    stephen a smith

i wonder if stephen a feels like a moron for his 'expert analysis' on the rashard lewis situation. suggesting that NY had the MLE to use but that he was going back to seattle. how much credibility does this guy have with espn?

Wallace and Lewis? It can happen!

i would love to have both lewis and wallace, but not at the expense of giving charlotte darko. with okafur and darko, they would have one of the best front lines in the league imo. that would leave us thin on our front line since sean may couldnt even start on a nonplayoff team...

  5. remember that it was just yesterday that otis called up espn and said that he still loves darko. so i think something is in the works, otherwise we might have heard from darko by now.

    SmackDaddy Confidential (Sorry MC)

JJZ and smack both make valid points... they both are just taking stances on slightly different issues. we are all on the same side people. i believe that if we renounce darko, making him unrestricted, that we would not be allowed to go over the cap to sign him. so if he does get renounced, kiss him goodbye. i may be wrong, but i think thats one of the benefits of 'bird rights'. i dont know how much space we will have after the shard signing. if they are able to make the contract back heavy( like 7.5 15 15 17.5 20 per year) then we may have enough to get darko to take a qualifying offer, and then get a sign and trade with charlotte along the lines of battie/turk and arroyo plus future considerations for wallace. thats the best scenario i see fit. because jjz is correct, we could have gotten shard anyways, regardless of darko, cato, arroyo or anything involving that trade. lewis comes to us via grant hill. so if we are going to lose darko, i want another solid piece for him because he is solid!!! and i didnt want rashard lewis anyways, so i think it should be gerald wallace. this will be an interesting week.

What if Darko accepts the qualifying offer?

quote: Originally posted by CRAZY SERB:to sign 2 of the 3 mentioned FAs, we'd need about $25mill but we'll have only 12 or 13. that won't be that much more... when you use a sign and trade, it wont count against available money under our salary cap(our 12-13 mil) its just trading our current contracts for a free-agents contract signed by the former team. make sense? so you could trade two players that get paid, oh, 6mil and 4 mil respectively from our team to another team that signs their free agent for 10 mil first year(for example) and we would still have all our available money under the cap.
  8. not much input from the posters on the trade proposal...i would do it in an instant. i would take the chance of having a not so deep front line. when you have dwight, you only need one other serviceable big(darko) to dominate the post.
  9. i have a great trade idea(imho) that would benefit both teams...tell me what you think... charlotte: sign and trade gerald wallace orlando: give up arroyo, battie/turk reasoning, charlotte made their big money splash. historically, a tight fisted owner wont make multiple big money transactions in one offseason. they have two needs on that team, a backup point(departure of knight), and a vet leader. that brings us to arroyo, a terrific backup point in a contract year, and batman, a good man overall and a much needed vet for that team. as much as i love turk, i would sub him for battie if charlotte demanded it, but i would rather keep him. assuming that charlotte thought they couldnt get a better deal elsewhere, both teams would benefit greatly, charlotte would get a good vet and decent backup point with an expiring contract that could benefit them next summer. they could sign wallace for 10mil and send him our way, protecting our precious cap space. with a possible line up of dwight/darko/wallace/ariza we could very well convince billups to take our remaining cap space to lead this team. in the given proposal, we would have a pretty mean second unit as well, with jameer and turk(hopefully)... so, what do all the pessimists out there have to say? oh by the way, for all those arroyo fans out there, i included him instead of jameer due solely to his contract, which is way friendlier. im not hatin on him.

What if Darko accepts the qualifying offer?

a viable option... it would also give us the opporunity to obtain 2 of the big three fa's (lewis, wallace, billups) this year. i would prefer wallace and billups personally, but i would be happy with lewis and wallace. i like wallace the best for our team.

    Denton on Wallace

Maybe Vince Carter was the expensive one after all. If that's all Lewis wants, maybe my dream of retain Darko, sign Lewis/Carter/Wallace, and then still have enough money to get a backup big without giving up anything that valuable isn't that big of a stretch? i am assuming that the 75mil marker is for a five year deal. that equates to 15 mil a year which is way too much for what lewis is worth. 75 mil over 6 years comes out to 12.5 mil, which is only slightly more palatable. however he would want more for a six year commitment. once again, not worth it.
  12. sub arroyo for turk in that deal first and see if they bite. i like it. i still prefer wallace!

    Who's gonna play SG?

or we can dump the lewis idea and go after wallace...end of 2guard troubles
  14. although you cant have two many bigs in my opinion, i believe that battie is certainly replaceable. turk is different. he is a truly solid role player. its harder to duplicate his talent and attitude.
  15. that trade idea assumes that gortat(or someone) can fill in for 10-15 minutes a night, then have a small ball lineup with dwight wallace turk manning the front court for another 5-10 minutes. also, i believe that cwebb and ghill would be willing to split the MLE if we can attain gerald wallace. that would solve our frontcourt issues.
  16. whoa whoa whoa....first of all, you call pizza hut first. come on people. then you call darko and go from there.

  18. forget lewis everyone! we dont need him. wallace is our man, then billups, then save it for next year if you cant get either one.

    "Sonics looking to keep Lewis"

even if lewis wanted to play the 4, he couldnt. he is strictly a perimeter guy with average slashing abilities. he isnt very strong either.
  20. let texas have rashard lewis, we dont need him we could literally sign grant hill, chris webber, and gerald wallace for the price it would take to get lewis.

    Gerald Wallace opts out....

quote: Originally posted by ThisIsTheYear:No, no, no, NO! I really hope hope the Magic don't fall for this guy. He's 4th on my list. We do not need Gerald. His jump shot is tremendously flawed, and we need someone who can space the floor. I'd rather have Lewis by a mile, this guy is a Shawn Marion without a consistent jumpshot. Please pick any of the other two/three!! 'spacing the floor' doesnt necessarily put points on the board...thats what we need(points)!!! thats what gerald wallace does...he scores...and rebounds...and steals...and blocks shots...and hustles...and is the number one option on the team meaning he is used to getting guarded by the other teams best defender(unlike the wet noodle rashard lewis who rides on ray allens coat tail)

Where on earth did you get that stat? He has played in 335 out of a possible 492 games. Thats 32% missed games. Most of his injury years were in Sacramento, where he wasn't a major part of their team. My bad, I meant he's only played in about 60% of his games, I just don't feel like Wallace is the missing piece to make our team a championship team, and for 10 mil? I just don't want to touch him for that much. surely this guy is one of the several fans on this board that isnt willing to pay an all around player 10 mil a season, but is dying to pay a one dimensional player 15 mil per year. yeah that makes a lot of sense.

    Orlando is Lewis's prefered destination!

for those of you that said that lewis has an inside-out game are mistaken. he gets abused in the post(he is very light). he doesnt have a great postup game at all. secondly, he will not average 20-25 next season for us. maybe 2008-09 if he improves. the only reason why his numbers are what they are is because he doesnt get a single double team and isnt the number one scoring option. remember, ray allen gets the best perimeter defender. he will likely score between 15-20 on average with his good games around 30. still an improvement, i agree....but not for the cost that it will take to get him here. he is not the correct choice for our team. we need an all around athlete that contributes all over the floor, ala gerald wallace.
