I believe that a lot of us see those defects on Paolo, but it's actually a great thing that he has space to improve, would been a lot worst if he was already at his top. But the way max contracts works now, almost every very good player is able to make it, even when it's not fully deserved. Banchero is surely one of the most clear max given in the last few seasons.
Btw, OMD has already repeated in various articles that trading Suggs will be the only solution in the future to solve the second apron issues.
-
Empty summer discussions, there was maybe a case for Franz being worth a little less than the max, but I understand you don't want to make one of your core guys angry for that. Suggs is possibly overpaid too at the moment, but only because he has been unable to stay healthy. We'll see, next season will tell us a lot.
(the only thing worth discussing is the player option, that's something rare, only Trae and Luka before, but what is done is done)

It's going to be scary especially in the last season of so, there'll be a lot of speculation.
For now, we can just enjoy the moment and catch our opportunities that lies ahead.

What are the Jazz and Clippers doing here exactly? Powell is by far the best player in this trade.
Going to be 33 next season, probably not willing to extend him for big money, so they've traded it as an expiring? -
From OMD
QuoteStein also reported the Orlando Magic were set to hire Milwaukee Bucks assistant coach Joe Prunty to be Jamahl Mosley's lead assistant.
Joe Prunty was a holdover from Adrian Griffin's tenure with the Bucks and is known for being good at drawing after-timeout plays and for his offensive acumen.
He may not be a pure offensive coordinator as many fans hoped for, but he should boost the team's offensive strategy and thinking. -
I've already said that I liked our offseason and I obviously like the fact that we're not static and adding people to the coaching staff too, it was something I wrote about a few times in the past. But how we know those are really great coaches? It's hard for me to be excited before seeing results. Reports on Shamgod were actually positive, but like CT, I've searched for more Prunty info and we don't still even know if he's an offensive coach or what... ;)

That cell phone story is worrysome! :D
I was saying I've liked a lot Denver offseason, both financially wise and for the players they got, but seems they're going to lose Valenciunas, that was the first real backup for Jokic in a long time. (is legit to have a player traded and then heading to Europe just a few days later? strange!)

The answer is we don't know.
Now we know! :P
Considering that the market for Jett is probably none, I've thought too about the possibility of stretching him, especially after the Dame thing. Don't know if FO will go that way, we'll see, but we're at 14 so we can also easily stop here and wait.
-
So, when we expect news for Moe and possibly Caleb? Waiting that the other teams make their moves and there's no more cap space available?
-
Thanks for the article Soul, that was something that a lot of us was requiring in the last few season even if doesn't seem to be a pure offensive or shooting coach, will surely help and his background seem really solid. Let's hope we don't lose our def one now.

Kings giving Dennis Schroder 3/45 is wild.
They had Hali and traded him, preferring Fox.
Then they obviously traded Fox too.
Then they noticed the need for a PG... just to pay 45m a player that was traded multiple times in february and waived...
They also traded Valenciaunas for Saric straight away, with no picks involved. Great management.
Btw, Denver offseason has been really interesting. Got Cam, got Bowen back at the minimum (+ Hardaway I've just seen), and then finally a center to survive non-Jokic minutes, that has always been a big issue. They played the champs to game 7 even with a few health problems, and now they're probably better. Something to look at in the wild West, that will be even tougher and more competitive than the East.

Milwaukee needed to do something bold, Giannis has been as patient as possible, but there's a limit (one series won in 4 years...). Will those moves works? Who knows, but at least they're showing him they're trying.
Feeling bad for Indiana, and even a bit for Boston (that's not true), that had to broke up great groups due to terrible injuries + cap limitations.

Context matters. That’s why i don’t understand the opinions that we could have signed him last year or that he is overpaid now.
Context matter on the post too, as I was just saying that I was surprised by the "overpay" cause it puts us in a situation that prevent another possible move. Also, I don't care a lot if he accepted the minimum in PHO hoping for a big raise... Suns seasons was a disaster and his season was average, so maybe he should have accepted less to sign for a team that will actualy make playoffs! :P I'm still surprised by the fact we didn't signed him last season if it was a "Weltman" player, would have possibly been a lot more useful for our team last year, and we could have paid surely more than PHO. Now it was a bit strange after the other moves, but I'm not complaining, just saying it has surprised me the sudden philosophy change (in a positive way).

I don't think it's an overpay to be honest, he was worth more than the vet minimum last year he just took a reduced salary to be a starter on what was supposed to be a contender.
His brother Tre just signed a 3 year 24mil deal.
Davion Mitchell just signed a 2 year 24mil deal.
Ty Jerome just signed 3 year 27mil.
Sam Merrill 4 year 38mil.
I think I'd rather have Tyus at 1 year 7mil than any of those guys at their numbers.
I can't disagree with that, but still, he hasn't set the world on fire in PHO and we were really close to not be hard capped. All the guy you listed are also probably younger, and not going to contenders.
Anyway, I spent most of the evening writing I would have been surprised if we got him due to past circumstances, and... we did. WeltHam was known for being unpredictable, but this time has been the opposite.
- said we were going to be aggressive and change philosophy, and we did both.
- said other teams were asking a lot knowing our weakness, and he had to send a lot of picks for Bane.
- everyone was expecting and suggesting Tyus... and they were actually right!
Side note about Bane: a lot where probably expecting Memphis to start a rebuild after the trade, but they've been really active and make moves to stay competitive. Why they traded him then? Probably the long list of assets received was the only way and too good of an offer to say no.

Also since the Tyus money was more than the Taxpayer MLE it means we used the full MLE and are now hard capped at the first apron amount of $195.9mil.
I was surprised by the amount too, it's a clear overpay considering other contract around and he was coming from a veteran minimum, and while I don't care about it being ony a 1yr deal, the consequences for the other moves are far more important.
About his defense, we don't know Rich yet but both could possibly have the same issue, we have a few combinations with our new backcourt now, and I believe Tyus will play 5/10 minutes in the playoffs only when the opposite lineup allows it.

Something to consider: The KCP signing was an overpay and a mistake. The Cole extension was a mistake. Many of us also believe the timing of the WCJ extension was a mistake, too. That all being said, I think we need to temper our expectations with WeltHam's ability to sign free agents/pay guys.
Agree, and add Isaac, that I've always loved, but has been paid a lot lot lot more of what he produced in the last few years. I could understand the point that some contracts have been used for matching salaries, but others were not as we didn't make a lot of moves before this summer. Also, when you pay a guy 20+ or 10+, you expect him to provide something when it counts (playoffs) even before getting traded, and we don't got a whole lot from Cole or KCP against the Celtics (contains irony).
I was never a fan of re-signing our own guys just to fill the cap space when we still had it. Let's hope that the new phase we just started will produce better results. Until now, I've liked that activity a lot more than the evaluation summers.

All quite silent, there's an update about salary cap for 2026/27 being up only of 7% instead of 10%, but I don't know how much this will affect us.

QuoteCan confirm this was communicated in a league memo sent to teams today. Has major implications for any teams who were making deals based on assumption of another 10% increase in cap/tax/apron levels.

Another point on Tyus is that he was already pretty available last season for the minimum, when we would have surely needed him more than now with Bane and Richardson, and we took Co-Jo instead. I don't see it as a big sign of interest from our FO.
Actually, if nothing useful comes out with FA (I wouldn't be depressed by that, I always say that FA ends with overpaying you're going to regret most of the times), I would not be against getting Joseph back. I know it's not the sexy choice, but he already know the team and the system, he only need to being put on the right role... that is not a starter against Boston, but he could still be a reliable backup in limited minutes, now that we have more options and Suggs back.

I believe they're considering the long term, where the 4 big contracts will take almost 90% of the cap space (I don't remember the exact %, it's only a way to say that will absorb a big chunk) so it'll be really difficult to add the other 11 players and stay within apron limits. Something like that. And then the easiest move would be Suggs.
I honestly don't care about it now, we'll consider it later, before we'll need more data about how this big 4 will work and how far we can get. Finally a season with a lot of expectations! :)
