Official "Come To Orlando Kobe" thread
Murphy13 replied to Ibn Battuta's topic in Orlando Magic Forum
do i need to start an official hell no to kobe thread to balance out idiocy of this thread? -
i am apprehensive about attaining kobe, he is a great talent. but he also seems to be a cancer. as long as dwight makes it clear that this is his team, not kobe's i guess it would be worth the shot. oh, and for the love of god people....please forget about rashard lewis!!! he isnt worth it!!!

you get all the games on league pass, unless they are playing on national television, then they get blacked out.

That leaves us with $135,000 to complete the roster under the cap. We would be so far in the luxery tax Devos's head would pop off. funny picture.... but seriously, i am so glad that some magic fans are starting to realize the gobblity gook they are talking about. 135thousand to complete the team? even if you took the overpaid lewis out of the mix, that is still a whole lot of money...

rashard lewis is not our man!!! who on this board thinks he is worth 14 million a year?
-
darko is way better than anybody drafted beyond the first 5 picks this year. it was a good trade for us, mr. selleck

DarkoandDwight's 2007 Orlando Magic Off-Season.

i still say no to rashard lewis. he is one dimensional and overpriced. -
Steve Kyler on why the Magic chose Billy and our NBA draft plans
Murphy13 replied to ball junkie's topic in Orlando Magic Forum
i would trade jameer if it meant we could get jarvis. unless we lose hedo, rashard lewis would just be a duplication of talent. besides, there are too many teams vying for lewis' services. he would cost us too much to be worthwhile. -
if we pick up rashard, you can kiss our financial flexibility goodbye for the length of the contract. thats not a good thing. stick with the people that would be worth their contract.

everyone on this board is saying no to gerald wallace because he is too similar to ariza... first of all, whats wrong with having two great athletes on the floor at the same time? especially in an uptempo offense? secondly, they are just as similar as rashard and turk. but everyone here is crushing on rashard just because he can hit open jumpshots. whoopee. atleast wallace contributes on both ends of the floor which will help you win more games anyways. lewis will cost too much money for what its worth for a one dimensional player. hes not even a great offensive talent, he doesnt dominate like carter does. he gets those open looks because ray allen gets the attention of the other teams doubles. oh, and wallace is a scorer, maybe not a shooter, but a scorer. thats what we need. our need has been quoted as a wing scorer, not a wing shooter. we have a great shooter in redick. we need someone who gets to the basket when everyone else is struggling. wallace will be able to do that and get to the line. Nyce has the right idea. this 'insider' may have interesting bs to talk about, i agree, but if he prefers lewis over wallace then he needs to get league pass and watch those two guys play and truly find out which one is better...in fact....everyone on this board go get league pass and watch those two guys play and then tell me that you would rather have lewis over wallace. ridiculous... by the way, i think carter #1, then wallace #2, billups #3, then lewis #4.

Is Gerald Wallace our target this offseason?
Murphy13 replied to FeedDwight's topic in Orlando Magic Forum
wallace is a smart choice, as was donovan's coaching offer. the magic seem to be making good descisions this summer. -
maybe otis thinks that donovan is obtainable and thats why he didnt push the iavaroni thing. if we dont hear anything by next week i bet it pj's job to lose, unfortunately...

Out of the three big free agents, who would you want to pursue most?
Murphy13 replied to ThisIsTheYear's topic in Orlando Magic Forum
1 wallace. best fit for our team. 2 vince. assuming he comes with reasonable salary 3 lewis. only ahead of billups because hes not on the list you asked for. lewis will be overpaid. plus he is one dimensional. not to mention he doesnt fill a need. i sound like a broken record, but we need a 1 or 2. not a 3. -
wallace is not a superstar phenom35. he is one dimensional. not to mention for as many high scoring games he has, he has as many single digit scoring games. atleast wallace brings energy and defense.

Sonics want Rashard back--Will he stay or will he go?(media based)
Murphy13 replied to ball junkie's topic in Orlando Magic Forum
i have watched him on league pass the past 2 years. first of all, he is streaky on offense. not as consistent as his salary would dictate. secondly, he gets abused on defense. im sure he does block some shots, but i cant say that i have ever seen him block any. he is 6'10". he should be blocking shots. -

we dont need him anyways, we need a 1 or 2. not a 3. -
Daytona media(Ken Hornack) says, "Forget Vince, Hello Rashard"!
Murphy13 replied to ball junkie's topic in Orlando Magic Forum
the max he could sign would be 6 with seattle, 5 years with anyone else, per the CBA. since he turned down a 12.5 mil contract, expect it to start at atleast 13mil+ for all five years. he is not worth near that much people!!!wake up!!! -
quote: Originally posted by Big:The Hawks feel that Zaza is better than Darko so it's doubtful they'd bite. The Bulls on the other hand might. They could offer the 9th pick and Nocioni for Darko. The next question would be who do you replace Darko with? nocioni, for starters. he can play the 4. especially for an uptempo team.

Murphy13 replied to ball junkie's topic in Orlando Magic Forum
i like rashard, but dont kid yourself. he is not versatile! he is strictly an offensive type guy. not much better that turk, in fact. not to mention he comes with over double the salary of turk...not what we need. gerald wallace is what you call 'versatile'. thats who we need! -
News Sources say Carlisle can't win Championships!
Murphy13 replied to DarkoHero's topic in Orlando Magic Forum
well if a pistons fan says so... rip city doesnt have the magics best interest in mind he doesnt even know what the magic are trying to do. the pacers and pistons are nowhere near the kind of team that the magic are trying to be. which is a running team like toronto, phoenix, or golden state. -
i hope those numbers arent accurate...i have nothing against the guy but he had very good lineups in detroit and indiana(except for this year)and neither team improved after they got him. the pistons didnt win until they got rid of him and picked up saunders, and indiana's record got worse and worse the longer he was there. he is not the answer if we want to win championshhips! atleast donovan has a winning mentality about him. i like this Iavaroni guy although he has no rings. he seems to be able to relate to the suns players. those are my # 1 and 2 choices. btw, if we get Iavaroni, i say we push hard for gerald wallace. we would be the suns of the east, but with way better defense...thats a great start in my opinion. every potential coach in the nba wants this job. its the sweetest opportunity out there for a coach. murph, out!
-
i am not denying that he is a good coach...just not the type the magic need. the magic are going in a different direction than both detroit and indiana were headed. Macaroni fits the bill. and he will come at a better price, plus he was a player that won it all with philly. he knows what it takes to win, and all the suns players regard him highly, despite the fact that there isnt the best chemistry on that team either. some of your final comments cannot be proven as true statements. the pistons could very well have continued there ascension(sp.) especially given the state of the eastern conference. thats really irrelevant though. as far as my faux bball guru statement, it was going out to people who would say simply that i needed to check my facts and then they didnt follow up with any input. i dont mind criticism, i just hate it when people dont think through what they say. nothing i have said has been incorrect. if you look back ripcity at the thinking that some of the posters we have here, they dont have the ability to look to the future. their logic is that we have been struggling long enough that its time for the future to be today. although i share their sentiments, it is making some people short-sighted. take for example the rashard lewis situation. he is a very good player and i like him. but some people want him because of his stats this year. even though i think he is improving the only safe way to judge a player is to assess his career stats. he is a career 16pts 6rebs guy. turk is nearly the same thing as lewis, in every category, his career avgs are 11 and 4, respectibly(sp.)...mostly in reserve time with the western conf powers and us. he carried our team offensively the last 3 weeks of the season, just like he did last year. so for someone to average just 5 pts more and 2 rebs more than turk despite getting more minutes means that he could get 12mil+ from us for the next 5 years??? his contract will be double that of turks, youll see. hell, ariza could average those numbers easy next year. a lot of people only look at one facet of bball and not the business side. if 35-40% of the fans on this board had their way, we would get lewis and lose all financial flexibility indefinately until the magic broke down the team and rebuilt(miami heat). the magic have an opportunity to build from within and get a less pricey free agent that fills a need. (we dont need a sf/pf!!!) i just hope the magic build for the future and not sacrifice the future for an overpriced fa of anysort. this is getting too long winded. i am done, sorry for knocking on carlisle, a lot of people like him. but he is not a run and gun coach. i bet you a lot of the fans criticizing me were also the ones complaining that we werent running enough during the season, saying that thats what our strength was. now they are calling for another defensive minded coach. our defense is fine! we need some offense. i am done with this one, this is too long of a post for me.

quote: Originally posted by JJ's Great Aunt:Carlisle is much better than Murphy's year-by-year record chart would suggest. When he came to Indiana, the Pacers were garbage. In one year, he had them at the best record in the NBA. Nobody, and I mean NOBODY could get out of the mess with Artest alive. Carlisle salvaged all he could, but he lost games as he lost his weapons! Stephen Jackson (criminal) Ron Artest (Lunatic) Jamal Tinsely (criminal) Jermain O'neal (selfish A-hole) Reggie Miller (aging, eventually retired) Jalen Rose (Carlisle came in right at the END of Jalen's stardom) Jonathon Bender (worst 3rd pick in history) Brad Miller (here today, gone the next) I could go on and on. That's a darn good roster of players right? A team that could go 61-21 right? Well, what is Carlisle supposed to do when one or two players is taken off that list every year, and they are never REPLACED with a draft pick or free agent??? Carlisle got on board a sinking ship. He was the captain, but the ship was sinking no matter what he did! i dont know if you remember or not, but that was the year they were slated to win the ECF. those players werent known for being the headcases that they are today, jermaine was then just being recognized as a superstar. they had tons of hype about them that year. and it went down hill from there, thats all i am saying. thats a bad track record for a coach.
-
as a head coach? because thats what we were talking about here.... not a ring from playing 24 years ago...
-
i just want to re-iterate that i like carlisle as a coach. just not for our team. i hope he has a resurgence somewhere. im sure he will. but we need a winner. i am sure he played a big part for the pistons in his first season, and i remember thinking he got shafted after his second season. after all they made progress. although, he had some stellar players. after all the hype that first year in indy...things went downhill fast and they werent all his fault i know, but he didnt lead that team. we need a coach that leads us to victories. there are better options out there. take away all the talent that he had on those teams and put him on a sub-five hundred team(aka magic) and he wouldnt have looked as good then.
