Role players do. It's no wonder we haven't even gotten close to winning anything after 1995 with role players like Cook, Battie, and Bogans. If I wanted to be picky I could say neither Jameer, Bogans, or even Lewis are "role players" Jameer is an undersized SG, Bogans is an undersized SF, and Lewis, in SVG's scheme is forced to play out of his natural position.

Thoughts on Peaches, AJ, Lee, JJ and Battie so far

And yes I agree 100% On a second thought, I haven't been able to watch much of the pre-season but if AJ can really play, is more of an assist guy and does NOT take shots away from other people who need to be shooting (Dwight, Lewis, JJ, LEE, etc) I'd rather see him split the minutes or start over Jameer.

We gotta pump up J.J.'s value...Bogans doesn't need to play in the pre-season...he is a proven comodity... Bogans has proved he's probably the most inconsistent player in Van Gundy's rotation. Van GUndy is about the only person in the league who believes Bogans is a defender. He plays D, but Bogans is too slow to stop anyone. JJ is actually quicker, more active, and has better court awareness. The Magic will always be the Magic. Starting from the clueless ownership on down to this clueless coach who has zero eye for talent and an inept "businessman" who plays GM. In the end we'll probably keep nobodies like BOgans, Cook, and Battie, (who are all inconsistent, excite no one, and have little value) while they keep shipping out young guys that have talent and are fan favorites. It's what the Magic have always been about. It's a pity the DeVos family management will never hire the right coaches and Gms to get this team over the top.

    Bogans vs. Redick, part I

Ball Junkie needs a psychiatric evaluation Now for a hypothetical scenario. Imagine when he walks in and JJ is the doctor

There are a lot of potential answers to this. I'll give you two: 1. People who have actually watched Blake and Rodriguez play. Blake is an absolute pauper's Mark Price, and Rodriguez is a solid, if unremarkable, backup guard. Jameer might be bottom half of the league's starting point guards, but he's still a starting caliber point. 2. People who recognize that an inside-outside offense doesn't lend itself to high assist totals for point guards, thereby negating the basic assumption people make where "PGs must have high assist totals to be good." The same holds true for spread offenses and offenses that don't penetrate. Amazingly, we run an offense that oscillates between the 3, so it should shock no one that no player on the team averaged more than 5.5 assists last year. And before you tell me how pathetic that is for Jameer, look up the name "Walt Frazier'. Alright smart guy, give me three teams other then the Warriors and Blazers, that Nelson can start for. Jameer wouldn't even be the 6th man on most teams in the league. Definitely: Heat, Knicks, Nets, Oklahoma Bennetts, Sacramento Probably: Timberwolves, Celtics, Bucks Possibly: Bobcats(depending how much you think of Felton), Hawks, Lakers You excluded them for whatever reason, but GS and Portland would fall in definitely. Just the fact some of you are desperately trying to find a team where Jameer would start at PG says it all

    Van Gundy Challenges PG Nelson

And you think this would really work? Jameer can only do so much, he's not a starting caliber PG in this league, he's a miniature SG at best and does what he can, which is shoot. Instead of yelling and annoying his players he should watch Jackson and Popovich coach. How come we don't see these respected coaches pointing fingers at individuals on the team? When you are good, players show you respect and play hard, you don't need to tell your players "you need to play hard" or need to go to the media with unnecessary drama. You get funnier everytime I read one of your posts. Pop doesn't yell at his players?? Really, is that why we've seen a number of players get rubbed the wrong way by him. You don't think the guy is hard on his players? Do you even know who the man learned under? I nearly cracked a rib laughing at this one- You mention Phil Jackson then say this in the same post-"How come we don't see these respected coaches pointing fingers at individuals on the team?" LMAO! Do you own a TV? Read a newspaper? Watch basketball? You want so badly to say something negative about Stan that you constantly make yourself look foolish. You are a joke. Coaches yell at the players of course, but because of mistakes, not because of "lack of performance" or "motivation". That usually stays on the court or the locker room. Stan, to compensate for his lack of coaching skills and player respect for him, takes it to the media in a desperate, immature fashion. It's the preseason stupid! It's funny to watch Acres result to personal insults everytime he replies to a post I make haha, and this guy is a mod? Don't let my oppinion rattle you so easily. Put your panties back on. PS: bhnole that's BS, Grant left Orlando for more than one reason, mostly because he was tired of Jordan who was arrogant. Grant is a genuinely nice guy. Sorry but what a desperate excuse that is. We all know every player in the league would love the chance to be coached by Phil. Ask the same about Van Gundy, haha! listen to Zo's and Shaq's own comments. Phil is mostly why Kobe is still in LA, and not somewhere else, and why that team has overachieved the last few seasons.

Ah that sucks no TV I'll miss the only chance to see SVG let Redick and Gortat play in the pre-season only, sadly

If Lee plays the "2"...J.J. is 3rd string again

quote: Originally posted by TheRevTy: Because hating a coach is that much better. You bet ya. I hate Gundy for having Garrity and Bogans ahead of Ariza and Redick. For putting Foyle (and now probably Battie also) over Gortat. Hate him for failing to develop talent and reward hard work and snub players who played hard like Augustine. Most of all, can't stand him for having no strategy other than to yell and yell. When it's obvious Jameer canoot guard his own shadow and Rashard cannot guard big men and should be on the bench when his shot isn't falling. How in the world he got in the 20th anniversary cards I don't know. What a crock, but again they included "the hat lady"

Redick ahead of Courtney Lee and Bogans on Depth Chart?

quote: Originally posted by echo4papa:and I can't see him getting playing time if he doesn't deserve it, under SVG at any rate. that's a joke right If Redick get some consistent minutes, especially at the end of games the Magic are going to win a bunch of close games. With "Stan the Man" coaching I suspect the Magic will find themselves in a whole bunch of close games again. Maybe Stan learned how to use shooters from watching this year's playoffs, since he has no strategy whatsoever, might as well do the obvious and let Redick shoot it at the end of games regularly.

Only a real mediocre franchise would mention something like "the hat lady" on a 20 year anniversary face of the franchise event. I'm surprised Mickey Mouse wasn't honored

quote: originally posted by BallJunkie:See, it's comments like these that ruin this board. First I think it's the 5-year old immature rants like yours which make the forum seem like a joke. I thought his comment was hilarious and a rare witty moment for Osprey23, which in itself warranted it to be displayed for amusement. And thanks to your inmature crying it was deleted. It's time to grow up and maybe get a sense of humor. Never seen anyone hate a player who's part of the team like this, not even close. I've never heard anything more pathetic in my life. It's fairly obvious Redick has not only a lot more fans than Bogans and CLee, but he's a hard working player who can contribute and even excel under a coach who will give him a fair chance. Also fairly obvious "stan the man" probably learned a thing or two from how REAL coaches used their shooters in the playoffs. If Stan keeps this shockingly logical coaching into the regular season I might overlook his lack of intelligence and become a fan! Maybe I just like rooting for the underdog, but I enjoy seeing Redick play, he's fun to watch. Way to go JJ, it doesn't matter what he does, he'll still be hated by a small but vocal minority.

    Steve Kyler (hoopsworld) Trading Bogans?

" Yes, it's obvious the Magic have some players they are not going to use in the regular season, but when you factor in injuries, and the pace at which the Magic play, giving away depth, and more importantly depth that knows and understands your system is bad basketball " Of course it's bad basketball. But that's not something Gundy has figured out yet. Bogans was his starter last year, for crying out loud. A guy that would be a third stringer in every other NBA team. He'll continue to sit Gortat and give his minutes to injury-prone dinosours like Battie and Foyle. Just because a person has been put in the position of running things doesn't mean his ideas make any sense. Van Dumby is as good at coaching as Hugo Chavez is at running his country down in Venezuela.
