  1. I think the problem is we are close to being a good team and close to being a bad team, which is why we're frustrated with the lack of movement at the deadline.

However, I also believe there isn't really a move we could make that would push us into the "good team" category without losing a key piece and having us fall back to a bad team. I think the best move that we can make is to offload Fournier/DJ for some offensive weapons. I still believe building around AG/Issac/Fultz is the way to go.

    I wouldn’t mind a decent reset. Here’s an idea:

    Ross and Vooch

    for

    Bridges, Johnson and Ayton

After watching him last night, I think Ayton could do well with Fultz.

    Couldn’t say yes fast enough.

We get Ayton (even if we have to throw in Bamba) and Bridges without losing JI or Gordon or Fultz? I wouldn’t even blink. Could still package Fournier/DJ/Melvin for a SG too

Chuma and MPJ are not even remotely analogous injury-wise.  Your last couple of posts seem to indicate you have a needlessly pessimistic understanding of our draft history.

    Yeah let’s look at this:

    1) Otis (5/05–5/12)

    2) Hennigan (6/12–4/17)

    3) Weltman/Hammond (5/17–present)

I think going through those years proves some know how to navigate this process in a proactive way and others are a reactive. I think we have guys who have a plan and are making moves according to their plan rather than just going with wherever the wind blows. I trust them. We just need to stay patient.

No way Boston trades Brown now.

I think it all depends on how badly they want a starting center. I think they'd be willing to get rid of Brown to give the reigns to Kemba/Tatum more, if they had Vuc as a 3rd option.

I also think they'd be willing to get rid of Hayward because of the struggle with healthy + the bad contract. Again, pipe-dream, but I know they wanted Vuc last season really bad. So maybe they would consider it if we tossed in a pick or two.

  5. Here is my pipe-dream.

We have a decent starting lineup, but unless Isaac/Gordon/Fultz make the jump to the next level, we are destined to remain in the 6-10 seed range.

I think Fournier is having a good year but it's a contract year, after that I think he'll slump again. I say we trade him while he's valuable. I think someone is going to overpay for DJ this off-season, so I think we need to couple him in a trade somewhere too.

However, the issue is we need scoring desperately, both in the starting lineup and off the bench.

    PG - Fultz, Augustin, MCW

    SG - Fournier, Ross, Frazier

    SF - Isaac, Iwundu

    PF - Gordon, Aminu, Jefferson

    C - Vucevic, Bamba, Birch

I'm not sure who we aim for this offseason or in trades. I think DeRozen is an exciting name but he is ball dominant so that might hurt Fultz development. What if we aim for filling out our bench with scoring?

Trade Vuc-DJ-Iwundu-1st to Boston for Brown-Hayward? Fournier-Aminu to Dallas for Hardaway-FinneySmith-2nd? Sign VanVleet and Markieff Morris in the offseason? Get Okeke back for his rookie year.

    PG - Fultz, VanVleet, MCW

    SG - Brown, Ross, Hardaway

SF - Isaac, Hayward, Finney-Smith, Okeke

    PF - Gordon, Morris

    C - Bamba, Birch

Scoring depth. Young developing core. Potential stars in Fultz, Brown, and Isaac. Hayward (similar to Fultz) gets a low-pressure situation to heal and get back to form.

Let's also not forget this little nugget.

"I want people to talk about me, good or bad, because if they're not, you're not doing something right. I'd rather be talked about bad in L.A. than play in Orlando and not get talked about, so."

I want nothing to do with Kuzma. I'd rather hold onto all of our pieces and risk losing for nothing than to send help to L.A. and get back a player with this type of attitude.

  7. Also, occured to me that the Knicks are drowning in SF type players. Do we think Knox could play SG at all? His defense would be the issue. I think he's stuffed behind a jacked up franchise that signed 4 other players in the same role as their top 10 pick they just got. Knox is available for cheap if you ask me.

And apparently someone thinks DeRozen to the Magic might be an idea the FO would be interested in

So we get booker + porter jr.

Suns get Fournier + Garland + Frazier in a "fournier can score, garland can be the pg for our future"

Cleveland gets Augustin + Bridges in a move that allows Sexton to play naturally without another PG type in the rotation.

-- I know it isn't legit. I'm just having late night fun, trying to think of a way to move fournier that would push us up into top 4 territory in the East. I still think building around Fultz, Isaac, Gordon, Vooch with Ross/Bamba off the bench is the way to go. Vooch is playing too well right now to move him. Unless you can package Vooch/Fournier for a really good SG and commit to Bamba/Birch big man duo.

I don’t see a world where MCW takes DJ’s backup minutes in a hypothetical where Fultz starts.

I can agree with that. That was honestly the position I was torn with the most (which is weird considering how badly we wanted a PG last off-season). I just think MCW is playing great right now because he knows this is probably one of his last attempts to be a contributor in the league without having to go overseas or anything. So I think he is playing motivated. We got flashes of his rookie of the year play last season, I'd love to see that continue. If that happens and Fultz plays to what he is capable of doing...I could see DJ losing minutes or packaged with Fournier in a trade of some sort.

DJ isn’t on the team anymore?

I think an optimistic outlook is the 5th seed.  I also think that having Augustin completely out of the guard rotation is ludicrous considering the fine season he just had, not to mention how MCW is a situational player exclusively.

No I wasn't leaving him off the team...but I think if people remain healthy (again, I understand it's a big IF but I'm talking about having a season where people actually reach their potential)...I think Fultz/MCW go 1-2 in the guard spot. But realistically, we all probably need to temper hopes with Fultz till we see some actual game play. So it will still probably be DJ/MCW.

  11. Okay...so let's play the "try not to get your hopes up...while also kinda getting your hopes up" game

IF everyone is healthy (or near 100%) what is the best starting 5 that we can imagine for this season? Maybe go 3-4 deep on the bench to imagine a playoff scenario too.

    I would say:

    Fultz, Fournier, Isaac, Gordon, Vuc

    MCW, Ross, Aminu, Bamba

    That's still leaving off Iwundu/Augustin/Birch

Do we feel like this team can be a 3-4 seed in the East?

  12. Has anyone seen the newest ESPN Power Rankings? We come in at 14...here is what they say

The Magic secured an East playoff spot for the first time since 2012 behind nine wins in their past 11 games. It's a huge milestone for a young squad in what was theoretically a rebuilding season. -- Snellings

That's literally all they wrote. EVERY OTHER TEAM got like 3-4 sentences diving into their team. We get 2 sentences. If I'm the team, I'm disrespected by that.

That was my prediction during All-Star Weekend. I know that's not the same as preseason since half the season is over, but yeah. I was curious how the bottoms would shake out on each side. Thought the Clips would fall off after they traded Tobias.
