I'm worried too, but I would wait until the deadline in February. I mean, try to play Lewis at PF for another stint, if we still improve following this path, try to keep Hedo. If not, trade Hedo for a classic PF. Coming february, the market on PF position could be better (right now is quite poor) And we would have more time for trying to sign him to a fair extension if we couldn't find any good trade.

This is the exact thing that happened with us and Seattle last year in the pursuit or Rashard Lewis. Do you really think that Seattle would trade Lewis away for a draft pick and a trade exception? =S...They only did it because Lewis was UNRESTRICTED, he wanted nothing to do with Seattle annd wanted to be in Orlando, so they had no choice but to get what they could from us because he would would for nothing. Same thing with Maggette. He doesn't want to be in L.A anymore, he wants to come home. It's just a matter of the Magic management being willing to spend the money on Maggette to get him here. Maggette is like Lewis, UNRESTRICTED, meaning that he can walk for nothing! I'm sure the Clipps would gladly take something off of our hands for him regardless of what it is IF Maggette insists on coming here and IF the Magic management is willing to spend to makeit happen. If you're right, I really hope we'll not overpay for him as with Rashard last year. This would stuck our roster for years to come...

Let's not forget that Dwight Howard can opt out of his 5th year and can be a free agent. We are going to get it done this year!! I will believe that he'll accept a paycut in order to return home only when we'll have the sign on the end of the contract. But until now, reality is that all this hope started with a article on the Sentinel reporting thoughts of undisclosed friends of him, followed by another "news" declaring that the Magic are not pursuing him. Not enough to make me upbeat right now...

July 1st - What would you like to see

I know we all have great expectations, but I believe that nothing is imminent on the Magic way. It's not like last year, when a lot of cap space make us very agressive on the market. I read a lot of good names for the team in all the threads, but unfortunately this is not a NBA managerial videogame, and we tend to forget that there are 30 teams on the league, and all those names are on the mouth of probably 75% of those teams. We also easily forget that for making a trade you have to give up something with value for the other team, and this is not always the case in the most of the offers I read about (not counting the ones that couldn't work under NBA rules) So, I would be very surprised if we make a big move in the next few days.

O-Sen: Magic may make move for Maggette

quote: Originally posted by SmackDaddy: quote: Originally posted by Marc Acres 3:16: quote: Originally posted by SmackDaddy:I'd still prefer that Pietrus was the SG that landed in an Orlando Magic lineup. I'm struggling with this because of that very reason. Part of me likes the idea of adding a 20pt per game scorer and another part of me doesn't want more offense without a serious upgrade in defense. It's pretty simple really. If we were somehow able to land Maggette, then I beleive management would be open to trading Hedo. You just can't deal Hedo without having another bonafide scorer. And if they were looking to move Hedo, I bet we could easily land Haslem, Collison, Lee, or any other rebounding, defensive-minded PF we wanted. But with our lineup, as it is constructed currently, Pietrus is a much, much better fit at the SG. I'm 100% with you. Altough Maggette could be considered a steal if he really sign with us for the MLE (and I won't believe that until this is not only a rumor coming by some friend of him...) I would take Pietrus anyway. On the offensive end, there wouldn't be enough shots for all with Corey on the team: 1) Last year, a lot of times we already forget to feed DH, and you don't want to have your franchise player unhappy. 2) Lewis was the third option, who really want to have a max player as a fourth offensive option next year? On defense, we need something better than him, cause we already have a bad team defense, and remember that DEFENSE win championship, offense only win awards. On the other side, I love Pietrus defense, he's a pretty good rebounder too, he can shoot the three and could penetrate, but he didn't need the ball on his hands all the time. Perfect fit on our team assuming that we mantain Lewis as PF (that is pretty probable after draft night) The only aspect of his game that really worry me is FT shooting, but I could live with that. But right now, all that trades and signs are only dreams and speculation, we really haven't any true indication that either Pietrus or Maggette or anyone else would come to our team.

  8. quote: Originally posted by Kberto: Yeah Pat Riley knows that too. That's why he wont do it. The only way Riley would give up Haslem to us is if he could completely rip us off in a lopsided deal. Agree. Right now is just a summer dream... The only way I could imagine Haslem in a Magic uniform is if Miami trade him to another team, and then we go after him. But i'm not sure this is possible under NBA rules.

    Dwight Howard, broken sternum?

quote: Originally posted by Tough Break There: quote: I would love to see Howard skip Olympics and training onli on FT shooting, but I'm pretty sure he has a strong will to go anyway. Am I the only one who thinks this Team USA team is one with legacy written all over it, and perhaps, more important than the Magic itself? I mean, I've been a Magic fan since the 80's, but Dwight's participation in Team USA to me is as important as anything else he'll ever do in his career. And is there any bigger indicator that we need more beef inside then Dwight breaking his Sternum going against the entire Piston front-line? I can understand your point, but I'm not a fan of USA Team at all, only of the Orlando Magic. I know this could sound egoistic, but is my point of view right now.

I mean, previously I read that teams were asking 3 millions for a late first round pick... this is really too much. But 200k for a player that the management like... after the money they gave to Rashard... difficult to understand. BTW, they passed on Chalmers because he's small? Is this true? I remember reading somewhere that he's 6'2" and playing outstanding defense (a perfect fit for us I think)

    Blazers showing everyone the way!

quote: Originally posted by KillingInTheNameOf: Memphis ends up with OJ Mayo & Darrell Arthur in this draft. Otis is officially worse than the Memphis front office! Let me disagree with this one... This is not the same team that give away Gasol for nothing? Now, they already have a ton of PG, they desperately need a big, and they trade away Love for another PG... not only that, they lose also Mike Miller in the process. Otis is not Pritchard, but luckily enough is not Wallace either!! Maybe we could use the Memphis situation for trading JJ (they could need him now that they trade away Miller) for one of their PG (Conley, Crittenton, Lowry)

Today's NBA DRAFT 2008 Thread - How did everyone do?

With this news, I'm done! The Miami Heat have acquired the draft rights to Mario Chalmers from the Minnesota Timberwolves for cash and two second-round picks, according to a league source. I was hoping that Orlando would make it! Anyway, five o'clock on the morning here, I'm going to sleep........

I don't know a lot about college players, but for what I read, I would try to get Chalmers right now, just to have a PG insurance.

Today's NBA DRAFT 2008 Thread - How did everyone do?

From ESPN: The Detroit Pistons have verbally agreed to trade the draft rights to D.J. White to the Seattle SuperSonics for two of the Sonics' second-round picks -- the 32nd and 46th picks -- according to a Pistons source. This is getting boring... please make JVG shut up and go faster...

    Marc Gasol

I'm not sure about that. First, I'm pretty convinced that he hurried a little his decision. Second, he's a center, no way to play him PF in NBA, and we already have the Warlock on this role. On the other side, he's waaaaay better than Fran, and he was the player with the better overall production in the Spanish League. OFF TOPIC, take a look at Rudy Fernandez in Portland, if he'll find playing time, he's really NBA ready and a very spectacular player. And in the Oliympics, Ricky Rubio will play for Spain, a 17 years old PG with a very bright future. I really hope the Magic could draft him someday...

    Marc Gasol

quote: Originally posted by KillingInTheNameOf:I know we have some posters who are familiar with and watch the Euro game. What are your impressions of Marc Gasol. I've read comments recently from several sources that indicate if he were in this years draft he would be a lottery pick and he's better than Brook Lopez. Are those comments completely off base, slightly exaggerated, or accurate? Thoughts??? Can't make a comparision with Lopez 'cause I don't know his game. But I've seen playing Marc Gasol almost every week here in Spain, and I could say that he's a true center, a lot more physical than his brother Pau, more rebounds, more blocks. On the other side, he's still a little raw on offense, he isn't skilled as his brother and he's a little slower. In my opinion, one more year in Europe playing Euroleague (he has played in a minor cup last year) was required, but he choose to try himself in the NBA right now. Best case: Zidrunas Ilgauskas. Worst case: back in Europe after one year.
