how about this for a trade...

yes i did think about why memphis would do this...my thinking was that even though they are sitting below the salary cap, they wont be for long when they extend their core salaries, i.e. rudy gay and others. giving them a good backup point with an expiring deal is a good deal. they have 2 points, and one of them is a rookie that rode the coattail of greg oden since they were kids...the other, lowry, cant play offense. if arroyo is good at anything, its providing a good offensive spark. look how young their team is. we all know that battie's greatest strength is in the locker room, and off the court. hes a good character guy. keyon i would hate to give up, but hes a valuable asset on a team who seems to lack a defensive presence at the two spot. maybe their plethera of fowards could fill in, but otherwise, its casey jacobson and mike miller guarding the two guards of the league on that team...it would take a future first rounder to get memphis to bite, which is fine with me. we will be over the cap anyways forever, thanks to the only deal made this summer aside from svg. besides, dont kid yourself, the grizz have gotten a lot better but they are still building. (they are in the west). additional availability under the salary cap would allow them to pursue fa's next year as well...and beyond. in addition, its more fun talking about possibilities for us than everyone talking about how good boston and everyone else will be next year. people should just go to the boston blogs if they want to keep talking about them...

how about this for a trade...

since we are all about picking up overpaid players, how about this trade with memphis: out: keyon, arroyo, and battie(future first) in: pau gasol it works in trade checker. we would definately be contenders then. if that happened, who would care about our 2 guard issues? ecf in the crosshairs...

We need to fill our needs before anything even if it means trading someone that we really dont want to. Nobody really wants Garrity or Bogans so thats why i said Dooling or Arroyo cause they could immediately help a team. Not that many options out there in free agency for as pfs. I would hate to see Turkoglu play pf. Hes to soft. same goes with rashard. he is no less soft than turk.

Where do we stand in the East now?

he doesnt need to be a great coach when he has kg, allen, and pierce... dustin, if miami can stay healthy for most of the reg. season, replace magic with miami. switch with charlotte.

I know you realize this, but I'll point it out anyway: The NBA isn't the MLB. Making money off your team doesn't guarantee you the opportunity to pull in elite talent. The salary cap rules all. Garnett, if he fits into Boston's plan, will be *extended* off his current contract. His extension will be the richest in the NBA's history for now, and probably well into the future, since nobody else can even get a contract approaching his under the current CBA. Who will they have to trade after they finish trading away all their best young pieces? If they really have to give up A-Jeff, Green, and a 1st rounder (or 2) for KG, and they already traded DWest and a top 5 pick for Allen, they won't have viable pieces to trade to replace talents like Pierce and Allen. Honestly, I will have trouble being convinced that Boston can have a viable future after this quick win-now run is over. Not that I don't envy their position... you're right about one thing... screw mediocrity... But... we have Dwight Howard. If he can put up MVP numbers within the next 2-3 years, our core + Rashard is good enough to contend in any conference for championships. in order to stay competitive they could unload an expiring paul pierce deal in two years to a contender much like the twolves are doing with kg. they could get atleast 1 top tier pick, the other teams best prospect(jefferson) and other role players or exp. deals. that alone would replenish a strong team. if they needed they could do that with ray allen as well. or just vice versa. talents like what they have could get you a lot on the market. in addition, what i meant by them having ample money is that they will have no problem paying the luxury tax to retain talents. as long as you extend them before they become unrestricted, you can go completely over the cap. and they would be raking in so much money that the lux. tax will be nothing for them...

  7. from what i have seen, jj isnt that bad a ball handler. he did a fine job at the summer league. and you cant use his reg season numbers for or against him because of his lack of playing time...even though his assist to turnover ratio was 2:1, tied for best on the team. not to mention he has the length to guard bigger points. he also has the highest bball iq on the team. he would do a fine job. give him a chance. a lineup of: jj ariza shard *webber* or *brown* dwight or even jj ariza turk shard dwight would not only be one of the highest scoring lineups in the league, but possibly even the most exciting. remember people, this doesnt have to be the lineup for the whole game, just stretches of it. whats so bad? even the defense wouldnt be horrible, besides that lineup would assuredly outscore their opponents....

  9. i think its definately worth a shot...hes a better defender than jameer in my opinion...
  10. i was under the impression that you can only use one vet's min. salary per year... both are unrestricted fa's. meaning that their former teams would be doing us a favor in doing a s&t...unlikely since they are both in the east...

    Gortat vs Darko

I don't see any position being downgraded. pf is a serious downgrade. we went from having one of the most formidable front lines in the league to now just having dwight and a polish dude, which is still better than most, but definately a step back...as far as ghill, we are all jaded by him, but he was a solid 14-15 points a night. someone will have to make up for that now that there is a hole there. 2 steps back. 1 step forward.

    Shard at the 4, please

its an ok lineup... people, rashard cant play the 4!!! he is soft and plays strictly on the perimeter. his game is essentially turks game, except he takes more shots than turk. thats what everyone should expect from shard. thats how he has played his whole career. anyone who says he can slash to the basket is just basing that on those 'youtube' videos. however you could put together a decent video of turk slashing to the basket as well, but hes not a slasher...i have had the opportunity to watch allen and lewis on league pass the past two seasons. what you see is what you get. and, he is entering his 10th season, name one player that developed a post presence that didnt have one the first 9 years in the league....

Heat seem willing to give up Haslem...

haslem would start definately...he can run too... i still think that riley may bite if we throw in a future first. the heat are slowly rebuilding starting this year, you will see. an exp. deal along with a future first and a player that fits a need and puts butts in the seats is a good deal for haslem. (i am speaking of arroyo, btw) both sides win! riley is the gm, he has to play the business aspect, too. he didnt gain anything from svg leaving, thats why he pitched a fit. he would benefit greatly from the haslem deal...
  16. they are purportedly willing to give up both doleac and haslem for a backup point guard(alston) maybe we could pry haslem away for arroyo, future considerations? haslem would be the ideal fit for our team right now. if we got him and attained pj brown for the vet min. we would be sitting pretty!

Thank God for what we have

this is the first time i have read this thread, and it will be the last. there are better things to talk about than a couple people arguing back and forth about dead issues. darko is gone, that sucks, hes a good player and he will shine this year. we all hope that shard turns out to be as good as otis is hoping. i wonder if otis realizes that if shard doesnt work out, then he is out of a job? relax, fighting brothers... maybe otis can hoodwink riley into giving up haslem, you can always be optimistic.
  18. i have to vent here... let me start this off by saying that i am a diehard magic fan through and through. i lived in orlando for my formative years and now live in kansas city. if your commissioners vote to nix this venues project(much like the rail project), it will be because of the multitude of stupid people in that city. i just got done reading blogs on the sentinel about the venues, and not only do your columnists clearly oppose the plan, but a lot of citizens do too...they say there are more important things to spend money on. why is it that the majority of people think that the money used for the proposed projects can be used on other 'more important things'. its due to lack of information. too few people care enough to get the point across in orlando. if this deal doesnt go through this week, i think the magic should pick up their shiot and move cities. KC is looking for an nba team and they would sell out every **** night even if the team sucked. (basketball was invented in kansas, for those of you who didnt know). they take it seriously out here, and they are die hard. im saying this here because i know this is where the other die hard fans are for the magic. i dont want them to move cities, but it seems like the majority of people dont care one way or the other about anything in that city...depressing. i dont know what it would take, but someone needs to go door to door down there and educate some more people on what being a major league city is like. hell, we have the royals who suck, but they are popular here. dont even get me started on the chiefs, or KU basketball. maybe some pro-venue protests in visible places this week leading up to the vote will help or something. why is it that the only people making noise are the ones who oppose the project???
