Official Game Thread: Magic Vs Hawks Feb. 13, 7:00 P.M. [EST]

HAWKS STARTERS (Subject To Change) .... PG Harris - PF Tolliver - PG Teague - SF Smith - C Horford HAWKS BENCH__________________INJURIES John Jenkins______________________*No Injuries Reported* DeShawn Stevenson__________________________Mike Scott Kyle Korver______________________________Jannero Pargo Zaza Pachulia___________________________Anthony Morrow HAWKS-MAGIC PREVIEW The Associated Press - February 12, 2013 The Hawks have won six straight against the Magic, a streak which began with the decisive Game 6 of the teams' opening-round playoff series in 2011. Atlanta has won the last eight regular-season meetings, holding Orlando to 79.4 points per game on 38.7 percent shooting. This time, the Hawks will face a Magic team coming off the end of a 12-game skid, its longest in nine seasons. Orlando allowed a 13-point lead in the third quarter get cut to four early in the fourth Sunday but hung on for a 110-104 home victory over Portland. "When teams made runs over the last X-amount of games, we kind of shut down a little bit," said Jameer Nelson, who had a career-high 15 assists and 10 points. "Tonight we didn't, we were up and they cut it to three or four. We just kept playing our game." J.J. Redick led the way with 22 points in his return from a sore right shoulder. Nikola Vucevic had 17 points and 19 rebounds -- his second-highest total over two NBA seasons -- for his Eastern Conference-best 29th double-double. It was Orlando's third victory in 26 games since its last winning streak, a season-best four-game run Dec. 14-19. "You always want to see the fruits of your labor and in this business it's wins and losses and it's just good for the guys' psyche overall," coach Jacque Vaughn said. "But we've stayed firm in our approach and guys have been unbelievable throughout this process. "I think they see their hard work and the lessons that they're learning along the way, they'll add up for us." Link: http://sports.yahoo.com/news/hawks-magic-preview-185325745--nba.html

  3. MAGIC-CAVALIERS PREVIEW Although the Cleveland Cavaliers haven't defeated the Orlando Magic in almost three years, they would appear to have an ideal opportunity to do so Friday night. Having picked up the pace over the last two weeks, the Cavaliers try to snap a 10-game losing streak to a struggling Magic team dealing with more than its fair share of injuries. Though Cleveland (15-34) sits at the bottom of the Central Division, its recent efforts haven't resembled those of a last-place club. The Cavaliers have averaged 105.4 points -- 8.9 more than their season mark -- during a 5-2 run and are coming off notable back-to-back wins. Vucevic now 5th in the league in rebounding

Aint that the truth. . .Oops! Sorry Jareth :) But seriously. . .What has happened to this board?. . .Where is everybody? Don't tell me. . .*sigh*. . .They are over at another forum (and I want say the name for it has already been mentioned.) I had never been there before, so the other day, I decided to check it out. And to my amazement, I recognized a few of the TBN message board members posting on that message board. There was lots of basketball talk over there, and none of the long, drawn out one-on-one slug fests. I prefer the format/layout of the True Blue Nation website, and I come here to read/participate in members' discussions about our team, and thoughts on what or how the team and individual players are doing on the court. It seems that Soul Bro and Barnettej are the only two who are trying to steer us in that direction. Don't get me wrong. I don't mind discussions about trade (I think it's important), but I don't think it should turn into a slug fest between 2 people who are trying to prove a point, and it lasts for several days. It's depressing enough to watch our team go hot and cold.

This is the point I tried to get across but failed. Thanks Brooks for cleaning it up.

    Jameer Nelson - Leadership

Need I say more? And no, I'm not a fan of Ish Smith either. I was hoping that Ish would be traded before the season started. Edit: To my friend Barnettj - If a marine is missing in action, he can' be leading (right?) - Just kidding! ;)

    Jameer Nelson - Leadership

I agree with Brooks Thompson. If I had to pick a veteran team leader, it would be Glen Davis. Jameer is a player on the Magic team who does not show up every game. I believe in the saying, "action speaks louder than words." I didn't say that Glen is consistent (scoring-wise), but he hustles game in and game out. Since Glen's injury, I don't see that kind of hustle from anyone else on the team, except AA. What happened to the up-tempo style of play that the Magic talked about and demonstrated in their first couple of wins at the beginning of the season. On offensive possessions, Jameer has resorted to walking the ball up the court and coming to a halt, after crossing half court, to set up plays. This gives the other team time to set up their defense. And let's not stop there! Even if Jameer is firing on all cylinders (on a given night), he allows opposing point guards to blow right past him. He sometimes has to commit fouls to try to stop them from scoring. On defense, we have no one in the center boxing out or bodying up to prevent the opposing teams' centers from scoring. Even though Glen is undersized, when he was healthy, he gave up his body in the middle and helped to prevent opposing centers from getting easy shots. As the supposed LEADER of the Magic, Jameer turns the ball over too much. Demonstrating to your young teammates the dynamics of playing the game of basketball is more important than being a pretender before the cameras with a lot of lip service. So, no, Jameer is not a leader (in my opinion)

HORNETS STARTERS .... SG Mason - PF Davis - PG Vasquez - SF Thomas - C Lopez HORNETS BENCH__________________INJURIES Al Aminu______________________Eric Gordon Ryan Anderson_________________Jason Smith Austin Rivers____________________________ Brian Roberts____________________________ Hornets-Magic Preview By JEFF BARTL (STATS Writer) | The Associated Press – Tue, Dec 25, 2012 11:54 AM EST YAHOO! Sports Ryan Anderson had the best season of his career for the Orlando Magic in 2011-12, pricing himself out of a new contract with the team in the process. The New Orleans Hornets gave him the dollars he sought, but he isn't enjoying much success at the moment. Anderson will look to help New Orleans avoid matching a franchise-record 12-game losing streak in his return to Orlando on Wednesday night. Anderson was named the NBA's Most Improved Player after averaging career highs of 16.1 points and 7.7 rebounds while hitting a league-high 166 3-pointers for the Magic last season. He was a restricted free agent during the offseason, and New Orleans signed him to a four-year, $36 million offer sheet. Orlando decided not to match and completed a sign-and-trade deal with the Hornets, acquiring big man Gustavo Ayon. Official Game Thread: Magic Vs. Timberwolves

TIMBERWOLVES-MAGIC PREVIEW The Minnesota Timberwolves have spent most of the season trying to stay afloat as they waited on two returns. They'll likely finally have their two centerpieces back together Monday night as they visit the Orlando Magic. Star point guard Ricky Rubio returned Saturday, helping Minnesota (12-9) to a 114-106 overtime victory against Dallas in his first game since tearing two knee ligaments in March. Rubio posted nine assists and eight points while having his minutes capped at 19, but the emotional lift his return provided may have been even bigger for the Timberwolves as they captured their fourth straight win. "Just because his talent and who he is," coach Rick Adelman told the team's official website. "Our guys watched him work and get ready for this game. They know what type of player he is. He just rubs off and we found that out last year when we lost him." All-Star teammate Kevin Love, who missed Minnesota's first nine games with a broken right hand, sat out Saturday because of flu-like symptoms, but is expected to play Monday. Despite their absences, the Timberwolves have managed to stay in playoff position in the Western Conference. The expectations should instantly rise with Rubio and Love back on the court together. Minnesota was in contention for a playoff spot last season before Rubio's injury, then went 5-20 to finish 26-40. The Wolves won Saturday without either player on the floor in overtime after Rubio missed a potential game-winning 3-pointer late in regulation. Andrei Kirilenko scored five points in OT. "I think we're going to do big things with this team this year," said Rubio, who averaged 10.6 points and 8.2 assists in 2011-12. "Just showing how we played in the overtime ... it was amazing." Dante Cunningham started in Love's place but Derrick Williams gave the Wolves the bigger boost at forward. Williams, averaging 8.8 points, scored 16 in 19 minutes, his second-highest point total of the season. "With Kevin out, you've got to be aggressive," Williams said. "That man puts up a lot of numbers, and we've got to be able to match that with myself and Dante Cunningham playing the 4." Neither Love nor Rubio played in the Timberwolves' first meeting with Orlando on Nov. 7, but Luke Ridnour scored a game-high 19 points to help Minnesota snap a seven-game skid in this series with a 90-75 home win. The Magic (10-13) have been trying to forge a new identity after the departure of Dwight Howard, something they're having more success with of late. They finished with a 15-5 run Saturday for a 107-98 win at Charlotte, their third victory in four games. Arron Afflalo and Glen Davis have shouldered much of the scoring load, averaging 16.2 and 15.7 points, respectively. They each scored 20 against the Bobcats. "This is a new team and we're still finding each other," Davis said. "As a team, we're learning and this was a game where we learned from our past experience."

BKN @ ORL 11/9 Game Thread

Thank you Marc! I was sitting here thinking the same thing before I read your post. Last season I honestly did not see or understand why some of the posters wanted Stan to play Ish. (It's not that I wanted Duhon as the backup either) In my opinion, there is/was no difference between the two. It's just like Marc stated. All I remember seeing was this little guy running fast and most of the time when he tried to attack the basket, it was not with positive results. Ish would do a lot of dribbling from side to side (away from the basket near the 3 pt. line) looking for someone to pass the ball to. And just like Duhon, he would dribble the clock down. To be honest, I was hoping that Ish would be cut before the season started. I was so-o-o disappointed when I read that the Magic re-signed him. :sadcrab:

2012 Orlando Magic Regular Season Thread

The thing is, it's going to be worse if he plays because there will be constant boos from the crowd with every move he makes. If he is on the bench the entire game, the boos will eventually die out because the Amway fans will be focused on the exciting action of our young players on the court. Also, if Dwight plays, the boos will be so loud when he goes to the free throw line to the point where he might shoot air balls. . .AND he will be so nervous he might piss in his pants. :D :bigparty:

I predict that Dwight will be in street clothes (find an excuse to not play against the Magic) when the two teams meet.
