He was good but i got tired of watching Jameer penetrate to the rim, only to dribble back out again. Yes because the Magic were one of the first good volume 3 point shooting teams this worked for a bit. A kick out to JJ,Jason,Rashard etc and a 3 helped to keep our momentum going. His 3 point percentage was decent during our contending years with decent volume.

But he was small and slow and could not finish at the rim at all which made me bewildered sometimes. At the time i thought he was holding us back. However he was smart with the ball could shoot the 3 and had some decent assist numbers, nothing special for his prime years with how many minutes he played.

Basically he was a slightly better Tyus Jones who you all said wouldn't really have changed anything for us. Maybe your right because Jameer was best when he was kicking out or passing to guys who could hit the three ball. Our guys now can't do that.

You  talk about Jameer alot and his shortcomings. What I posted was not about Jameer. My point was about my not having seen a Magic team whose style of play has been 2 v 5 until now.

I sifted through various seasons to find the makeup of Magic teams in the past that did not use 2 v 5 style of play. Perhaps I should have posted only the link for the 2010-2011 season (leaving out the names of the players on the roster) and let anyone interested be the judge.

I literally saw four or five of the Houston players in the paint when Franz or Paulo got the ball in that situation.  The change in our energy level and offensive execution was really notable.

Of all my years of watching Magic basketball, I don't remember seeing that before.

I googled the 2010-2011 roster to refresh my memory. During that season, Stan Van Gundy was the coach. I don't remember 2 v 5 being played by the Magic. We had a good floor general in Jameer Nelson who could also score and we had other players who could spread the floor by making 3pt shots. See key players from that season below:

Dwight Howard, Marcin Gortat - center and rim protectors

Jameer Nelson, Jason Williams - point guards

Rashard Lewis, Ryan Anderson,  power forwards

Hedo Turkoglu, Quentin Richardson, Michael Pietrus - small forwards

JJ Redick, Jason Richardson - shooting guards

I saw that too. It was so frustrating to watch. I didn't understand if that was the coaches' game plan or the team going away from what they were instructed to do.

I believe that some of the close games the Magic lost were winnable.

Sometimes I think of how all it takes is an AAU style 2-3 zone to make it impossible for us to score, and it makes me sad.

I saw that, and I made a comment, after a game we lost, how there are teams that are playing zone against the Magic and are successful at it. They use it because they know that they can keep Franz and Paolo out of the paint or from bullldozering their way to the rim to score. The strategy is also to force the Magic to attempt to score further away (3 pt. shots) from the basket.

Was that before or after his huge dunk over Paolo? Because he looked very spry on that one.

I don't remember if it was before or after the dunk. I only remember it was in the 4th quarter that I saw him on the bicycle.

Edit: Mitchell was probably strengthening the legs for a power dunk...hehehe!

Great win and KCP actually contributed and made a 3 at the end that counted. About f ing time. I guess he needed that day off.

Oh, dam Mitchell couldn’t throw it in the ocean from the beach the last five minutes, that was nice to see.

I saw Mitchell on a bicycle during the fourth quarter. So whatever the injury, he probably couldn't get the lift to make a shot.  :)

We were actually playing pretty well until we shifted to the second unit bench players. . EARLY 1st quarter.

Not the point I was trying to make at all.  We were tied with just a few minutes left in the half.  Cleveland upped their level of play and we reverted into our shell and started playing 2v 5 offense which helped fuel their run at the end of the half.

I hear what you're saying. But what I don't understand is, a few games ago, we gave Corey Joseph props on how well he was playing the point guard position--pushing the ball, distributing the ball, and making shots. These past 2 games he has turned into AB 2.0, handing the ball to Franz then running and standing in the corner.

I've been mostly quiet this year, dont want to add to the obvious   but i have been watching every game and monitoring here

that stat at the end of the first says it all Franz only 5 pts.,  11 turn overs, and 3 Shot clock violations

I was wondering where you were. Glad to here from you and I hope you are okay. g7F7We.png

AB isn’t a PG at all. I’m honestly not sure what position he is. And he’s so raw. We’re ready to compete now and he and Jett simply are not. If a rebuilding team wants to give us a vet for one of them I’m tempted to do it. Colin Sexton, Coby White or Anfernee Simons are the dead horses I’ll continue to beat for that.

I think most of us agree with this and the above assessments.

Look at what the Warriors and other teams have done to make their team better. For example the Warriors added the veteran, Jimmy Butler, and it has helped to dig themselves out of a nightmare of a hole they were in.

Edit: I have heard of Sexton and Simmons, and don't remember watching them play, but boy, I would love to have Coby White on our team as the starting point guard. Man, can he drain those 3 pt shots with no hesitation.

Joseph just seems to play the basic role of setting the table, hitting open shots, and giving us serviceable defense. I'd play him in the starting lineup the rest of the year, too. As for AB, I like him but I'm not even sure he's a PG. And honestly, I'd rather not see Cole again on the court. Lol

    Exactly! Thank you!!!!

By the way: When the Magic's second unit entered the game last night, that's when the Pelicans' backups went on a run and cut into our 30 pt. lead 10 pts+.

Agreeing with all the sentiments of if this is how we play when Cory Joseph runs point guard, imagine bringing in some one who isn’t a journeyman. All we need is someone to continue pushing the pace and that can hit open shots, he’s doing both well, and he should probably keep starting over Cole and AB for the rest of the season. We just can’t let teams get set in their half court defense or else we’re done for.

Also, Paolo and Franz are very very good. Paolo 3rd in the nba in ppg since the all-star break on good efficiency and shooting percentages. If he can hit free throws consistently at 75% he’s gonna be a 30 ppg scorer with his eyes closed

Exactly! We need someone to continue pushing the pace as Corey Jacobs has been doing.

Both JJZL and I have mentioned how, in previous games, after the ball had been inbounded on the opposite end of the court, both Cole and AB had a habit of putting the ball on the floor and letting it roll on the floor until after they stepped over the half court line  Then they pick the ball up and dribble a few seconds before handing it off to a teammate. That's poor management because it gives the opposing team time to set up on defense. Especially those teams that play zone defense.

If AB is the point guard, the other team knows he is going to immediately hand the ball off to Franz and then he runs and stands in the corner. Franz becomes the point forward. In Cole's case, he is going to keep the ball himself and dribble, dribble, dribble to try to get into the paint for a layup. No ball movement to find the open man.

  12. You guys,,,*sigh* (pause). You reluctantly give Corey Joseph a tiny bit of credit for an above average performance in last night's game. I say 'reluctantly'  because 1) you think he is too old, and 2) because he was only brought to the Magic to fill in the roster, 3) you feel he should only see the floor during garbage time in a game.

It was during the 1st quarter that the Magic had a 30 pt. lead, and it wasn't only attributed to the play of Franz and Paolo, but it was also due to Corey Joseph's effectively handling the ball as the floor general. In a previous game that we won he performed well also as the starter.

Well, let me ask you this: How has Cole and AB been working out for you, especially during the losing streak the Magic had been on? And how about other players like Jett Howard whom some of you have wanted to be given a chance to start or just be in the rotation. Well, how have those worked out for you? Jett has not performed up to expectations, and he has been given a chance to show what he's got.

I hope Mosley gives Corey a chance again to be starting point guard until a poor performance by Corey proves it is a mistake to start him.

Edit: As the saying goes: "If ain't broke, don't fix it."

AB really isn’t doing much on the offensive end tonight. He dribbles the ball slowly up the court, hangs around for a few seconds, then just dumps it off.  He is just not the kind of quick guard who darts in and out of the opponent defense that we need.

I agree. I hate it when he does that. Cole is guilty of doing the same thing at times. Looks like they are trying to be cute.

You can't play against teams like that,

Cole seemed really engaged on the defensive end tonight and I think that positively impacted the entire team. That block on Giannis was, for lack of a better word, MAGIC!

Yes, I agree. Cole was really locked in last night. Blocking Giannis and being much shorter than him, he showed his athleticism and the meaning of the phrase "to sky".

Actually, that is the second time (not this  game), I have seen Cole jump high to block the shot of a much taller opponent.

    Keep it up young man!

This is the time of the game when I start to worry.  If it becomes two v five and all we see is Franz and Paulo on offense , we stand a good chance of losing.  They MUST keep sharing the ball

You called it JJZFL, and they delivered in the latter minutes of the 4th quarter doing just what you suggested.
