing, and sitting in the corner?

The coach needs to make sure we are feeding the hot hand and giving the players with the best playmaking ability the ball.  Our best player makers have been vuc, fultz, gordan, and MCW.

I am still waiting on ross to show up and Evan to pass more.

  10. Game 41: Dallas: Fultz did great getting in the lane. He had a nice lobe to Gordon and he played good overall. He is shooting very well from the FT line and I still want the team to give him the ball more. The bad thing this game for Fultz was JJ barea. Though, the bigs did not help Fultz on a lot of the screens. JJ give fultz buckets.  It was a turning point in the game.

Not saying I wouldn't want the guy, but with AG and JI, wouldn't Bogdanovic give us a log jam at SF/PF?

I am not a Mo fan. Bogdanovic is more of a sg/sf. He has not shot well this year but I like him. I am not giving up a pick. We would need the pick. There is a big age difference between mo and bodgdanovic. Though I dont like mo, I dont want to get older. He is one of our young pieces. If we get a 1st round pick. I would do it. Otherwise, I would pass.

Ross and Fournier are better than Bogdanovic.

    No Augustine?

i want to see MCW as the pg. Augustine has not impressed me this year. His offensive production has not justified his defensive short comings. I need more offensive production from him, if he is going to be on the court. If he is going to shot 40% fg and 26.3 3p%, we just need to play mcw. (Dj did have a good game last night vs dallas but I just think MCW is has more impact.)

Birch has been pretty bad so far.

There starting lineup played really well.

We keep playing an all bench lineup that doesn't work because we're not getting enough offense out there with MCW, aminu, and Birch at the same time.

Think it might make more sense to play Fournier in lineups like augustin-mcw-Fournier-Isaac or Gordon-Birch and aminu when Vucevic plays with the bench.

I think you have something against mcw. you called him a bad player in the past and you keep saying we are not getting things from him. MCW has been a difference maker on the court. He has really been our best PG and the best player off the bench. (Since Ross has been a no show.) He is the most energetic on the team, second best defender, and he has even been scoring. The only thing holding MCW back is playing time and coaching. I would personally like to see him play back up pg more mins.

starters: vuc, isaac, fultz, gordon, fournier

    bench: mcw, ross, cheif, moe

  14. Game 40: OKC: Fultz had one of his better games. He was aggressive shooting and pushing the ball. He played with good energy. He had like 3 rebounds in the 1st 5mins. He took ten shots in the flow of the offense. He did not pass up shot. Good game for him. Now we just need to get a win with him as a starter. 50% shooting.

  15. game 39: Fultz got his first start on the magic. He played well on def and had a few nice plays on offense. Cliff needs to put fultz more in pick and rolls. He got a few steals and ran the offense. There was key turnover by fultz that hurt us late. But over all, he looked good with the starters. Cliff needs to run the offense more though fultz. When he gets in the lane good things happen for the team.
