Could be the end for a lot of guys

If Memphis is going to move anyone its going to be Gay and his contract - not Mayo. They have seen that they can play at a high level and in many Griz fans better - without Gay....and for a hell of a lot cheaper plus Gay can net them real $ savings if thats what they want

Could be the end for a lot of guys

why would they need to resign him? OJ Mayo is signed thru the summer of 2012 and already has a qualifying offer of $7.5M through 2013. If they do anything with Mayo it certainly wont happen until at earliest trade deadline next year but truthfully any semi intelligent GM waits until after other teams set a price when he becomes a RFA and at minimum do S/T...the only way Memphis trades him prior to that is for an upgrade not salary dump - and now that they are likely making a deep playoff run and he's been a big part - so that's even more unlikely than it already was

if Dwight decides not to sign and Magic do not trade him this is our potential line up in 2012/13 if all options are picked up: Nelson (TO) / Arenas (PO) / Duhon JJ (TO) / Hedo / Q Bass (TO) / /Orton based on current CBA: ** if no (TO) team options are picked up Magic are at $45M (this year cap is $58M) = $13M + MLE ($6M) + LLE ($2M) = $21M to fill 6-8 rotation spots including 3-4 starters. ** if no (TO) team options or (PO) player options-Arenas are picked up Magic are at $24M = $33M + MLE + LLE = $41M to fill 6-8 rotation spots including 3-4 starters + any of these can be added if options are picked up --- cap space/roster spot would need to be adjusted accordingly * Nelson (TO) = $7M * Bass's (TO) = $4M * Redick (TO) = $6M also: *Ryan Anderson would be a Restricted FA so he could be resigned without using exceptions but we'd have to match offers. *Magic traded away their 2011 1st round draft pick but still have 2011 second round and both 2012 picks.

here is a comparison of what the teams got from the two recent scenarios for teams faced with losing a franchise player (Denver/Cleveland) Cleveland (19 - 63) * First round pick (top 5) because of terrible 10-11 season * 2 First round picks (25-30 range) available from 2013-2017 from Heat * Second round picks (30 - 60 range) from NO 2014 * $16M trade exception from Miami - to get a second 1st round pick in 2011 (6-10 range from LAC) they were forced to take on B Davis' remaining 2yr/$28M and trade away two expiring contracts (Mo William and Jamario Moon) - in 2012/13 (three summers after Lebron) they will finally be under the cap but will only have 1 player on roster (A Verajao) and possibly (B Davis/R Sessions) ... so they will have to pick up contracts to fill roster in spots as only 1-3 roster spots will likely be filled by draft - in 2011 (2 summers after Lebron) Cavs roster looks like this: B Davis / R Sessions Gibson/ Gee/ Ayenga/Graham JJ Hickson/ A Jameson A Verajao/ R Hollins / S Erden ------------------ Denver (50 - 32) * First Round pick (17-30 range) playoff team Knicks (2014) * 2 Second Round picks (31-60 range - likely mid - high 30's) 2012 and 2013 from Golden State * Raymond Felton - first round #5 / 2005 (6-1 PG) 2010/11: 16 ppg / 8 apg / 4rpg / 16.7 PER * Danillo Galinari - first round #6 / 2008 (6-10 SF/PF) 2010/11: 16 ppg / 2 apg / 5 rpg / 15.7 PER * Wilson Chandler - first round #23 / 2007 (6-8 SF) 2010/11: 15 ppg / 2 apg / 6 rpg / 14.7 PER * Tim Mozgov - 7'1" Euro never entered draft but if so likely would have been a mid to late lottery pick - in the trade they lost vet starting PG Chauncey Billups w/exp $, unused 3d string sf/pf R Balkman, exp min contract of bk up C Sheldon Williams, vet 3d string PG A Carter - in summer of 2011 (1 summer after Melo) Nuggets will be $17M under the cap with this roster: T Lawson/ R Felton W Chandler / A Affalo (both RFA expected to be matched) D Gallianari/ G Forbes ______/ A Harrington C Anderson / T Mozgov

No he's not but thanks - this exchange we've been having refers to this trade scenario posted by on page 70 by JC which had this trade Iggy/Brand for Nelson/Bass/Turk/Orton Jareth Cutestory, on 06 May 2011 - 08:25 AM, said: http://games.espn.go...tradeId=6y8l3zy Who says no?

Earl Clark Wants to Stay in Orlando

I'm not saying he deserves it but if the Magic want to keep him that's ball park what its going to take. I'm sure you know that speculative contracts are given to a large amount of young bigs with upsides specially ones who were in weird situations such as Clark being the only young player in this rookie season with the Suns over the hill gang. Players like Clark get contracts like that every summer - its the allure of the unknown - the what if he's the next big diamond in the rough discovery and at $3M while a lot for the cap strapped Magic - not really much as just about every team is in need of size. If you go down your list you will see that all of those players are older, $ value already established, or repairing well earned damaged physical/performance/attitude reputations, or they are in the middle of contracts that were given before their accurate value was established. Most bigs with that kind of upside don't get their options not picked up - its very rare - so normally that third and fourth year set that players value, but for whatever crazy reason the Suns didn't pick up the option and thus his first non rookie contract value has to be established with almost no data other than what everyone saw this year and what many scouts projected him to be...and for a versatile mobile big with huge wing span in the NBA that almost surely means at minimum one GM will roll the dice...

Could be the end for a lot of guys

i'm not trying to be a jerk just not convinced by your argument - trust me if we could pull off this trade I'd be all aboard but reality is reality I get what your saying about Iggy/Turner dynamic etc. but what I'm saying is that they have bigger plans for Iggy than the Magic can offer... ...I love Jameer's heart and toughness but while Jameer is really good and would be the best talent heading their way in your trade it doesn't negate the fact that they are set at PG and for cheaper - so even though he might be a local hero his contract and duplication make it a bad move for 76's. If they were to upgrade at the point it would be to change their style of play going towards a more traditional PG of which we all know Nelson is not. They surely wouldn't do it by going smaller, older and more expensive. The logic you use for Bass/Brand applies here. In addition whatever relief you are giving the 76's by taking on Brand's ($35M) contract is greatly being reduced by Hedo's ($23M) contract...not to mention that Doug Collins and Hedo would be like Arenas and Van Gundy minus the whole Otis (the boss) being his mentor.

Could be the end for a lot of guys

what possible reason does Philly have for wanting Nelson, they have not one but two point guards already that are fighting for the starting position. They have 6'4" 20yr old Jrue Holiday and 6'1" 24 yr old back up PG Lou Williams Jrue Holiday: 14 ppg / 6.5 apg / 4 rpg / 1 spg / 15.5 PER Lou Williams: 14 ppg / 3 apg / 3 rpg / 1 spg / 19 PER Jameer Nelson 13 ppg / 6 apg / 3 rpg / 1 spg / 15.5 PER combined Holiday and Williams make $6.7M and are signed for 2 and 3 more years....Jameer makes $7.8M for 2 more years.... ....I can't see Philly moving Iggy for anything less than a young high caliber player (wing or center) on a decent contract - no one on the Magic fits that bill ...and dumping Brand's contract is not reason enough as he has only one year left (or two if they want to pick up their option) plus there might be a lockout which = no pay so that really is a non factor ...plus Doug Collins loves Brand and Iggy ...and Philly loves Doug Collins.....though Iggy has said he wants out and Philly fans want him out he is still their best player

that trade is not such a stretch and mutually beneficial - Clippers are one team that actually could use Hedo's ball handling skills because their PG is Mo Williams and getting a tall point forward would be beneficial to Blake Griffin's game. Their biggest hole is at the SF spot. The sweetener of Anderson to join a potent young frontcourt of Griffin/Diogu and Jordan has to be appealing to Clips specially since it adds a totally different skill set to the young bigs they have. As far as contracts Hedo's is only one year longer than Kaman and similar in size... From the Magic's side I imagine they would love to get rid of Hedo's contract but losing Anderson without assurances that Kaman would resign after next season could be a glitch or it could be a bonus as that would clear cap space at the right time.

Philly, you take away their only low post presence and don't replace it. Plus they've been begging for an upgrade at center since the new millennium and you trade their biggest asset to get that. Just insert Gortat instead of Hedo....damn never mind... Kaman for Hedo would be awesome...but we'd have to sweeten the pot to compensate for that extra year on Hedo's contract

Earl Clark Wants to Stay in Orlando

I would offer a deal that averages out to $3M/5yrs with years 3 and 4 a team option and 5 a player option. For a player like Clarke long term security in the league is premium - for the Magic we have the option to keep him for the ascending side of his sweet spot of his prime 24-28. If he blossoms we won't be able to afford that type of combination of skill set and size even if that type of player is even available for at least two seasons. If he doesn't develop in two years he's still a big that can be thrown in as an expiring or just cut loose. In the meantime at minimum he's insurance at the forward positions - specially since our two most movable assets are Bass and Anderson. All he has to do to earn that $3M is improve his team defense and his jump shot - which neither are goals that look to be outside of what his natural development projects to. If his hustle continues - just his size and natural mobility alone will make him twice the defender Barnes could ever be except a SF with a 7'3" wingspan and potentially a solid offensive threat at the other end.

Earl Clark Wants to Stay in Orlando

If you really want to keep Clark here the amount you and someone else proposed ($2 -2.5 M a year) is way too low. I overvalue him because of his size, uniqueness of skill set and that he could develop into what we wanted Barnes to be for Magic. True he is unproven and raw and he had a bad first year but a lot is forgiven to bigs with those type of skills. Maybe your right and it won't be $5-7Million level of forgetfulness but definitely not late first round rookie money which is what he got last year.

Earl Clark Wants to Stay in Orlando

Outlaw's 08-09 Numbers: G 81 MPG 27.7 PPG 12.8 RPG 4.0 APG 1.0 BPG .06 FG% .453 3FG% .377 PER 15.15 Those are the numbers that earned him $7 Million / 5 year (guaranteed/no team option). Travis Outlaw is 6-9 (on a good day) 210 lbs (in wet clothes) and can not pass and only play the 4 in small ball sets. --- Outlaw was a bad example - Clark is closer to a Boris Diaw physique/type of player - though he's much bigger and has a much longer wingspan. At 25 Diaw signed a 5 yr/$45M contract after having a breakout 13/7/7 season with the run and gun Suns so the numbers are skewed high but still that type of skill set netted him a big contract. If other teams think he has potential to get to at least Boris Diaw level he will certainly be getting at the very least $5M/yr...Hollinger and various other scouting sites have him projected to peak at L. Odom level. Also for what its worth, Hubie Brown (who despises the Magic) has raved about his skill set and potential on national tv...

Earl Clark Wants to Stay in Orlando

Travis Outlaw got $7M for 5 yrs...and he was 3 years older, much smaller, shorter arms, and offensively 1 dimensional plus possessed 0 passing skills - he was already proven as a solid defender and 3pt shooter but at his age he was what he will be....perhaps I am overvaluing Clarke some but I'm thinking that GM's are seeing the increasing need for versatile big with quick and agile footwork that can defend the 3pt line and still get back and bang - someone will undoubtedly offer up some stupid amount

Earl Clark Wants to Stay in Orlando

a 23 yr old 6-10 SF/PF with raw but a very high upside at $2M?...try more like at least $5-7 for 3-4yrs...at the risk of sounding like a Clarke homer but he has a Lamar Odom type physique with longer arms and a raw but similar skill set which is pretty rare for player that size - he's gonna get paid this summer by someone...

    Fran would be fine

i get the box of tampons but why would he be enticed by a burrito?....you do know he's from Spain which is a European country and burrito's are from Central America...to make it easy for you think about what the differences are between the cultures, languages and cuisines of Ireland, Scotland, Australia and US....thats like saying Andrew Bogut is gonna be enticed to play for in England if they offer him hamburger, fries and a coke....

so Portland would look like this: Arenas / Patty Mills Roy / Fernandez Wallace / Babbit Earl Barron / Dwight / Oden - so not only do they have Oden and Roy injured players with enormous contracts they now would also have Arenas - the image of a backcourt of Arenas and Roy - locked in until 2014-15....amazing yep if I'm the Portland GM I definitely do this, and if I'm Dwight I absolutely push for this to happen....seriously dude
