  1. Just a rumor without any real fundament, but worth posting considering this summer trend... http://sports.espn.go.com/nba/news/story?id=3520860
  2. Another one... http://sports.espn.go.com/nba/news/story?id=3520898 Quite a surprise for me, for what I know this Italian team didn't have the economic power to afford such a contract, but anyway, seems to be official.

  8. Arroyo is clearly the next one. Another article on ESPN speaking about that trend: http://sports.espn.go.com/nba/news/story?page=euroamfactfiction
  9. The next one is Taurean Green, not a big name anyway... Vujacic and Biedrins signed extension with their teams, so probably they used Europe as leverage for their future contracts.

True PG at a cheap price$$$

He's signed a contract with CAI Zaragoza in Spain.

    Steve Kyler-Morning Report 07/24

I'm with you, my concept of "and only if things didn't work out well" is something like a very bad season for the team (knocking wood), Turk being very selfish and wanting max money (he didn't really seem to be this kind of guy, but who knows), or Turk not repeating what he did this year (but in this case, his trade value would be dropping) With the offseason we have, everyday I'm growing really confident about having Rashard as our PF, 'cause we could be a better team on defense and rebounds with the moves that Otis made. Battie is back, he's not the savior, but we really need him, and I have good sensations with Cook (if nicknamed "finally in shape") too.

    Steve Kyler-Morning Report 07/24

There're always possibilities, but this offseason seems a complicated one for GM's because of salary issues. No team with cap space (except Memphis that isn't likely to use it) and a lot of good players searching for money that the franchise didn't have (see Childress) My bet is that Otis is not going to trade Hedo, not this summer at least, and only if things didn't work out well, maybe on february. So I don't give a lot of importance to all this rumors (Artest, Okafor, Smith)... it's summer, and everyone is getting bored! So my plan is JJ and Bogans (4,6m) for a third PG and a third PF, and if in the process we save some money (taking back almost 3,5m), we could have the space to make an offer to Mo very similar to the GS one without exceding the luxury tax. I'm not sold on Crittenton, and I would love to have a strong PF, one of that players not afraid to make hard fouls. BTW, we just lose one good possibility... http://sports.espn.go.com/nba/news/story?id=3503006

quote: Originally posted by TheJambo:We could possibly re-sign him and keep him, if we are working on trades involving Reddick and Bogans... Maybe Otis contacted him after he seen what he was willing to sign for, and told him to hold off a few days until he worked some things out. Just my opinion. (since there are no rumors as to who the other interested team could be, it sounds like possibly an Otis deal) I know this is only your opinion, but I would love this was an Insider Info... It's a lot of weeks that I route for having Mo as our backup, and trade both Bognas and JJ. Not simple, but it could be done, and the contract offered by GS wasn't really expensive for a player like him. I hope Otis is in this same page... I would love this move. Another asset like a pick or a TE would be welcomed too.

I read it on ESPN: http://sports.espn.go.com/nba/news/story?id=3501488 Interesting move, bad news for Atlanta (well, now maybe they can give more money to Smith), and good news for us, the Hawks are a team on the rise.
  18. Bad bad news, I was still hoping that somehow we could sign him, and trade Bogans and JJ for a PG (and/or a big) 3 years 6,5m is not so expensive for a player like Mo, and a Pietrus/Evans/Lee combination at SG is the best one in my opinion. Good luck Mo!!! You'll be missed.

Rumors out of Sacramento: Ron Artest for Turk?

quote: Originally posted by In The Know:With that said here is the specific trade that is supposedly being discussed: Ron Artest , Kenny Thomas(who we'd likely buy out), and a 2009 second round pick for Hedo Turkoglu, JJ Redick, Brian Cook, and Keith Bogans and a 2009 lottery protected first round pick. Welcome in the forum! Your first post is really good and complete, but I wouldn't do this trade unless a gun is pointed on my head... Artest is a fantastic player, but everywhere he goes he's going to create some problems, and I don't think that this is going to change in Orlando. But even without his attitude problems, there is no way I would take a bad contract (Thomas) while giving up half of our bench (Bogans, Redick, Cook) and a 1st round pick too. This would left us with a very thin rotation, a bigger hole at PF, and the same problem with luxury tax (I don't think that Artest would accept a cheaper extension than Hedo)
  20. quote: Originally posted by KillingInTheNameOf:J-Crit for 1st is reasonable deal, although I've heard Memphis & Crit linked to more. But, I'm still not understanding the logic of how Memphis will use TE. I think that Smack is saying that Memphis could trade the exception to a team over the salary cap for their draft pick (an elite team that didn't need the pick and didn't want to add more salaries)

I was just reading an article on ESPN.com (I think it was from Marc Stein???) about how a lot of the non-US born NBA players are heading back to Europe to make more money due to the Euro kicking the tar out of the dollar. Factoring in the percentage that Uncle Sam gets of the typical NBA contract, it makes sense for the non-star player to make the better money overseas. Still, it is surprising to see a US born player - and a good one at that - to be considering this after only his first NBA contract. It doesn't take long for a few isolated incidences to become a trend. The turning point would be a US born player of this level (Childress) going to Europe, while reserves like Loren Woods, Jumaine Jones, already did it. Until know, only international players had this trend (and this guy skipping the college for money) Navarro, Delfino, Brezec are only the most recent of a long list. Nachbar is the last one, and he was pretty good in NJ http://sports.espn.go.com/nba/news/story?id=3497994 I agree with Marc the teams are not willing to spend a lot right now, and having only Memphis with cap space (and unwilling to use it) is a big card in the hands of the teams. They can only take the one year offer to become unrestricted like Pietrus do last year, and hope that this will work.

I think that this is the best move he made as Orlando GM until now.
