    The United States of America

    vs.

    Spain

Not only is it a great matchup of two of the world's basketball powers, but it also features a head-to-head matchup that will go down in the history books as one of the greatest of all-time.

    Mr. Dwight Howard

    vs.

    Mrs. Fran Vasquez

So now, I present an opportunity to you Magic fans. Explain what will happen on that fateful day. Will Dwight greet Franny with open arms? Will he encourage him to come play for our beloved squad? Or will Dwight make Mr. Vasquez pay for the pain and torture he has caused the Magic Nation.

    VOICE YOUR OPINION.

pictures, captions, dialogue. all is welcome...

I'm really sorry 'cause I could feel a lot of expectation in your words, but this isn't going to happen...

Fran hasn't played with Spain in a international competition yet, neither will do this summer after the worst year of his career.

He's not even in the standby list of players that could join the team in case of injuries.

Anyway, take a look to Ricky Rubio if he will have a chance to play, he's only 17, but he's already a very good player and a fantastic prospect in the PG position.

Not yet a shooting force, but his defense, ability to steal, vision of the court are really good.

The bottom line is that it hurts the NBA as a whole, Teams practically lose draft picks that may set them back a couple of years.

If Fran actually played for us, then we probably wouldnt need a PF as bad as we do now. Which would of made it alot easier to fill our wholes through the draft and FA. But now since PF is apart of the needs group, we are going to have to make some quick decisions to fill the needs for next year (PF,SG,Bench).

So when teams are set back, its reflected in their win/loss column, which is the column that affects rather or not people pay to see their home team play. Ofcourse major markets are not effected as much as smaller markets are.

Yeah, I wasn't trying to justify international players, only to add arguments.

Actually, I'm european and I'm very disappointed with players like Navarro, Garbajosa or Fran, cause they prefer to settle in the simple road instead of proving their abilities in a bigger stage.

This problem could be solved with your proposition, when a player declare himself elegible, he must go in the NBA and close his international contract immediately (unless is the team to ask him to wait some time to improve his game)

But until this isn't a rule, is responsability of the team to check the players desire better.

I can't agree with this logic. You can't add up the production from 2 players and compare them to the production from 1 player.

That's like trying to compare the stats of a player that plays 40 minutes a game to a player that plays 20 minutes a game, and then criticizing the player that only playes 20 minutes for not putting up the same type of numbers as the 40 minute player.

but i've never compared darko's and VC's stats combined to rashard's. i just compared their salaries.

Couldn't agree either, a fair comparision should be between the salaries they earn every year, not the total amount of the lenght of the contract.

VC made 13,3m this year, Lewis 14,8m.

Not a big difference, and I strongly prefer to have a guy like Rashard in this Orlando team, instead of Vince Carter.

  4. Couldn't agree more with this solution.

I believe that's only a part of the truth.

Sure, a lot of int. players couldn't find playing time and go back to their country for that reason, but don't forget that there are also a lot of All-Star between them, and good contributors too.

For example, Navarro had a good first year in Memphis, he almost broke the record for threes made by a rookie, there was interest from Memphis and other teams to sign him, but he's back in Barcelona after only one year.

Job security, culture, language (and don't forget wifes and girlfriends) are huge factors for them to come back.

And if you include that the Euro is very strong now against the Dollar... you have the complete picture.

  5. Yeah, I know that, for that reason I'm trying to convince people to forget about him...

I don't know a lot about the college players on the draft, but I see a lot of European prospects and good players here, and Fran isn't in that list.

This doesn't mean that the Magic don't have to draft European players anymore, only assuring that they want to come before drafting them...

Just keep watching the threads that talk about roster changes, new lineups, etc., and you will continue to see posters continue to list Fran as being on our roster, or potentially being on the roster.

  6. Don't worry about it, really, I live in Spain, see him playing a lot of times and I can assure you all that is not even a good player in Europe, so you can imagine the impact he would have in NBA.

The better things for the Magic management and fans would be forget about him, and stop talking about it.

Anyway, I would be very happy to lose his rights for a Extra Crispy one...

  7. I think that a lot depends on what Otis is going to do with Turk.

If he keeps him in the team (that I believe is probable right now) in my mind the only way to give Hedo enough playing time is keep Lewis at PF.

In this case, I'm looking forward to use the MLE and the 22th pick both in the backcourt, adding another pick (aquired in a trade) for a young PF with a lot of potential that could contribute in the future, when Battie and/or Cook will be out of the books.

If Otis is going to trade Hedo, the priority would be a "classic" and solid PF, a player that could fit well alongside DH, using the MLE or the trade for Hedo to find that.

And the draft pick(s) would be for the backcourt, not forgetting that this move eventually open the need of a backup SF.

Probably draft might would clarify the path...

  8. Thank you, it's a lot of time that I read this forum, so now I'm pleased to start posting here for the new season to come.

I'm not saying that is impossible to JJ to improve and change his role, but this a tough task, and you have to take it step by step.

First he has to be a regular contributor off the bench.

Keyon is an experienced player that has already fought a lot of battle in this league, and he "survived" thanks to his abilities and despite of his weakness.

There are a lot of more skilled player than him that can't find a way to stay in NBA and have to go in smaller leagues or Europe.

So, from my point of view, JJ has to work harder to earn playing time first.

    quote:

2nd i think we all know that Keyon was a great combo guard for us and to have JJ try and come in and fill those shoes is unpredictable.

  9. He already had a very difficult time finding space in the role he knows, how he could do better in a role he never played?

To be effective, he needs his team making plays for him (screens), but you have to play strong and show concistence to deserve that, you didn't earn the confidence of the coach and teammates only for your college career.

  10. Sometimes the truth is on the middle...

Ariza was a fan favorite, 'cause he's a very athletic, spectacular player, that make hard dunks, blocks, good defense (not outstanding...) and play with heart and hustle.

It's easy to like him, I do as well, and yesterday I was happy to see him in that shape.

On the other side, he's injured prone, he didn't show a lot of improvement in his jump shot, he didn't fit in SVG system, he's a SF (a very good covered role in our team) and he was in the last year of his contract.

At the time Otis made the trade, the target was a PF (Cook) and Evans was the odd player to provide depth on the bench.

It was simple to believe that Trevor wouldn't have resigned with us as an UFA, and difficult to predict that Evans will be our starter and commanding so much money for next year...

Every trade is a gamble, and it's very simple to judge after six months.

  11. The first injury was tremendous, but he recovered pretty fast to play with Spain.

Maybe too fast, and at the start of this season Toronto stop him to repair some collateral damage.

He was ready to play in February anyway, but I think that Toronto didn't like at all his decision on the previous summer, and didn't give him a possibility to come back in the rotation.

Now the buyout is the natural end of the story.

He's not a bad player, he's a high IQ on the game, good shooter, he can play both 3-4 position, but is not very good in rebounding or blocking shot.

So he'is not very useful to cover Orlando needs at this time, but if he wants to come for the minumum, why not?

    Very unlikely anyway.
